Magic Clover Dark REAPER Theme

*** Compatible with Theme Adjuster ***

Find the customization controls at "Options - Themes - Theme Adjuster / Color Controls - Theme Controls" tab.

*** REAPER ver 7.17+ recommended for this theme to work as intended ***

100% size only (made using a Full HD 27'' screen, Windows 10).

Known bug: If theme adjuster window is too large, things may look out of place. Reduce the window width until everything is in one or two columns and it should be fine.

Info:

Magic Clover aims to be compact, simple, flat, versatile and functional. It has many layouts: different mixer sizes, colored volume faders, separators, auto-folders, and more. It is inspired by "VGS" (great ableton live style theme from Lamda).

Contrast and colors look well balanced on my screen, but they may look wrong on yours. This can be fixed using the Theme Adjuster's global color controls tab (midtones, shadows, saturation etc).

If TCP FX list is not showing up, turn it on at "Options - Show FX inserts in TCP (when size permits)"

If TCP sends list is not showing up, turn it on at "Options - Show sends in TCP (when size permits)"

Feel free to leave any message or request in the comments!

========= 10/23/2024 =========

-> changed behavior when using the options: "Show sends in TCP (when size permits)" & "Show FX inserts in TCP (when size permits)".

-> themes now respond directly to the REAPER option: "Show sends in TCP (when size permits)" and no longer need theme adjuster to show/hide sends.

-> Changed theme adjuster option from "DEDICATED SENDS LIST (when size permits)" to "GROUP SENDS WITH FX (when both are visible)"

-> Theme adjuster now supports 2 columns view when window is wider and it's been reorganized for easier visualization

-> new custom images for the fixed lanes controls in TCP

-> Mixer Master layout is now set by theme adjuster

-> fixed bug in vca long fader layout

-> fixed fx list misalignments in meter first layout

========= 08/23/2024 =========

-> fixed missalignment in MCP sidebar and FX Rack layouts

-> fixed bug when using sidebar with the "small" MCP layout

========= 08/20/2024 =========

-> theme adjuster script from reaper 6 is no longer in use. Theme now uses the new Reaper 7 adjuster script. Reaper 7.17 or newer is required.

-> added a custom buttom "-" in TCP when fixed lanes are in use, it removes the bottom lane

-> debuged theme using new reaper 7 theme debugger command (may help with theme performance)

-> removed separator 1 layout (because it does exactly what visual spacers do) and kept separator 2 layout only (can be colored, double clicked to edit name, have folder controls)

========= 02/09/2024 =========

-> adapted themes to REAPER 7 stuff (fixed lanes, GR meter, etc.)

-> added a custom buttom (Reaper 7 only) "=" in TCP for selected tracks. It toggles fixed lanes on/off

========= 11/20/2022 =========

-> VCA layouts with big horizontal volume faders for TCP are back as an option

-> changed some parameter descriptions in theme adjuster to better describe what they do

-> "Custom color labels" (option 7 in theme adjuster) now better matches text color with track/item colors

-> when "Custom color labels" is off and a track is record armed, the input label text will turn red

-> added very subtle outline border to transport bar. And also added a new transport layout: "Borderless"

-> changed toolbar button text to better match other toolbar icons

-> fixed a bug where meter dB scales would disapear when using track icons

-> fixed envelope tracks not changing their margin when using track icons

-> it was time to make a big clean up, and theme now has a smaller file size (and probably loads faster)

========= 09/04/2022 =========

-> added new TCP position option in theme adjuster: option 2-TCP FX list "4:Reverse"

-> added an option in Theme Adjuster to color labels based on track color: "7-TCP/MCP Custom color labels 0:off 1:On"

-> changed behavior of Sidebar modes for MCP in Theme Adjuster: there is no longer a sidebar size option dedicated to the master track, so the option 9 now affects both Master and normal tracks and opt 10 defines where sidebar will be applied

-> changed behavior of option number 6 in Theme Adjuster from "TCP Folders 1:Resize names 2:Align all controls" to "TCP Labels:left/center & Folders:resize/align all". This means it's possible to choose between centered or left aligned text for track names, and choose between resize track names or align all controls vertically when using folders

-> Media Explorer's marker/ruler is brighter (to better read embed info in media items when previewing)

-> item background outlines are softer

-> new folder indent image (lines that indicate folder depth, and adapt their color to the track color background by being a little transparent)

-> new track label backgrounds for MCP (to better match TCP labels)

    Thanks!!!

    Hey man, I'm doing well thanks very much! I just released a new theme called Neo that has this kind of metering layout, maybe you will like it! here is the link: https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/2929/Neo_Reaper_Theme

    I'll consider adding the meter layout to magic clover as well when I have time

  2. tonal_states // February 01, 2023

    Hi Estevan, your #1 fan here checking in hahaha hope you're doing well. I was wondering if you would ever consider adding this kind of track layout to your theme 0w0

    https://imgur.com/nLHYkqD

    I've found it really useful to see the big meters on tracks for a general bus view. Thanks!

    great, thanks for letting me know!

  5. tonal_states // September 08, 2022

    Hey, just so you know and not worry about it (if even) the Untinted problem I had before was from the screensets/layout window, I don't know how but yeah, fixed now.

  6. tonal_states // September 08, 2022

    Thank you for your quick response! Yeah, you probably should make a thread for it, totally deserved and could be a better way of contacting and sharing your work.

    Ahhh ok, I'll try to see what could be causing this on my side then.

    Also on the VCA, yeah, I kinda liked it before since it was unique and easier to spot and use as a big fader, so yeah, I'd gladly receive it's comeback hahah thanks again man.

  7. EJ_Music // September 08, 2022

    tonal_states, I totally agree with you about the notification problem. I probably should create a forum post for this theme at some point. Anyways, thanks a lot for your support!

    About the global layout thing, I also use the untinted global layout most of the time, and it stays like that when I do. It does not reset when restarting reaper. I'm guessing there is something weird happening on your end.

    And yes, I changed the vca layout for TCP, but kinda regretted doing that. Like they say: "don't try to fix what is not broken" lol. I'm thinking about putting them back in the next update.

  8. tonal_states // September 07, 2022

    Question! I noticed that the global layout changes every time I close and re-open reaper. I'm actually sticking with the untinted layout but changes back to the colored ones.. is this a reaper thing or a theme thing? I don't know how to save it, I used to just select untinted in global layout and it would stay there mmm

    Also, was the VCA layout changed in TCP? Just wondering. Before, it was a long fader on the whole track, almost like in the mixer, now it's the default TCP track small volume slider.

    Thanks!

  9. tonal_states // September 07, 2022

    I hate how I don't receive any notifications on things I comment on haha I always forget to check responses.. I'm just seeing the updates you did and man... It's perfect, love how you handled the folder indents, love the new collapse icon and the options for colored and centered labels, you're awesome man. Beaaaautiful work, really. Again, best theme out there imo and it feels perfect. Thank you.

  10. EJ_Music // August 03, 2022

    Hey tonal_states, don't worry man I actually appreciate you taking the time to give such detailed feedback! Unfortunately I tried leaving the new implementations as options, but the problem is: we can have a maximum of 10 parameters in the WALTER's Theme Adjuster. I wish we could have more so it'd be possible to leave all those things you said as options. But I'll try to include at least white text for track labels and centered track names as theme adjuster options for the next update.

    And the idea of colored folder indents is hard to do indeed. It'd require a lot of time and almost a complete TCP remake (by using tcp_idxbg.png as track background instead of the regular tcp_bg.png file), and it'd also break some things I've already done. So I'll leave them like that for now because I think it provides cleaner visual separation for folder hierarchy than the bright lines did (especially when deeper folders are needed). Nevertheless, I'll keep your opinion in mind and may change the folder indentation again in the near future.

    Thanks for recommending this theme, I'm happy to know you like it that much!!

  11. tonal_states // August 02, 2022

    I just saw the update you did on this, awesome man

    In my honest opinion, and of course you're more than free to just ignore me on these haha I think it might be good to have some of the new implementations as an option if even possible.

    My cases:

    The colored text doesn't look so good and is less visible with MY color palette and low res screen that makes all text a bit fuzzier, now with a dark colored track, basically unreadable sometimes, and I use a lot of dark tracks.

    The centered text looked to me more in the theme of the whole design you've got going on, I like it more that way because the extra space on both sides separates the text from all the other track elements so I feel it's easier to look straight to it, like a label, which are usually centered.

    And, lastly (very subjective also; very ignorable too) are the new folder indents.. I'm really not sure about the gradient since the whole theme is going for a flatter aesthetic, the only other gradient I see is the meters and I think it's perfect that way, I actually liked the brighter indents you added last update, it looks sleek. I asked for them to have color but yeah, that seemed hard. The workaround was nice though.

    My angle here is that I'm looking at this with a retro videogame metroid/megaman-ish kind of design language so of course it's probably not your vision and I don't want to undermine the awesome work you're doing. Because I think it's good, just for me it's not working but I'd love to keep using and updating this theme, I really think it's the best out there and I tell everyone to try it haha

    So yeah, that's why I'm asking for maybe theme adjuster parameters for any one of those if even possible, looking at it that way ofc.

    It's your theme and I'm just picky af apparently hahaha sorry, please don't read this as a criticism because it's not.

  12. EJ_Music // July 28, 2022

    Hey pcp, that's awesome thanks for your comment!!

    I never got the chance to test it at 150% or 200%, but it's good to know it works well on 4k.

    Please go ahead and share your mod of it, I certainly don't have any objections if you put the credits

  13. pcp // July 27, 2022

    Really amazing theme, best of the lot imo. Works well on 4k (at 150% and 200%) despite being a 1080p theme.

    I've actually butchered a heavy mod of this to my tastes, which I was thinking of sharing here, if you don't have any objection? Obv would credit this theme and your donate link.

    RobFlores0091

    Actually, this is not an issue because I purposely changed the track colors in this last update to be like that. But I kept the full colored tracks as a layout option.

    If you want all your tracks to be colored, I suggest you do this: Click on "View" and open the "Screensets/Layouts" window. Go to the "Layouts" tab, double-click "Track Panel", and choose the layout named "Tinted". Do the same for the "Mixer Panel". This way you'll have all your tracks colored like they were before the last update.

    Hope that helps and I'm glad you like the theme!

  15. RobFlores0091 // March 31, 2022

    Love this theme. Having an issue on my main PC right now tho. The tracks don't change color, only the little tab for them does. I don't have this issue on my laptop. I wonder what it could be.

  16. EJ_Music // March 30, 2022

    You're welcome man! And you are right, it's indeed kinda hard to spot the children/parent tracks in the untinted layouts.

    But your idea is great! I just think Reaper won't allow me to do that. I'll have to "hack" it somehow to accomplish that. While I think about a way to do it, I'll just update the theme with brighter indent bars so we can at least easily spot those children tracks. Thanks for your valuable feedback!

  17. tonal_states // March 30, 2022

    hahahah that was literally my reaction but nah man, thank you! I also like the new untinted tracks, it gives the theme a more serious minimalist kinda thing, nice! It was so nice it gave me an idea which I don't know how willing you are of making it.

    The new untinted tracks are great but I feel I need a bit more separation between parents and children tracks in folders, since now there's more of the default dark color now, maybe it's just getting used to it (also thank you for keeping the tinted ones as options) sooo I was wondering if it's possible to tint the small gray bars that appear when you make a folder on the left to the track color? That would be so nice, even as another option, idk. It's really up to you but I feel that would look great *wink wink* if not, no prob, it's a great theme.The need comes from handling a loot of folders for film sf btw. Either way, Thanks!

    Here's a mock up I did of it:

    Loved all of it, thank you for this great theme. It's sleek, cool looking, kind of a videogame aesthetic-ish (to me atleast) easy on the eyes, straightforward. My favorite so far.

  20. EJ_Music // October 18, 2021

    Hi Eduaro,

    Thank you for your inspiring comment

  21. Eduaro // October 10, 2021

    This is a great theme - thanks so much for sharing your work.

    The colouring is powerful, but without being loud and flashy. It is far more powerful because it is not loud and flashy. This in turns creates an environment that feels very calming yet powerful to work in.

    Okay - enough prattle.
