about

St. Divine ventures into jangle pop territory with a driving beat, cascading guitar riffs and a subtle nod to 60’s era pop with their latest release, Mirror. Mirror explores complex lyrical themes underscored by augmented chord changes while pondering the difficulty of letting go of the past. Using a car crash and the aftermath as an extended lyrical metaphor, Mirror invites the listener to face the difficulty of moving on after a tragedy coupled with the importance of looking ahead. The dark themes are contrasted with an upbeat tempo and a bouncy mix of major and minor chords, creating an atmosphere that is both sunny and strange. Purposefully unresolved, Mirror does not fit into a tidy little genre box. Instead, St. Divine is here to remind you that if you are only looking in the rearview, chances are you are going to crash again.

lyrics

Gonna start the car
But you don’t get far
Then you’re down on your knees
And you’re looking for your keys
The headlights flash
So you brace for the crash
On an open road
And it cuts to the bone

What you said to me
Now you’re dead to me
What you kept from me
What you meant to me

When the mirror cracks it sucks
Seven years of rotten luck
I know you think you’re tough
But babe, you’re looking rough
You can’t go forward and you can’t go back
You’re just stuck in the mirror
Not the future or the past

Time is taunting me
You keep haunting me
Are you still wanting me?
Or are we lost at sea (or) what do you want from me?

I don’t want her any nearer (ahh)
Try to listen, I can’t hear her
I don’t love her but I fear her

Winter comes and your days are done
So you lay on your belly and you pray that the spring comes
There on my hand is a tiny little line
It will be there still ‘til the end of time
Time is taunting me
You keep haunting me
Are you still wanting me?
What do you want from me?
