The worst Borderlands game ever made.

Borderlands The Pre Sequel is a lot like the uncle you keep hearing about. You know the one. He cut off your family and lives a healthy, active and unique lifestyle, which your family keeps describing as boring or "the worst one in the family".

The truth is that this is most likely overall, the most well rounded game in the series and it could have been even better than 2 if the studio was given time to finish all the DLC and content. The content that we did receive is, undoubtedly in my opinion the single best DLC in Borderlands history, the best story in the series and absolutely the best vault hunter lineup in the series and the rest dont even come close.

This is really the only borderlands game ive played where I havent felt like one or two of the characters are bad. Yes, there is Wilhelm, but he isnt bad. The lineup is just so busted this time that hes the most normal out of all of them, and thats very usual for the introductory soldier class in all of the games. All of the characters are extremely fun to use and viable in the end game. And theyre all incredibly distinct and unique.

The game introduces new mechanics that were quite overlooked or viewed negatively on release but now I think are viewed normally. New melee mechanics such as the slam, new weapons class such as the laser, the grinder which allows you to combine weapons and receive higher rarity weapons including legendaries, and the Zero G environment, which adds very fun and speedy movement using the oxygen kits that you find. And all of these are very fun features and they really felt fun after BL2.

The DLC is the best in the series, alongside the story. The story is never anything to boast about in any of the borderlands games, but this time...magically, everything is fine. Funny jokes, funny characters with humor that isnt always screaming in your face, and the most character development in the series - all of your vault hunters have unique dialogue associated with them, and they are referred to with their names and not "VH" or "Killer". Overall, I felt quite happy with all the characters and was intrigued by them. The DLC is funny, fun to play, and very unique with the best boss fight in the series in my opinion. This is the only time that Claptrap is given semi serious character development and backstory, which i appreciate.

Theres also some unique mechanics that dont add much, like oxygen and atmosphere. You can only light enemies on fire if they are in atmosphere, which you can trigger by activating an oxygen generator or going inside the building. Theres also the new Cryo element which is fun to use.

Overall, I think this is a great game. The only qualm is its rather short, has only one raid boss, and the baseline bosses just arent that memorable apart from one or two. The game was unfortunately cut down before it could reach its prime, but it could have been the best. I love you pre sequel. im sorry others didnt.

Men are born for games. Every child knows that play is nobler than work. And Borderlands The Pre-Sequel is a game that should be played, despite what some might say.

The misunderstood middle child of the franchise where everyone is Australian and gravity is entirely optional.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is the classic definition of an underrated gem. Stuck directly in the massive shadow of Borderlands 2, it often gets unfairly brushed aside by the community. However, if you actually give it a chance, you'll find a fantastic looter-shooter that takes everything great about its predecessor and shoots it directly to the moon. Literally. Set on the lunar surface of Elpis, the game leans heavily into its development by 2K Australia. The result is an incredibly fun, unhinged world packed with fantastic Aussie humor, bizarre slang, and space bogans trying to murder you in a vacuum.

The biggest shift here is the combat loop, which arguably features some of the most fun mobility in the entire franchise. The introduction of low gravity and "Oz" (oxygen) kits completely changes how you approach a firefight. You aren't just hiding behind cover anymore; you are soaring fifty feet into the air, raining down newly introduced laser fire, and executing devastating "butt slams" to crush enemies beneath you. Furthermore, Cryo (ice) weapons replace the tedious Slag mechanic from the second game. There is absolutely nothing quite as satisfying as freezing a leaping psycho mid-air and shattering him into a million icy pieces with a shotgun blast. It adds a layer of verticality that makes going back to ground-bound movement feel sluggish.

From a narrative standpoint, it is an absolute must-play for fans of the lore. Getting a front-row seat to watch the tragic, slow-burn corruption of Handsome Jack—watching him devolve from a slightly arrogant but well-meaning hero into the greatest villain in gaming history—is a fantastic ride. Plus, the Vault Hunters themselves have incredibly deep, well-designed skill trees that rival anything in the main games. Where else in the gaming industry are you actively encouraged to play as Claptrap, whose ultimate ability might randomly force your entire co-op team to start bouncing around like rubber balls?

8/10 — I came for the loot, I stayed to weaponize Claptrap's existential dread.
