One of the great blessings of growing up in the South is to experience the symphony of insects at dusk. The heavy, humid air in summer hosts languid waves of cicada song, interwoven with the tune of crickets and katydids. I’ve been a New Yorker now for thirty years, but the evening songs of Memphis are in my DNA. Here, I imagine a wetland scene at dusk filled with the bouncing and colliding songs of myriad critters.
