The song "Saviour's Raft" is a sonic exploration of an early 19th century painting "The Raft of the Medusa" by Theodore Gericault.
This strong, violent depiction of the terrible fate that came upon the survivors was a direct inspiration to tell this story once again, this time captured in a song. The pale colours, the storm, and the raw, unfiltered brutality in the figures' facial expressions, alongside their desperate search for hope, collectively render a potent image.
Author says: The strong image of the painting echoed in my mind right after I listened to our initial demo track. It had vocal melodies, but without any meaning; they were added just to set the tone. The thought of exploring the fate of survivors was an instant eureka moment. I first encountered this painting in middle school, during a history of art class. We were required to maintain a notebook filled with prints of famous paintings, which we labelled and annotated with the author’s notes and descriptions. At the end my notebook resembled a small personal art gallery. The Raft of the Medusa was there and it is one of those images that I still remember to this day and have the same questions about.
The song's title captures the infamous raft as both a means of salvation and a source of extreme, violent conditions. It encapsulates the dynamics both in the music and in the message.
The lyrics pose unsettling questions: How can we survive in extreme conditions? Could someone hide from the others in circumstances where it is not physically possible? A moment when our place turns into a living trap from which there is no escape.
The difficulty of choices, the hesitation, the attack. And between all of this resides a short moment where a mind shifts to do what's best to survive. The fight of an individual against others. The moment when "us" becomes "me".
The verse "First one falling plagues the fall with cutting the strands” is a metaphor of triggering a chain reaction, a domino effect with its devastating consequences.
"Surrounded by faithful, unwavering stare". Even when sharing the same fate, a mutual will to survive, the extreme conditions slowly make it fade away being replaced by stronger and stronger hunger and thirst.
"Repulse, repel". When unity fractures, leaving only remnants of what once was. When the face alters and turns dark. When a place shared becomes a place to fight for. The lyrics and the song's composition, resembling patches stitched together, trace the journey from unity to the first thought of violence, and finally to its outbreak.

Dans ce style, "stoner" prog/psychédélique, Je nomme King Buffalo ex-aequo avec Hypnos 69, un groupe que j'apprécie énormément (en plus mélo et moins groovy).
