If your Apple Remote (aluminium or white) isn’t working

If your remote isn’t working as expected, find out what to do.

Apple Remote (aluminium) comes with Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation) and Apple Remote (white) comes with Apple TV (1st generation).

Try following these steps first

  1. Replace the battery in your remote.

  2. Unplug your Apple TV from its power source. Wait at least six seconds, then plug it back in.

Link your remote to your Apple TV

  1. Unlink your Apple Remote from your Apple TV. On your Apple Remote, hold down Menu and the left button for six seconds. Then on your Apple TV, look for the Unlink iconthe Unlink icon above an icon of a remote.

  2. Link your Apple Remote to your Apple TV. On your Apple Remote, hold down Menu and the right button for six seconds. Then on your Apple TV, look for the Link iconthe Link icon above an icon of a remote.
