You can send a voice message to a person or group in Google Chat and transcribe these voice messages into text.
Send a voice message
Important: If this is the first time you send a message to a particular person, they must accept your message request before you can chat with them.
- On your computer, open Google Chat or Gmail.
    - In Gmail: On the left, click Chat.
 
- Click New chat.
- Enter a name or an email address.
- Click Start chat.
    - When you enter a name or email address, you can get suggestions.
- To start a group DM, add more names or email addresses.
 
- In the reply area, click the mic . 
- In the popup, to record and stop the recording, select the red circle . 
Tip: After recording, you can find options to either restart or send the voice message.
View or hide voice message transcription
- On your computer, open Google Chat or Gmail.
    - In Gmail: On the left, click Chat.
 
- Click a conversation, direct message, or space.
- To view the voice message transcript:
    - Sender: Click below the voice message Show more. 
- Receiver: Click below the voice message View transcript. 
 
- Sender: Click below the voice message 
- To hide the transcript, click Hide transcript.
