Turn Chrome signals sharing on or off

As an administrator, you can use Chrome signals sharing to gather Chrome browser device signals directly from a user's signed-in profile. For example, Security advisor can use collected data, such as the OS, encryption status, screen lock status, and browser security settings, to generate email insights for end users.

Turn on Chrome signals sharing

Chrome signals sharing is on by default. If you turned it off, you can turn it on again.

Before you begin: If you need to set up a department or team for this setting, go to Add an organizational unit.

  1. Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.

    If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

  2. Go to  Menu and then Devices > Mobile & endpoints > Settings > Universal.

    Requires having the Mobile Device Management administrator privilege.

  3. Click Data Accessand thenDevice signals.
  4. (Optional) To apply the setting to a department or team, at the side, select an organizational unit. Show me how
  5. Check the Collect Device signals from Chrome browser box.
  6. Click Save. Or, you might click Override for an organizational unit.

    To later restore the inherited value, click Inherit (or Unset for a group).

Review device signals

You can review the device details that Chrome signals sharing collects from users who are signed in to their Chrome profile.

  1. Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.

    If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

  2. Go to  Menu and then Devices > Mobile & endpoints > Devices.

    Requires having the Mobile Device Management administrator privilege.

  3. Click Add a filterand thenManagement type.
  4. Check the Fundamental box and click Apply.

Turn off Chrome signals sharing

When you turn off Chrome signals sharing, device signals are no longer gathered. Devices that were listed as Fundamental devices when Chrome signals sharing was turned on are no longer listed.

  1. Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.

    If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

  2. Go to  Menu and then Devices > Mobile & endpoints > Settings > Universal.

    Requires having the Mobile Device Management administrator privilege.

  3. Click Data Accessand thenDevice signals.

  5. Uncheck the Collect Device signals from Chrome browser box.

Troubleshoot Chrome signals sharing

If you can't find any device signals in the Admin console, make sure end users are signed in to their Chrome profile. If that doesn’t work, contact Google Workspace support.
