Check the review status of an ad or asset

After you’ve created an ad or asset, you can check whether it’s been reviewed or not in the “Status” column. Most reviews are completed within one business day, but more complex reviews can take longer. Google reserves the right to prioritize reviews to ensure the overall stability of system operations.

Check the status of an ad or ad group

  1. Go to the Campaigns menu and select the Campaigns drop down in the section menu.
  2. Select Ads or Ad groups.
  3. Review the "Status" column for the current status of your ad or ad group.

Check the status of an asset

  1. Go to Assets within the Campaigns menu.
  2. Review the "Status" column for the current status of your asset.

Check detailed policy information of an ad, ad group, or asset

The "Policy details" column provides information about why a disapproved ad isn't "Eligible", or why an "Eligible (limited)" ad is limited to a certain audience. You can add the “Policy details column” to the Ads or Assets table.

Steps to add Policy details columns to your Ads or Assets table

  1. Go to the Ads or Assets page within the Campaigns menu.
  2. Select the Columns A picture of the Google Ads columns icon icon above the statistics table.
  3. From the dropdown menu, select Modify columns. The "Modify columns" menu may open automatically in certain campaign filter views. Proceed to step 4 if the "Modify columns" option is unavailable.
  4. In the “Modify columns” menu, select to expand the Attributes column section.
  5. Select Policy details.
  6. Select Apply. The “Policy details” column will now appear in your statistics table.
  • Detailed policy information is readily available in the Google Ads web UI. For advertisers currently using Smart Mode in Google Ads, please switch to Expert Mode for full policy information. Learn more About Smart Mode and Expert Mode.
  • If you create campaigns using another product like Google Ads Editor, the Google Ads mobile app, or a third party product, access your account using the Google Ads web UI for full policy information.

What each status means

You’ll notice a status both before your ad or asset is eligible and after it’s been reviewed.

Before review, your ad or asset will have the following status:

  • Under review: The ad or asset is still being reviewed and will be eligible to serve if we determine that it complies with our policies. The review process typically takes one business day, but more complex reviews can take longer. In some instances, the review process may take longer than expected. If your ad or asset remains under review for longer than 48 hours, it's recommended to try the following troubleshooting steps.
  1. Refresh your browser or Google Ads page: A simple refresh can sometimes resolve display issues in the Google Ads interface.
  2. Check the asset status directly in the specific campaign or ad group (if applicable): If data is viewed through MCC ( Manager account) , check the status within the individual child accounts to make sure that the status is reflected accurately.
  3. Re-upload the assets: In some cases, re-uploading the asset can reset the review process.
Note: Newly uploaded assets will also go through the review process. Delete the existing assets, and then recreate them within your Google Ads account.

After review, your ad can run if it has one of these statuses:

  • Eligible: The ad complies with the Google Ads policies, so it can be shown to all audiences.
  • Eligible (limited): The ad can run, but not in all situations because of policy restrictions, such as trademark use or gambling-related content.
  • Eligible (limited all locations): The ad can’t run in your targeted locations because of policy restrictions and targeting settings. The ad can run, however, to people interested in your targeted locations.
  • Serving: The video ad is eligible to appear on YouTube.

After review, your asset can run if it has one of these statuses:

  • Approved: The asset complies with the Google Ads policies, so it can be shown to all audiences.
  • Approved (limited): The asset can run, but not in all situations because of policy restrictions such as trademark use or gambling-related content.
Note: If you believe your asset has been incorrectly labeled for a policy restriction and shouldn't be serving as Approved (limited), please follow the instructions outlined here.

After review, your ad can't run if it has one these statuses:

  • Disapproved: The ad can't run because its content or its destination violates Google Ads policy. If an ad is disapproved, it won't receive impressions. To fix a disapproved ad, follow the guidelines here.
  • Not eligible: The ad is not serving because the campaign is paused, removed, ended, or pending or the ad group is paused, removed, or incomplete.

Not related to ad review, your ad might have another status such as "Paused", "Ended", or "Pending".
