Control Google smart devices by touch

Use touch controls to adjust the volume, media playback functions, and more on your Google smart speaker or display.

Important: Touch controls change only the volume of media and voice assistant. Learn how to change the volume of alarms and timers.

Tap the center of the Nest Audio.

Turn up the volume

Tap the right side of the Nest Audio.

The volume ranges from 0-100%. Each tap changes the volume by 5%.

Tap the left side of the Nest Audio.

The volume ranges from 0-100%. Each tap changes the volume by 5%.

Tip: When the volume is set to 0:

  • Media is muted.
  • Your assistant speaks at 5% volume.

Turn mic on or off

Toggle the switch next to the power cord.

  • When the mic is on, the lights are white.
  • When the mic is off, the lights and switch are orange.
Tip: If you turn off the microphone, your assistant can't listen or interact with you.

Factory reset the device

Turn the mic off, then press and hold the lights in the center of the Nest Audio.

Hold for about 15 seconds.

Googel Nest Mini Google Nest Mini (2nd gen)

The Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) has a wall mount screw slot on the back. If your device doesn’t have a wall mount screw slot, it's a Google Home Mini (1st gen).

To reverse the right and left controls:

  1.  Open the Google Home app Google Home Application Icon. 
  2. Tap Home  and then All devices , then touch and hold your device's tile.
  3.  Tap Settings Audio Reverse device controls.

Horizontal placement: Tap the line on the top of the Google Home Max.

Turn mic on or off

Toggle the switch on the back of the Google Home Max.

  • When the mic is on, the lights are white.
  • When the mic is off, the lights and switch are orange.

You can't use your voice or the Google Home app to turn the mic on or off.

Tip: When you turn off the microphone:

  • Your assistant can't listen or interact with you
  • Room EQ is turned off

Factory reset the device

Press and hold the factory reset button above the power cord on the back of the Google Home Max. Find the small gray button.

Hold for about 12 seconds.

Unplug the power cable from the Google Home Max.

Factory reset the device

Press and hold the factory reset button located below the power cord on the bottom of the Home Mini. Find the circle etched into the base.

Hold for about 12 seconds.

Swipe clockwise on the top of the device.

Press and hold on the top of the device.

You can also use your screen to control your Google Nest display.
