When you access Google Nest camera or doorbell video with the app, you can zoom in with your fingers to take a closer look.
Zoom in and out of your camera’s video to temporarily take a closer look at part of the scene.
Important: If you zoom in or out, the footage that’s uploaded to the Nest service won't change. It won’t change what appears for other people who have access to your camera in the app. Your camera will still stream its entire wide-angle view. Just the same, the camera’s entire view will still appear in recorded and saved video.

Zoom and Crop keeps your camera zoomed in all the time, even when you’re not watching video. This allows the camera to focus its sensor on a smaller area.
Here’s what happens when you use the zoom and crop feature:
- The zoomed-in crop view will be the default when you watch live video. The same goes for any other people who share access to your home in the Google Home app.
- You won’t get alerts about motion that happens outside the zoomed-in area. This includes what you have set up with Activity Zones. After you turn on Zoom and Crop, you should manually adjust your zones to fit the new scene.
- Only the zoomed-in portion gets recorded if you have a Google Home Premium subscription.

- Use 2 fingers to pinch and zoom to adjust the view to your preference.
- After pinch and zoom, Zoom and Crop will appear. If it’s not on the screen, tap the screen once to bring up the camera controls. You can also find the magnification level of the cropped view beside the icon. If you still don’t see Zoom and Crop , this means that your camera does not support the function. - Tip: You can set the zoom level permanently. This action can be undone.
- Important: When you Zoom and Crop pinch and zoom, your camera’s aspect ratio will be retained. For example, if your camera is at 16:9, then it will always keep a 16:9 ratio. What you see on the screen before you crop can sometimes end up different from what you see afterwards. Also, your activity zones may be affected if you configure this.

- Wait a few seconds for your camera to update and sharpen the view.
To turn off Zoom and Crop, tap Reset  . If it’s not on the screen, tap it once to bring up the camera controls.
