Remove a device from your Google Account

Remove each product from the app it was first set up on. For example, if you first set up a thermostat with the Google Home app, remove it from the Home app. If you can't remove it from or can't find your product in one app, check the other one.

You can remove Matter-enabled devices from your Google Account with the Google Home app. Non-Matter-enabled devices need to be removed from the manufacturer’s app.

Consider the following before you remove a product

Nest Protect

After your Nest Protect has been removed from your account, it will still sound an alarm if it detects specified levels of smoke or carbon monoxide. However, some features will be limited.

  • You won't get notifications from the Nest Protect when there's an alarm.

  • You'll no longer be able to check the last reported status of the Nest Protect in the Nest app.

  • You won't be able to change settings.

  • Your Protect will no longer receive software updates.

If you add your Protect to the app again, you first need to perform a factory reset.

Nest cameras & doorbells

Important: When the removal is complete, wait until the light ring on your camera pulses blue before you unplug it. If you unplug your camera before that, you'll need to reset it to get it to work again. Refer to Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell.

  • If you remove a camera from your account, all of its recorded Video History gets deleted as well.

  • Even if you’ve already removed your camera from your account, you can still cancel the Google Home Premium subscription.

Nest × Yale Lock

Important: To change settings on your Nest × Yale Lock after you remove it from your account, complete a factory reset. All your passcodes will be cleared, and you can create new passcodes with the lock's keypad.

After you remove your Nest x Yale Lock from your account, you can:

  • Still use the passcodes previously set up with your account.
  • Use the thumb turn inside your home.

The following can’t be done:

  • Create or change passcodes with the Nest app.
  • Remotely lock and unlock your door with the Nest app.
  • Check the last reported lock or unlock status.
  • Receive notifications, such as low battery, deadbolt extension and retraction issues, and tamper warnings.
  • Adjust some settings to enable or disable features.
Google Nest Hub Max

Once your Nest Hub Max is removed from your account:

  • All Nest Cam footage in your history will be deleted except for saved clips.
  • You need to set up your device again in order to use it.

Your Nest Hub Max will no longer:

  • Recognize voice commands.
  • Play media.
  • Show reminders or calendar events.
  • Use the built-in Nest Cam.
