Fix Pixel Watch setup and phone pairing issues

If your Pixel Watch won't connect to your phone, try the troubleshooting steps below.

  1. Confirm that the Pixel Watch battery is fully charged.
  2. To confirm that you have correctly set up your device, watch the Pixel Watch setup video .
  3. Update your Pixel Watch firmware.
  4. Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is turned on. Your phone must be within 0.5 m (1.6 ft) of your Pixel Watch for Fast Pair to work.
  5. Turn on location and Wi-Fi.

Restart your Pixel Watch if it freezes while pairing

  1. Press and hold the crown for 3 seconds.
  2. Scroll down and tap Restart.
  3. Once the watch restarts, wait until the watch is fully on.
  4. Bring the phone and watch together again, then retry the pairing process.

Factory reset and reconnect

If you've tried the steps above and the Pixel Watch still won't pair with your phone, factory reset your watch to fix the issue.

Important: After you reset your watch to factory settings, all apps, settings, and data on your watch are erased.

A factory reset will help resolve multiple issues you may encounter in the Google Pixel watch app, which include:

  • ‘Can’t pair’ or ‘Can’t find your watch’ error message on the Pixel Watch app.
  • Forgotten PIN or passcode.
  • "Something went wrong" error message.
  • Frozen on the screen with the "G" logo.
Step 1: Reset from the Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch app

You can reset from either the Google Pixel Watch app or your Google Pixel Watch.

Reset from your Google Pixel Watch

  1. On Google Pixel Watch, swipe down and tap Settings .
    • You can alternatively press and hold the crown for 3 seconds.
  2. Tap Settings and then Disconnect & reset and then Ok .

Reset from the Google Pixel Watch app

  1. On your phone, open the Google Pixel Watch app .
  2. Tap System and then Reset and unpair watch.
Step 2: If your watch won't reset, try your phone settings
  1. Uninstall the Google Pixel Watch app .
  2. Navigate to Settings and then Connected Devices.
  3. Forget any watch devices listed.
  4. Restart the phone.
  5. After the phone has restarted, make sure your watch and phone are near each other. The pairing screen should appear on your phone so you can go through the pairing process again.
Step 3: If other steps fail, reset from Fastboot
Important: You can factory reset your watch from your phone or use the Fastboot reset method. After the reset, you’re required to sign in with your most recent PIN or Google account login when you re-pair your phone and watch. This will help prevent others from using your device without permission.
  1. Long press the crown and the side button of your Google Pixel Watch for around 20 seconds. A dark screen with the "G" logo or a colorful ‘G’ logo on Pixel Watch 3 will appear. If your watch is currently turned off, press the crown for a few seconds to turn it on.
  2. As soon as the watch shows the "G" logo, tap the upper-left and lower-right edges of the watch face screen at the same time. The watch will enter "Fastboot" mode.
  3. Press the side button next to the crown to scroll down.
  4. When "Recovery Mode" is highlighted, press the crown. The message "No Command" will appear on the watch face.
  5. Press and hold the crown and swipe up on your screen at the same time. A debug screen will appear on the watch face.
  6. Swipe down until "Wipe Data or Factory Reset" is highlighted.
  7. Swipe right to reset your watch and PIN.
  8. After data is wiped, swipe right or press the crown when “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
Step 4: Hard reset your watch while connected to the charger

If your screen is still unresponsive after you perform the steps above, you can try to hard reset your watch while it’s connected to the charger. Just make sure that your watch is placed on your charger when you perform the hard reset.

If you've tried all of the steps above and your watch is still not reset, contact support.
Step 5: Reconnect your phone and watch
After you reset your watch, you can try to reconnect it to your phone. For the instructions, refer to set up Google Pixel Watch.
