Leave a group plan or remove members

Your Google Fi group owner and managers can remove members from your group. Each member can leave a group at any time.

Important: When you leave a group plan, it permanently cancels your service. This differs from a service pause, which is a temporary hold and may result in charges when it resumes automatically.

When you decide to leave or someone removes you from your group, you can:

  • Join another Google Fi group.
  • Create an individual Google Fi account.
    • You must be 18 or older.
  • Port out your number to Google Voice or another carrier. To keep your number, start the porting process with your new provider before you cancel your service on the group plan.

Group owners and managers aren’t able to manage phone numbers for other members. To transfer a number to another carrier, each member must get their own port-out account number and transfer PIN from their Google Fi account.

If someone removes you from a group, your service is cut off. You have 60 days to port out your number, or we automatically release it. Your group owner is responsible for any pending charges from before you leave or they remove you.

Leave a plan as a group member

Important:

  • If you’re a group member who uses an iPhone or iPad, you must leave the plan from the Google Fi website.
  • A child’s account can’t leave the group on their own. The owner must remove these accounts.
Any manager or member can leave a group plan without permission from the group owner.
  1. On your device, open the Google Fi app Fi or sign in to fi.google.com.
  2. In the "Account" tab, go to the "Plan" section.
  3. Select Leave Google Fi.
  4. To confirm you want to leave, follow the on-screen steps.
    • To transfer your number to a new carrier, select Transfer your number to another carrier.
  5. After you start the process, you can find your account number and PIN.
  6. To view your information, on the "Home" tab, select Get transfer info.

Tip: If "Leave Google Fi" is unavailable, for more help, select Contact us.

When you leave a plan as a group member:

  • You can transfer your phone number to another Google Fi plan, create your own individual Google Fi account, or transfer your number to Google Voice or another provider.
  • If you have a financed device, the leftover balance is charged to the group bill and the owner pays the balance.
  • If your device is enrolled in Google Fi device protection or Pixel Care+ as a group member, its enrollment is discontinued.
Leave a plan as a group owner
Important:
  • Group members can’t stay in a group once the owner cancels service. If members want to stay in a Google Fi group plan, one of them must start their own group and invite the others.
  • Pay any outstanding balance before you cancel your plan.

  1. On your device, open the Google Fi app Fi or sign in to fi.google.com.
  2. From the "Home" tab:
    • Navigate to the "Plans" tab.
    • Or, under the "Plan highlights" section, select Manage plan.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the "Manage plan" page.
  4. Select Leave Google Fi.

Tip: If Leave Google Fi is unavailable, select Contact us for more help.

When the group owner leaves the plan:

  • The owner’s service is scheduled for cancellation. This includes data, calls, and texts.
  • The owner can transfer their number to another Google Fi plan, Google Voice, or another provider.
  • The owner and members current device protection plans, like Google Fi device protection or Pixel Care+ are discontinued.
  • The owner remains responsible for paying off any financed devices on the plan, even to devices other members use. The final bill includes the remaining balance for all financed devices.
  • The owner receives their final billing statements after their service ends. It can take up to 90 days to fully process all charges and credits. Any remaining account credit is refunded to the owner’s original payment method.

The owner also chooses when to end service for the other group members:

Option 1: Keep their service active until they leave

  • Group members will continue to have service and data for up to 60 days or until they leave the group plan. The group bill is charged for service and data and the owner still pays the bill.
  • When leaving, group members can transfer their phone numbers to another Google Fi plan, Google Voice, or another provider.
  • If no action is taken after 60 days, the phone number is automatically released.

Option 2: Cancel their service immediately

  • Calls, texts, and data are cut off immediately.
  • Group members can still transfer their phone numbers to another Google Fi plan, Google Voice, or another provider.
Remove a member from a group

To remove a group member, use the Google Fi website:

  1. Open the Google Fi app Fi or sign in to fi.google.com.
  2. Under "Manage plan," select the group member you want to remove.
  3. Select Remove.

Tip: If you can’t remove a member in the Google Fi app, use a computer or a mobile browser to access the website. If you still can’t find the "Remove" option, open the website in Incognito mode.

Each user you remove gets an app notification and email with their Google Fi account transfer info.

The member you remove has 60 days to transfer their number to:

  • Another Google Fi plan
  • Google Voice
  • Another provider

If the group member doesn’t transfer their number after 60 days, we automatically release their phone number.
