Feature availability
- Ask Gemini in Google Meet is currently available to Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus subscriptions.
- Currently, only English-language meetings are supported, but more language support will be available soon.
- To get immediate access for your organization, you can join Google Workspace with Gemini Alpha.
How Ask Gemini in Google Meet works
Ask Gemini in Meet brings the power of Gemini into your organization’s meetings. It can help track action items and summarize discussions.
You can use Ask Gemini to:
- Summarize ongoing discussions, or get a recap of what someone said
- List key takeaways, decisions, and action items
- Catch up on what you missed if you joined late (if "take notes for me" was enabled)
Additional details:
- A user’s interactions and responses from Ask Gemini in Meet are private to that user.
- Ask Gemini generates answers by referring to meeting captions, Google Workspace resources (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, etc.) that the user has permission to view, and content from Google search and public websites.
- No caption data will be stored after the meeting ends. Ask Gemini in Meet does not create a meeting recording.
- Ask Gemini in Meet cannot answer questions about meeting discussions that happen before the user has joined the meeting, unless "take notes for me" had already been turned on before they joined.
- Only meetings in English are currently supported, but support for more languages is coming soon.
- Ask Gemini in Meet is only available on desktop at this time.
- Ask Gemini in Meet is not available in breakout rooms at this time.
Gemini in Workspace can make mistakes, including about people, so users should review its output.
Get started with Ask Gemini in Google Meet
- In the meeting you’re in, at the top right, click click Ask Gemini a question . - This feature auto-starts after 2 participants join the meeting, or the meeting host can turn it on manually.
 
- In the side panel, you can:
    - Select a suggested prompt
- Write your own prompt
 
- At the bottom in the prompt box, enter a prompt.
- Click Enter.
- Optional: To remove your history, click More options Clear history . - Tip: You lose your conversation history when:
          - You reload your browser.
- You close and re-open the meeting.
- Your computer goes offline.

Turn Ask Gemini in Google Meet on or off
Ask Gemini is available by default unless disabled by the organization Admin.
Getting started
- Admins: Ask Gemini in Meet will be ON by default. Admins can configure it to be OFF or ON at the domain, OU, and Group level in the Admin console by going to Google Workspace > Google Meet > Gemini Settings.
- Meeting hosts and co-hosts: Meeting hosts have the ability to turn Ask Gemini in Meet OFF for all meeting participants. Hosts can do so from the Calendar event, or during the meeting by hovering over the Gemini icon and clicking on the three-dot menu, or by going to Host controls > Gemini.
- Meeting participants: All meeting participants in a meeting with Ask Gemini in Meet enabled will be shown a consent banner in the meeting. Participants joining a meeting via dial-in will hear an announcement informing them that Ask Gemini in Meet is enabled. Participants with Smart Features disabled will not be able to use Ask Gemini.
Important:
- If a meeting host leaves the company, administrators must cancel or transfer their events before they delete the user account. Learn how to cancel or transfer calendar events.
- Within a meeting, go to Host controls . 
- Under “Gemini” section, turn Gemini on or off.
Meeting hosts can also turn Ask Gemini on or off before a meeting starts:
- On your computer, go to calendar.google.com.
- Click the event or meeting you want to turn Ask Gemini on or off.
- From the pop-up menu, click Edit event . - If your event doesn’t have a meeting attached, click Add Google Meet video conferencing.
 
- Click Video call options Gemini . - If you don't want meeting attendees to use Gemini, turn off Meeting attendees can use Ask Gemini.
 
Learn about your privacy with Ask Gemini in Google Meet
Your meeting experience is private with Ask Gemini in Google Meet. No one else can access your private conversations and they’re visible only to you. To create summaries and responses, Ask Gemini has temporary access to live meeting captions, but those records do not persist after the meeting ends. If you’re a meeting participant and not the host, you can ask the meeting host to turn this feature off for everyone in the meeting.
If you disable Smart features, you’ll be unable to prompt Ask Gemini. However, others in the meeting will still be able to use Ask Gemini. Learn about smart features and controls in Google products.
Meeting host considerations
- The meeting host can turn off the feature at any time in the meeting.
- Meeting hosts should confirm consent from external participants when they use Ask Gemini in Google Meet during meetings.
- Meeting hosts should ensure that any users who join a meeting via dial-in are aware that they can ask the host to disable it.
The difference between Ask Gemini in Google Meet and “take notes for me”
Use Ask Gemini in Meet to privately catch up on what you missed, ask questions about the discussion, and get key takeaways in an active meeting. If you want to automatically take meeting notes and share the notes document with meeting attendees after the meeting, then use “take notes for me.” Learn about “take notes for me” in Google Meet.
Troubleshoot
You might not be able to use Ask Gemini in Google Meet  because of these reasons:
- The meeting organizer doesn't have a Workspace Edition that includes Ask Gemini in Google Meet.
- Your admin might have disabled this feature for you.
- Smart feature control is turned off. Learn about smart features and controls in Google products.
    - If you turn off smart features, you can’t use Ask Gemini in Google Meet. However, others in the meeting will still be able to use Ask Gemini in Google Meet to process and analyze all meeting attendees communications.
 
- The meeting host has turned off Ask Gemini for this meeting or has Smart feature control turned off.
- If you’re the only one in the meeting, wait for another person to join to use Ask Gemini in Google Meet.
Other considerations
- To receive prior notice about Ask Gemini before you join a meeting, update your app to the latest version.
- Ask Gemini isn’t intended to be used for generating transcripts. Instead, you can use Transcripts.
Give feedback on generated output
As Gemini continues to learn, it might not support some requests.
If you get a suggestion that’s inaccurate or you feel is unsafe, you can submit feedback. Feedback data does not contain personal, sensitive, or confidential information:
- Below the generated output, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion . 
- If you click Bad suggestion , select the issue you found. 
- Enter additional feedback.
- Click Submit.
