Audio description is a narration track that makes video content accessible to your audience. Audio descriptions describe what's happening on screen during natural pauses in the audio, so your audience can better understand and follow along.
Note: You may not have access to audio descriptions. However, creators who have access to multi-language audio can add audio descriptive tracks. Learn about multi-language audio.
Upload new audio descriptions
- Sign in to YouTube Studio on your computer.
- From the left menu, select Languages
.
- Click the video that you'd like to edit.
- Select your language.
- Note: To add a descriptive audio track, you need to have already uploaded the original or dubbed audio track in the language of the descriptive audio.
- Next to ‘Descriptive audio,' click Add.
- Click Select file.
- Choose which file to upload. Files must be in a supported audio-only file format and roughly the same length as your video.
- Click Publish when you’re ready to upload your audio track.
Replace previously uploaded audio files
If you uploaded an audio description track and want to replace it with a new one:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio on your computer.
- From the left menu, select Languages
.
- Click the video that you'd like to edit.
- Select the language you’d like to delete.
- Once you have opened the language, navigate to ‘Descriptive Audio.’
- Click
Delete for the language you’d like to replace.
- Repeat the steps for uploading a new audio description track.
