London-based Sustance marks his debut solo release on Shogun Audio with the Blood Money EP. Featuring four tracks that cover all angles of the deeper and darker side of drum & bass, the minimal specialist presents an offering that is sure to whet the appetites of Shogun heads – new and old.
‘Blood Money’ opens, tightly-crafted drums and minimal tribal percussion expertly mixed with a booming sub and rude distorted bassline. Calling on Critical and Flexout alumni Charli Brix in ‘Break The Habit’, her vocal floating over his trademark dark sound and leading into a bouncing, deep climax. Harking to the days of SpectraSoul and Alix Perez on Shogun yet with his own signature twist, ‘Be Forgiven’ follows. Featuring nostalgic keys and a warm undulating bassline, this is the definition of a roller. ‘Lapis’ closes, a collaboration with 1985 peer Monty. The rowdiest of the bunch, this stepper tastefully ends Sustance’s bold statement of intent with the Blood Money EP.
