Eventful Summer So Far

Well, it has been an eventful summer so far.  I've started work at The Farm; I co-teach 2-week day camps (T-F) to 8-12 year olds.  They've seemed to have fun playing farm games, doing farm crafts, making and eating farm snacks, and other farm activities/farm jobs.  I really enjoy all the staff, my boss, and my co-teacher.  Although the day is long (7.5 hours including lunch with the kiddos), I enjoy working 4 days on and having 3 days off!
Before one of my besties, Derlin, left for CA for her internship, a small group of us took a 5-mile hike up to Horsetooth.  It is a rock here in Fort Collins that looks like a horses tooth, only upside down.  We were able to climb up on top of the right-most part of the tooth and eat some snacks.  Here are some pictures from that day:
Above is a picture of the tooth up close

This is the view on the other side of the rock
(looking west instead of east at Fort Collins)

All of us who went hiking: Bill, Me, Colleen, and Derlin

If you look closely, you'll see a road in the middle of the picture going up towards the top of the picture.  This is Horsetooth Rd. in Fort Collins.  Also, you can see Horsetooth Reservoir on the west side of Fort Collins.

Besides this hike, the other eventful situation was an epic hail storm.  There were warnings about it, but all the storms seemed to move north or south of us (according to the radar).  After Andy left for work, it started hailing quartet-sized hail.  Our front porch flooded about 2-inches or water with hail floating on top and all of our plants/hops got a major beating.  Hopefully they will survive.

Hopefully the plants will be okay after getting cleaned up and getting some water and sun!

Another Rainy Day

Today was yet another rainy day.  This is the most I have seen it rain in Colorado (at least for the past 2 1/2 years).  Usually it rains and the next day is sure to be sunny, but we had 3 days of rain, one day of sun, another day of rain with an evening of sun, 1-2 days of rain, and now a rainy forecast for the next week.  Today it poured so hard it was overflowing from our rain gutters (see picture)  Anywho, last night I made Fudgy Rum Brownies (see picture below).  There sure are delicious.  Today I made hummus for the first time, watched a movie, went to dinner with the husband, and watched the finale of America's Next Top Model.  It was a nice relaxing day!  I even got to talk to my sister for a long time!

Until later, signing off from FoCo!

Finally Summer is Here!

Well, summer is finally here!  I am officially done with my second year of graduate school and I got straight A's this semester!!!  Yay :o)  I have the next two weeks "off", then I begin my new job at The Farm!  I'll be coordinating and facilitating farm activities, snacks, crafts, and games for all the kiddos who come for a day of fun at the farm.  Some of my friends are graduated and moving away for their internship, so I'm trying to spend as much time with them as possible.  Plans for this week: to plant veggies and herbs in the big barrel flower pot I have on our back patio.  The front garden is growing gradually, the hops are about 3 inches or so, and the sunflowers and others are close behind.  It's been raining a lot (even for Colorado), so hopefully that will help them grow!

More to come!

Why a Blog?

I've decided to create this blog to allow friends and family (mainly those not on Facebook) to stay caught up with my life.  Even on Facebook, I don't always go into very much detail of daily events in my life.

Hope you all enjoy hearing more about what's going on.  I'll try to post regularly and please feel free to comment!

Love,
Karmen
