Joy in the Ordinary

As the keeper of the home, it's easy to get lost in the mundane. To lose sight of joy as we are bogged down in the every day. One way to combat that is to stop and find joy in the ordinary moments. I personally know that this isn't always easy. What I do know is that when I am intentional about slowing down and finding the joy it changes my perspective.

Some ordinary, yet joyful moments from my week.

The weather has finally warmed up. Hallelujah! We are suppose to have above average temperatures for the next 15 days, and I'm all about it!

I have been spending as much time outside as possible. I love porch sitting weather! I was sitting one evening and Megan came out and said something about her legs being so white they were reflective. She then plopped down to sun them and a few minutes later asked me if there was any difference. Ha! Thanks for the laugh, kid.

My plants are looking fabulous. Not to sound prideful, but I'm super excited about them. Especially after a trip to the big box hardware store where I saw that are selling one, yes one, tomato plant for $4.98.  Crazy!

Today I will start to harden them off. I'm dreaming of getting into the garden. Not all of my time has been porch sitting and dreaming of gardening. The plastic has been pulled off of chicken run.

All of my deep cleaning and purging of the house has been sorted, tagged, and is packed up for a future garage sale. About two years ago my father-in-law packed up and moved to Florida. We ended with so much stuff from his place. We have three storage barns and they are stuffed. There is more stuff then we have room for and there are things we really didn't want, but felt obligated to take. The plan is to clean those out and then have a big sale. There are things in there that are just worth too much to just donate. I think we might be a little crazy for this plan!
Our next project is to spread some mulch. Hopefully tonight. I might sound like a broken record, but man, oh man was this expensive! I had sticker shock. Thankfully we had some gift cards and only spent about $12 out of pocket.
Not really joyful, but I am thankful for the outcome.
While getting into my car at the grocery store I dropped my glasses. (they were tucked into the collar of my shirt, as I was wearing my sunglasses.) By the time I realized it the car in the spot next to me had run them over. The good news is that I had insurance so I only have to pay $25 for the replacement. Bonus is that the exact frames are still available.

I am currently wearing an old prescription. They are killing me! They are from two prescriptions ago and are scratched. Still going to find joy that I have a pair to wear. Better than nothing!

Look around, really look around and you will find joy... joy in the everyday... joy in the ordinary things.

Happy Easter!

Alive, alive, alive forevermore
My Jesus is alive, alive for forevermore
Alive, alive, alive forevermore
My Jesus is Alive!

It was a beautiful day to celebrate my risen savior! We started the day with a little backyard photoshoot.

Later we ended up at my parents. Delicious food, and lots of it! I brought home tons of leftovers. Yay!
The M & M crew! (My mom and Megan)
The little guys sort of hunted eggs. They are still little and the littlest was more interested in running, which involved lots of chasing.

Before we called it a day I insisted that we all stop for family photos. Some find it irritating, but I know one day they will thank me. *smile*
Especially when you capture a little one with a finger up his nose (ha!) and my glowing niece who is about a month away from having twin girls.
I hope your Easter was just as beautiful as mine!

A New Week

The last couple of weeks have been eat ice cream from the carton kind of weeks!

Not to go into details, but there was some drama around me and this girl does not do drama! Thankfully it seems that things have settle down. It stresses me out and make me want to close off into my little world even more.

My niece and her little family are buying a house. We have been super busy helping them get it ready. I have painted and painted and will be painting some more. Chuck is busy doing the hard stuff, like electrical work and installing the new appliances.

They have a date to have flooring installed so we are on the push to get things completed.

Happy Palm Sunday! Easter is late this year and seem everything is following it's lead. Our spring has been wet (over five inches of rain in two days last week!), cold and long. We finally received a break this weekend and spent Saturday afternoon outside. The rain storms brought down some limbs so we had a large fire. Our neighbor also brought over his brush.

Now both of our yards are freshly mowed and looking so much better. It felt so good to be outside! My body might have said otherwise. I kept waking up Saturday night and my tired body was letting me know it wasn't happy. *smile* It seems to yell every spring and will settle down soon. I hope, anyway.

I had purchased five pounds of potatoes and when I went to use them the entire bag had spouted. Oh, I was not happy!  In my quest to not waste food I set them aside. I recently cut them up to get them ready to plant. I was able to get my potatoes planted this evening.

A new week is here and I'm ready for it!
