The Gun Club "Fire of Love" (1981)

I've known about The Gun Club for a few years now, but only started listening to them last night. I don't know why or how it came to this, but I'm totally impressed with this whole album. Blues-punk has always been one of my favorite styles, but the Gun Club were the real innovators with this genre. If you like the Cramps or the Pixies you will probably be as into this album as I am.

Mclusky "Mclusky Do Dallas" (2002)

Mclusky is a three piece alternative and noise rock band from Wales that broke up in 2005. This is some good shit right here. This is my favorite album of theirs with my favorite track probably being "Alan is a Cowboy Killer", but I feel like they're more well known for the opening track, "Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues". Coincidentally, this album was produced by Steve Albini. Loud fast ragey spiteful buzz saw rock.

The Intelligence "Fake Surfers" (2009)

I got this album last month and I've been rockin with it a lot since. Lo-fi post punk from Seatle. I just woke up and I'm feeling all spacey, but this is definitely a rad album. Check it out.

Discharge "Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing" (1982)

I just like the Wikipedia entry on this album to much to pass it up:
Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing was the 1982 album released by the British hardcore punk band Discharge, on Clay Records. Many critics at the time dismissed this album as "unmusical", though it is now considered both a classic of the era and the peak of Discharge's career. The guitar sound on the album is like a "wall of sound" of roaring buzzsaw-distortion. The vocals are shouted or screamed, rather than sung. The electric bass on the album is hard to hear distinctly; it is more like an indistinct rumble underneath the roar of guitar distortion and the clatter of the drums.

That pretty much describes the approach of the album, but barely remarks on the sheer fury this album unleashes. Again, this is an album I've been into for quite a long time.

Big Black "Songs About Fucking" (1987)

I'm just gonna keep posting these essentials up here for now. It feels like that kind of month for me. Bare essentials. Just passing along stuff that I've always loved.
This is Big Black's album Songs About Fucking. This is my favorite Big Black album and just like the Dead Boys and Agent Orange I've been listening to it a lot lately. This album will get right under your skin and crawl around. I promise you.

Agent Orange "Living In Darkness" (1981)

I have no idea why I haven't posted this album yet. It seems like Agent Orange have always been a mainstay in my music library and they always manage to find their way onto my playlists. It's more than nostalgia though, Agent Orange have been responsible for a good bit of my musical taste and I probably owe them for introducing me to surf punk. Whatever, I've loved this album since the eighth grade and if you don't have it you're probably missing out on one of the most influential punk bands to ever exist.

Dead Boys "Young, Loud and Snotty" (1977)

I've been listening to this album quite a bit lately. You can't really go wrong with anything Stiv Bators was ever apart of. Dead Boys have their style and it's pretty infectious. Cheetah Chrome's riffs make this album what it is: bad ass. Punk in its raw raucous prime. If the opening track of this album doesn't rock your face, you don't have a pulse.

Magrudergrind "S/T" (2009)

The Magrudergrind self-titled LP was released just last year and fucking rules. If you're into mayhem and powerviolence/grindcore this might be right up your alley. Some days you just want to destroy everything in your path and this is your soundtrack. Turn it all the way up and piss off your parents. Nobody will understand your thirst for grind and fuck them you don't want them to. "THIS IS JUST NOISE!" they will say, and you will just raise your fist and throb your head. When it comes down to it, grindcore is the only music that matters. It's pure and aggressive. You can't escape it.
