thanksgiving table setting

thanksgiving table setting

Microwave safe dinnerware / CB2 table linens placemat / Stripe placemat / Drinkware / Drinkware / Capri Blue handmade home decor

It's that time again when we get down to the nitty gritty of Thanksgiving planning. Making grocery lists, wading through the crowds at the stores, inevitably realizing you forgot something after you get home. Oh well at least you have setting a pretty table to look forward to if you like that kind of stuff like me. We're keeping things really small this year but that doesn't mean it can't be special. If I could set a dream table it might look something like this.

pinsperation thursday on friday

It's Friday, I can't believe it! I'm also officially full term today with this sweet baby. I can't believe how fast this pregnancy has gone. It was like scary fast and a bit more challenging than I had anticipated. My first pregnancy was a breeze physically. I was fat, happy, and jolly. I sat behind a desk at my job all day and dreamed and planned for our first little one. This time I'm 20 lbs lighter than I was at this point with L- she is seriously the only work out routine anyone needs, this toddler never stops moving. Not that I'm complaining about the lack extra lbs this time but she tires me out. But on a more serious level I'm having awful problems with my sciatic nerve. The first time I had an episode was back around Thanksgiving. It took me by total surprise but thankfully it subsided for a while. Lately though it's come back fast and furious. Yesterday was by far the worst. I went to go put a movie in for Lucy when all of a sudden my right leg totally gave out and it was PAINFUL. I was literally "stuck" clinging to the buffet our television sits on for nearly 20 minutes. I didn't know what to do and Lucy just sort of stared at me. I finally got her to help bring me a chair that's on little caster wheels so I could wheel my way over to the couch with my good leg. It was both comical and awful all at the same time. I went to my regularly scheduled weekly ob visit and she gave a steroid to try so hopefully that will get me a little more "functional" as she put it. It was great to talk to her because she told me she once got "stuck" at her kitchen table. It made me feel better to talk to someone who got what I was going through. Anyways I hadn't really intended on sharing all that but I figure if I disappear for a bit you guys will know why.

This weeks picks are little of this and a little of that.

love this entry. it's tall, old, and oh so charming!

i've had this photo sitting on my desktop for months. i'm determined to replicate it for L this summer.

loving this blue wall color and grey tufted headboard for a teen room. so pretty.

oh that headboard and light blue blanket- perfect!

the farmhouse sink and silver bridge faucet i'll never get over, just so classic.

the perfect mudroom- although mine would have to have some baskets for storage.

the fridge of my dreams. i'm still trying to figure out why they make the freezers on standard models half the size of the fridge side? We have a side-by-side and I'd make way more meals ahead of time to freeze  if I had more room to put them.

as always you can find the links to these and more right *here*

I hope everyone has a beautiful weekend!!!

thrifty find

On a recent trip to Goodwill I came across this giant gold mirror with pretty curvy lines. Now I've noticed lately that the Goodwill by my house has a nasty habit of marking up mirrors to a premium but I decided it was worth the effort to move a few things out of the way and look for a price on the back. The tag read $15.99, ok I'm listening... any cracks or scratches to the glass? Nope. Frame in good shape? Yup. Even better I saw that the back panel was screwed on as opposed to glued or taped so I knew it would be easy disassemble and paint the frame. Of course I had no idea where I would put it but since I'm a total furniture hoarder (you should see our garage) that didn't matter.

Unfortunately I didn't have the forethought to take a before picture but just imagine it in a brushed gold color with little black splatters. I sprayed the frame with KILZ primer spray paint and then painted it white and added a little glaze to bring out some definition- all supplies we had hanging out in the garage already. It ended up finding a new home in our foyer and is almost 3 x's the size of the old mirror that preceded it. We can't believe the difference in light and airiness it brings!

and just to keep it real, we may be shoe hoarders too...

I'm pretty happy about how it turned out and for $15.99 if we grow tired of it down the road we don't have to feel bad about changing things up.

Hope you guys are having a great week, I can't believe it's almost Friday. I'll do a Pinspiration Friday tomorrow because to be totally honest I spaced it today. Oh well, such is life. =)

pinsperation thursday

Welcome to "Pinsperation Thursday!" Every day I question how I survived without Pinterest in my life until last summer? I wish I could get a do over in college just so I could have this amazing website at my disposal for inspiration. It get's my creative juices  flowing every morning and brings out the artist in me that seemed dormant for a couple of years. It makes me want to pick up a paint brush or break out a glue gun. SO with all that praise said I know it's been a while since we've had a Pinsperation Thursday but I think I'll bring it back for now every week. Hope you enjoy what's been inspiring me lately!

This chippy blue buffet is just what I'd like so serve off of.

A sweet little blue felt crown- Lucy would love this!

I may need to take a cake decorating course in the future. It would be nice to learn how to replicate this sweet ruffle cake.

This space has the perfect touch of warmth and contrast for me!

A welcoming entrance.

It's obvious that this kitchen is out of this world, that french blue stove is magnifique!

I really dig the lighting in this dining space and did you notice the skylight?!

Since college I've dreamed of having my own set of flat file drawers, these blue ones are perfection!

You can find these images and many more *here* on my pinterest page.

Hope you have a beautiful Thursday!!!

light with dark

I've been really drawn to mostly light interiors with pops of dark and/or natural elements lately. There is just something about the little hits of warmth that make me able to justify such a light interior with out it feeling stark and cold.

Have beautiful Thursday!

1, 2, 3, 4...

I've been stuck on closets lately. It seems like no matter where we live the closet is always one of the things we end up compromising. This house was no different. We do have his and hers this time which I tried really hard to respect but he had so much unused space that I couldn't let go to waste. There is room to add on someday so until then a girl can dream

ramblings

It's smellin' like chili up in here. God I love slow cookers. They're so magical.

We spent the weekend giving up our last spare room to make way for baby. This is a challenge for Nick and I as we've never had a house (with the exception of our first apartment) where we haven't had a spare room for overflow - a dumping ground if you will. It's good for us I guess, it's forcing me to sell off a ton of stuff on Ebay to make room. I never knew I had so many dang linens. And why is it the linen closet is always the tiniest one in the house but it's responsible for holding all of the towels, seasonal bedding for multiple bedrooms etc..? Oh to design a house, I would make sure it has a kick-ass linen closet and at least two microwaves in the kitchen.

Do you know what's coming up? September! I declare September 1st the official day to begin fall decorating. I can't wait. I've even caught myself online Christmas window shopping for Nick and Lucy. Oh Monday you were good to me- Thank You!

katharine hepburn connecticut home 4 sale

I ran across these photos of the late Katherine Hepburn's Connecticut home and I almost fell over as I was looking at each one. Talk about timeless, classic, beautiful decor. There isn't a thing I would change about any of it. It's just stunning but I wouldn't expect anything less I suppose. Happy Wednesday!
