2012 Mecha Contest Entry: Legend Gundam Part 9

Hey peeps.. I am terribly sorry for my lack of update ..... Why no update u ask?? well, this should explains it - A Modeller's Innovation: Why The Bird Has been InActive lately

Well, For what its worth, I have an update for all my comrades, seniors and juniors.... had to squeeze what amout of free time I have to steadily push forward to the completion of this kit ...
When I left off, I left off right where I was building the back pack yes? So lets just start from there - I made up a mock up for you guys last time, which is this -

so, I now have to start making up the dragoons attachment binders. This was done by first, stacking plates like so -

And after brain-storming and digging into two of my spare parts boxes - I achieved this

The little black thingys are from the original backpack, cut off from the round thingy and closed on the sides with some plates. The yellow part is from my FG Kyrios ... and the little angled parts is the knee armor of my HG S gundam .
If you look to the right, you will see a rod (sprue) sticking out... That is put in there so that I can attach the binders into my main backpack -Which are these two-

As you see, I already demonstrated there where those runners will go.. And then, I made some vents for those two parts and glue it on -

The binders are put on to see if there is any restriction of movement ....and once put together, they can do this -

And if it is not being used, they can be folded back and stored like this -

Now I really love this one as I really hated the overly large round original back pack.. but this, me likey.. (LOL)..
And I never liked the original gun.. its too long and just too cumbersome...  so I made a better version ... Still in progress though-

And as you all know, when it comes to detailing, I suck, so I tried my best to do what I can for the details -

I asked my friends around and they said I there is already enough plates and that I should start putting in panel lines .. SO here it is -

I also put some on the feet as well -

and some on the thighs ( I REALLY NEED TO DO MORE CLEAN UP ON THE THIGHS ''sigh '' )

Following up on the head with my usual way of covering up seams-

I was looking around and I found the shoulder flap ''bare'' so I decided to put some bits and bots there -

AND this is how it looks now in its primed stage-

I only have to do MORE( a lot MORE) clean up and add details and bits and bots and we are done... ( I think)..

AND I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT I AM AWARE OF THE CLEAN UPS

I'm sorry I can't do any more ''big'' update ... Im not rushing but Im kinda running on fumes on this one so these would be all the major works on this...
As usual, thank to you all for the support and reading.....

2012 Mecha Contest Entry: Legend Gundam Part 8

Yosha ... The Bird is back.... I am sorry guys ... Life just wasn't kind on me .. LOL .. but that won't stop me from modeling... not only just life, I was focusing on the Gold frame and the Xbone that I didn't work on this ... I kinda need a break from ''Amaimon'' as well,, as you all know, modding takes its toll on the mind and body, but now, I'm back ...

Right... lets get cracking shell we??
First, I draw some panel lines on the back skirts -

It looked so plain and I didn't put on that big a piece of platings so I decided to go through with panel lines

did the same thing for the front skirts but since the front skits have bigger pieces of plates, I just went through with small panel lines -

I'm pretty happy with that much amount of details on it.. I don't want to go ever board ...
Also, I fixed the feet. I didn't like how it initially looked
As you can see from the photo -

I further extended the toes and made the toes wider and with some step-ish effect just for appearance sake ... I like it though.. kinda unique ...

I big the toe bigger and thus, I can't leave the heel alone... So I increased the side-to-side width only by a fraction and put in some very small amount of detail platings at the back of the heel-

Also, I was working on the feet and this hit me, the ankle is so poorly engineered that there is a huge gap once the ankle flaps are up. I was like UGH ..
So I decided to build this -

and this is the out come and WHY I made such a thing -

Now, even with the feet folding back, and the ankle flap open, it would be so ugly, and also, it will make the ankle more blended in, like a MG or a better engineered kit

Next, I put in some details in the holes I made on the lower leg...
You see, it was just an ugly hole when the the knee is bent and I was like '' UGH'' and I figured that has got to do.. so I decided to put in some vent-ish looking, mechanical looking part and here it is -

Now, as you can see from the lower photo, there is no more gaping hole when the knee is bent....

Next up, I was looking up the arm and I figured the front of the Bicep could use some details so I did this -

That's that for the arm, Im happy.. I still need to finish the shoulders though ...

I forgot ... I also made this -
Both Harry and Thelmos pointed out this and I had to fix this -

after that, I started forming the knee armour by closing the parts -

What's next is the start of the what Thelmosengine have been nagging me to update..... the Backpack ..

BEAR in MIND all of these are still in their infancy .. I still have so much to work on them ..

if you could recall, I cut up the back pack like so -

and I cut the boosters part further and I got this -

The big plates are glued on because there is a big gaping hole on those sides after cutting it away from the main backpack.
The black parts are scavenged from the 1/144 HG Bushido .. You all know how I feel about HGs .. anyway, those are the thigh parts from it
The Rod is meant to be some details like a pipe or something ... I will further detail it later on ....

Next, I made this... An adapter for the two boosters to attach to -

and yes, IT looks messy because I haven't finished it yet ..any way, that adapter allows the boosters to be like this -

Im still figuring out where exactly and How exactly ( as in, distance with the both, the angle and what not) to attach that adapter But this is test fit for all of you to see -

I think I might just go ahead and just glue it on to where I test fitted... Im not sure ... thinking thinking .. .

And here is another mock up of how the big dragoon will be placed -

I am trying to work out the final mechanic of how the small dragoons will attach to but I can at least say this, it will have an appearance similar to the Hi-nu BUT ( and a big but) it will be able to rotate all around so that the dragoons can be used to shoot at the enemy in a massive bombardment of beams, just like how the original backpack was intended.

Well, that's about it for today. Hope I do not disappoint you guys. If I did, I do apologize. I will make sure the next one won't be soo disappointing.
Please stay tuned for more and Thank you so much for reading, as always.

2012 Mecha Contest Entry: Legend Gundam Part 7

Hello ladies (if there are any) and gents .... Here is an update to the legend

first of all, I would like to apologize for my lack of updates on this baby as I have hit a wall with that back pack, not mention busy finishing this - http://modeller-innovation.blogspot.com/2012/02/trumpeter-135-c1-ariete-mbt.html ... now, I can restart on the legend .....

Lets start with the detail-platings I made here and there -
I put on some weird shaped platings around the forearms

I kinda like it ... I purposely made them asymmetrical on the outsides and insides of the forearms... you could say to make it more uniquely my own version, you know ...

And I plated the upper arm like so -

This is the out side of both arms ... the front, back, and the inner sides of both upper arm are still untouched though but I will come back to it

And I made this little thing which I learned from GondorDestiny of Plamo... Again, I thank you Gondor as you have been very very influential in this WIP ...

The picture would say everything, there was a big big gap when the arm is bent and I had to cover it ..... and I also extended the arms by 1.5mm. The extension of the arms really make the whole proportions pop ...

and Also, I thicken the lower torso, ( the waist area) with 1.0mm all around and a little bit at a angle so that the whole torso won't look so out of proportions ....

And this is how it looks with extended arms and thicken waist -

I LOVE it ... personally, the thickening of the waist and the extension of the arms were good move ...

Moving on, I also made a small amount of detail works on the shoulders -

I plan to put more on there but for the life of me,I can't think of anything else apart from Panel lines.... oh well, it will come to me, eventually

And I also put on some platings on the back skirts .. Trouble is - I don't know if that is enough platings or should I plate more?? hmm.. decisions, decisions ...

And I told you that I had hit a wall with the back pack, yes ?? well, not any more and here is what I did with the back pack -
Don't forget these are still initial steps -
I cut off three portions of the Back pack

and I also cut off those parts from the round thingy .. I really hate that Round part -

You are gonna see a completely different backpack on the legend ... nothing too great, but nothing too simple... just right .. mua haha .. LOL. just joking ...

Well, that's about it ... Oh, one more thing ....... Its name is ''' Amaimon ''' .... I was watching Aoi No Exorcist and it hit me ... ''' Amaimon ''' .... I love the name ... :P

I'm sorry as this is not a big update but with some rather dull platings and do forgive me if I snuffed out your expectations with these dull stuffs-
Until next post ..... Stay Tuned for more

2012 Mecha Contest Entry: Legend Gundam Part 4

Hello peeps. Welcome to another update from the hummingbird. Lets continue with the Legend, shall we??

Right... the first thing I did was I extended both the length and width of all skirts ...

Here is the front and the back skirts

For the side skirts, It was rather tricky as I had to compensate for the dragoons on there ...

So the first thing I did was cut out those long plates which will be used as the base

After that, I cut up more ''Follow up'' pieces which will form part of the upper surface of the side skirts

When combined together, they turn into something like this

I also glued a plate under each skirts (front and back) to in preparation for what I'm about to do next

After that, Spent 16 hours designing and cuttings those babies .. although these designs are identical copies, I have to admit and give credit to GondorDestiny of Plamo for inspiring me and motivate with to work on those .. Thank you GondorDestiny

Moving on , this is the inner details of the front -

And this is the inner details of the back -

And this the inner details of the side skirts -

And after spending so many hours, I finally got this (this is the front and back) -

and these are the sides -

And I decided to put on some tiny details ... will scribe some lines later

I also Built a little extension to the back

This is the lower part of the extension .. I will do something about the hole.. Maybe some vents or something... We'll see

Coming next, I filled the inner part of the shoulder with Milliput ( in case you guys don't know what it is, its a two part epoxy putty) so that I can make a MG shoulder

After that, I need to drill holes so that the shoulder flap can be inserted ...
and lessons learned from the Nataku, I made sure I didn't mess up the flaps this time ....
Back then, I messed it up by the rod not aligning correctly...  So in order to avoid that, I had to take some long way around ..

First, I make 4 identical pieces with the hole in the exact same place

The reason being that once those pieces are glued ( temporarily ) like so on to the shoulders ,

I can just drill slots/holes down the putties of the inner shoulders  ( guided by those PS templates) and it will come out nice and tidy, without fear of the flap being ''off''
like so -

The shoulders are still in their very early stage but more work will be done on them, I promise you.
I hope I don't bore you guys out with the excessive details and pictures and explanations ...

You have been a great audience. Stay Tuned for more.
