A Bipolar Post Worth Reading

I’m still in Hawaii, and don’t have too much time online for blogging, but I want to point you to a post by Sophia, We Bipolars, on bipolar disorder and her spiritual journey. (Sophia, I also promoted your post to Bipolar_Blogs on Twitter.)

  1. Sophia Says:

Wow, thanks, Lynn. I didn’t know how well it would translate outside my strong theological/spiritual perspective, and will be interested to see if I get any comments outside of my usual little RevGal circle.

I didn’t mention it there but I have been reflecting a lot recently on my renewed belief that both Augustine of Hippo and Gertrud of Helfta lived with bipolar disorder, which is one reason I have found my story in theirs as well as studying them academically. It was quite poignant and beautifully timed to travel to a conference this past weekend–and give a paper on Gertrud’s conversion, textually modelled on Augustine’s, from a proud and spiritually empty scholar to a humble and prayerful one using her gifts in loving interdependence with her community!

Have lots of fun in the islands.
