Avery Update

Hey there everydog. I haven't posted in about a million years, so I'm sure you all thought I dropped off the face of the Earth. I'm still here, and I'm doing great. Mom feels bad about not helping me blog, but she's been super busy and didn't have the energy to type for me. I have so much news to share!

Where should I start?

Lewis and Clark the kittens stayed with us for a few weeks while Mom looked for a good home for them. Luckily, Mom's very good friend and her husband decided to adopt them. Mom and Dad were so relieved, because they'd really fallen in love with the little guys and were sad about the idea of giving them to someone they didn't know! So now they can visit them and see how they're doing. They've been renamed Batman and Robin by their new parents and they are doing great. It was a very happy ending for everyone.


A few of you have asked what was in the package that was on it's way to me so many months ago. It was a brand new bed for me! It came from Mammoth beds, which Mom says is really affordable compared to other big dog beds. It's got memory foam in it, so it's really comfy and cushy on my joints. And now for my biggest news....
I'm going to be a big brother!!!! Mom and Dad are having a puppy, er, baby! This is partly why mom has been so busy and so tired. She told me she's about 21 weeks along and that means we're halfway through the wait for my new brother/sister (they aren't finding out whether it's a boy or girl). He/she is due to arrive around May 31st. Mom's been doing really well. She's had a very easy pregnancy (no morning sickness, whatever that is), but she did go through several weeks of feeling totally exhausted all the time. I tried to take good care of her though. The only thing that I haven't liked so much is that she doesn't rough house with me as much. She used to spend a lot of time with me on the floor playing, letting me sit on her, and snuggling with me. Now she's more protective of her belly, so she doesn't always let me sit on her. I forget how big I am and sometimes I plop down hard! That's their one and only concern about me when the baby comes. I forget what a big guy I am. But, since I'm such a totally awesome dog, they really aren't worried about how I'll do with the baby. They know they'll just have to watch us when we're together to make sure we're both okay.

I've missed you guys! I probably won't be able to post much, if at all, in the next few months. And of course after my new brother/sister is born Mom will be too busy to update my blog at all. Hopefully we can at least keep up with some of our doggie friends from time to time.

The Adventures of Lewis & Clark

It's been exciting times around here since my birthday post. I know some of you are wondering whether or not I received my mystery package. I did, but it'll have to wait till my next post. I can tell you that I really like it though!

So, what's all the excitement? Well...last week Mom and Dad and I were out taking a walk around our neighborhood and guess what we found?.............................KITTENS!

Some dumb human either dumped them or was just a heartless jerk who didn't do anything to take care of them. None of the neighbors knew where they came from, so Mom immediately scooped them up and brought them home to care for them until she can find them a home of their own. They are in our guest bedroom right now, which I'll have you know, is MY room when Mom and Dad go out. I now get to stay in their room when they're gone. Anyway, Mom decided to name the little guys Lewis and Clark since they seemed like little explorers out there in the world on their own. Also, she thought it was cute.

They are tiiiiiny! Mom took them to the vet the morning after she found them, and the vet said they are probably around 10 weeks old. They are both very healthy little boys, thank goodness, despite being totally covered in fleas and having roundworms. Those nasty parasites are all taken care of now. This picture kind of shows you how little they are. Mom's hand looks huge!

"I shall eat your hand!"

Mom has been trying to get a good picture of them together, but the little squirts haven't cooperated. This one's kind of cute though. Mom calls it "Kitty Yin Yang." They are chasing each other's tails in this picture.

They are super active babies and love to chase each other around and wrestle. They're also very affectionate. Mom walks into the room and they start up their little motors and purr up a storm. Can you tell she's getting attached? But, she says she can't get too attached because we can't really keep them. Mom says that having 5 cats and a dog would just be too much, although if reality weren't a factor they'd stay for sure. So, she's looking for a good home for them. If anybody knows anyone in the DFW area who'd like to adopt these guys, let us know! Mom's decided that they need to be adopted together, because they are such little buddies and do everything together. They play together, they snuggle up and sleep together, when one goes to the water bowl the other goes too, and I'm not even kidding, Mom's even seen them use the litter box together! She's trying to find a rescue group that will foster them or at least help with the adoption, but not surprisingly, they are all overburdened and can't help. One guy told Mom this is the worst year they've had in over 10 years in terms of the number of kittens needing homes. If only people would spay and neuter their pets!!!

I leave you with an adorable picture of me getting a look at the boys through a baby gate. They are still quarantined until Mom and the vet are sure they aren't carrying some kind of respiratory illness that could transfer to my sisters, but Mom let me take a peek at them just once.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Today was my birthday! Mom and Dad sang me the happy birthday song this morning when we woke up. In the afternoon Mom took me out to visit Petsmart. We didn't buy anything (Mom reminded me I got a new toy already and lots of goodies), but I just love going there so much because I always get lots of attention from employees and other customers. This time we visited the birdies and the guinea pigs too.

After Petsmart, we went to a local park for a walk. Look what we saw there!

I took a little rest by the water before we left for home. Mom was trying to get me to look at the camera, but I wasn't interested in posing. It was too hot!

Then I decided I'd rather sit on Mom than on the grass, so I moved over and plopped onto her and looked out at the pond.

When we got home from the park I supervised Mom while she made my birthday cake. It's a recipe from Dory and her mom. It's posted on the Bonezone in case any of you doggies want to try it.

Gotta check for any spills around the edge of the bowl.

While the cake was baking Mom and I went outside to play fetch. I also cooled off in my pool for a while.

Then Mom let me try out my birthday goodies. Check out all the yummies I got!

Don't worry, I didn't eat it all! Not that I wouldn't have tried, but Mom said I couldn't or I'd get an upset tummy. So, I had the cupcake cookie and a little bite of the freeze dried ice cream. I wasn't entirely sure about the Sam's Yams at first, but then I remembered...I LOVE ALL food, and it turned out to be very tasty. I didn't try any of the Bark Bar yet, but it's peanut butter and carob flavor, so it's got to be good.

After my cake was done baking Mom iced it with a cream cheese frosting (recipe also from Dory's mom), and she used peanut butter to pipe on lettering. Guess what I got to do when she was done? Mom piped peanut butter straight into my mouth! Is that great service or what?

Here's my cake! Mom said it turned out well, and she really liked the recipe. She cut little bone shapes out of carrot to decorate it.

Can I just have it already Dad? I've been waiting all day!

Unfortunately, I do not have any good pictures of me eating my cake. However, I did decide after a few licks that the best place to eat birthday cake is definitely in Mom's lap. I picked up the whole slice of cake they'd given me and promptly plopped down on Mom. Mom and Dad thought it was hilarious. I don't know why. I mean really, why sit on a cold, hard floor when there is a perfectly good lap available? Dad wasn't quick enough with the camera to get a good shot of me, although I did just sit there for a few moments with the giant hunk of cake in my mouth before chowing down. This is the best picture he got.

All in all, I'd say this was a totally pawsome birthday. Oh, I almost forgot! There is a mystery present on its way to me. Mom said she ordered it on the Internet and it's big, but that's all she'll tell me! Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Bad to the Bone?

Mom was just online looking at collars for me. She's been thinking about getting me a new one for my birthday (which, by the way is Wednesday!!!). She found this one at Earthdog. Guess what it's called? "Avery"!

Is it too badass for me? I'm not sure it fits my sweet personality. Here's a closer picture of it so you can see it better.

I think I'd have to get a leather coat and some of those Doggles with flames on them in order to wear this collar. I'd also have to work on my snarl and on developing an aloof and cool, yet dangerous air about me. Hmm, too much work. I think the one on the bottom left (the one that says "peace") is more my speed.

Playing Catch Up

Hellloooo Everydog! Long time, no blog. I know that some of you have been worried that I've been in jail this whole time. Fortunately, with the help of your legal arguments, all I got was probation and community service. My probation lasted, mmm, about 5 minutes and for community service Mom required that I do cute things the rest of the day for her amusement (like play with some toys, do a trick for a treat, sit on her lap). Obviously, that wasn't hard since it's part of my routine everyday.

Since I haven't posted in such a looong time, I thought I'd just do a little photo recap of the time since my last blog entry.

Here I am checking out the playground equipment in my neighborhood.

This is me at a party Mom and Dad had to celebrate her finishing her thesis. It was super fun, but after a couple of hours I was ready for a break from the action (although I made sure to take my break under the kitchen table so I could still see what was going on).

Mom made me some of that delicious doggie ice cream using the recipe from Nanook. It's sooo good!! Mom topped mine with a peanut butter cookie.

The next three pictures are from one of my walks with Mom on the greenbelt behind our house.

Look who visited my yard one afternoon! Can you see him? Mom wouldn't let me out until he was gone. Guess what? When she finally let me out, that bun decided to run back into my yard. Whoo hooo!!! It was so super exciting. Mom was worried I might actually catch Mr. Bun, but he was a quick little guy and ran under the fence.

I also got my own pool, which I have really enjoyed in this ridiculously hot weather.

What's summer without a little lazing around?

It's been a busy few weeks! And, guess what, Mom and Dad went out of town for a long weekend and I was stuck being boarded at the vet. Not that I mind that much. They love me there. But, I really don't get how they could leave me while they go on vacation! Especially since they went and stayed at a horse farm! Man, that would've been awesome, but Mom said they don't allow dogs. Whatever. Anyway, Mom just went and picked me up this morning. After she got me we went to Petsmart. It was a blast. I hadn't been there in a while, and as usual, I got lots of pats and attention from people. I had a really good time with two little humans in particular. Mom and I were in the toy aisle and they were there with their Mom. They gave me lots of petting and they kept bringing different toys over to show me. In fact, they picked one out that I just loved so much (and slobbered all over) that Mom decided to get it for me. Yay for little kids! They were awesome. I wish I could've brought them home with me too.

Mom said this is an early birthday present for me.
