I Wanna Go With Dignity

When punk started, The Only Ones were at the start and even had a hit with their debut album and Another Girl, Another Planet. The band was founded by Peter Perrett, who also fronted the band as guitarist and singer.

After the Only Ones broke up, he was only heard from sporadically as a guest musician in other bands, which may have been due to the fact that he was focusing more on drug use. I only became aware of him again when he released his first and good solo album in 2017.

Now, at the age of 72, he has released his third album The Cleansing. With 20 songs, the work seems very ambitious, but even with the help of Johnny Marr, he manages to deliver work on some tracks that is based on classic rock tracks and hardly gets boring. It looks like he is following in the footsteps of Johnny Cash, who is still on top form even in his old age.

48 Crash

Bildergebnis für suzi quatro

Peter Perrett announced his new album a few days ago and one song on this record is named 48 Crash. One of his songs on this record is called 48 Crash and me and The Swede thought about if this will be a cover version of Suzi Quatro's song. I don't know if this will be a cover version but I am sure if Peter will do this I will say chapeau to him because it needs a lot of courage to make a cover version of a monument of a glam rock masterpiece.

Once Is Enough

Bildergebnis für peter perrett once is enough

Peter Perrett, former mastermind of The Only Ones, returned 2017 with the fantastic album How The West Was Won featured at this place. It is one of those albums I come back from time to time. A few days ago he announced his upcoming album Humanworld and offered some new songs as an appetizer. As assumed he didn't changed his style. The songs are still based on his reduced guitar sound, melodic and lead by a voice that was trained in clubs and pubs. Not the worst way to start into Sunday.

Yesterday Stuttgart won 1:0 against Mönchengladbach after replacing the former manager with a younger one. The win was lucky enough because the guest team had a few great chances to make goals on their own. But I saw them fighting again and using their players on the wings. So the hope of reaching the relegation play-offs is still alive.

This Year In Music Pt. 3

Image result for year end list

The original plan of this list was to look back to albums that inspired me or were on heavy rotation at my place this year. Therefore I planned a series with six episodes showing this music in different categories. I also planned writing the post during my holidays until Christmas. As you know things happen and nothing is the same any more. So I finish this series with a little overview of some kind that was on my mind and most of lists are written by you mates.

Have a great start into 2018.

One of the best albums in 2017 were presented by veterans that appeared suddenly and unexpected. These albums found their way to my turntable and stayed there for long times. Best example was Michael Head and the Red Elastic Band. With Adios Senor Pussycat he appeared with a monument of an album filled with superb songs.

You can add Nick Heyward and  Mark Lanegan to this category and there are many songs to feature at this place (what happened during the year). But I have to name Peter Perret and Marc Almond right now.

Another category was reserved for guitar based bands. Mogwai, Spoon and The Horrors released great albums but I decided now to give Slowdive the place to appear once again. Not only for the return after almost 20 years in absence.

In retrospect these artists should be referred because they also released great and unique music this year:

Jane Weaver / The Afghan Wigs / The Charlatans / Algiers / Thurston Moore / A Tribe Called Quest / Jesus and Mary Jane / Richard Thompson / ...

How The West Was Won

Bildergebnis für peter perrett

The post's title has nothing to do with the REM and their song with the same title. It's more about history and present times. Most of you will know The Only Ones, one of the first bands that worked on the musical field of pub rock, power pop and punk. Their song Another Girl, Another Planet is still heard in my house. So I was surprised that Peter Perrett, former singer by The Only Ones, announced his first solo album after more than 35 years after the band disbanded. Back from his days in the twilight of heroin and crack he surprised me with this song. A sweet Jane-like riff decorated with a ghostly slide guitar opens the song and then Perrett sings with his nasal Souuh London drawl. He didn't lost his cynicism when these words come out The Indians and the Mexicans are the first to feel the rope. One of the best new songs during the last weeks.
