#9 Jim Davenport batted .297 with 14 HR and 58 RBI in 1962.

#40 Orlando Cepeda batted .306 with 35 HR and 114 RBI in 1962. He was the starting first baseman in the two All Star Games in 1962 (0 for 3 with an RBI in the first game and 0 for 1 with a BB in the second game). Cepeda batted .158 in 19 AB in the 1962 World Series.

#188 Chuck Hiller batted .276 in 161 games. Hiller batted .269 in 26 AB in the 1962 World Series.

Ernie Bowman batted .190 in 42 AB in 1962. 

#390 Orlando Cepeda All Star. Cepeda was an NL All Star from 1959-1964 and again in 1967.

1960 Topps Giants - Part 3 (outfielders)

• Felipe Alou (#287) played LF in games when Orlando Cepeda played 1B and also spelled the other two starting outfielders (Willie Mays and Willie Kirkland). He batted .264 with 8 HR and 44 RBI in 322 at bats.

• Willie Mays (#200, #564, and #7) had his usual good season in 1960. He batted .319 with 29 HR and 103 RBI. Willie scored 107 runs and stole 25 bases. Mays was 3rd in NL MVP balloting. In the first All Star game Willie was 3-4 with a double, triple and a run scored. In the second All Star game Mays was also 3-4 with a home run and a stolen base.
  
  

• Orlando Cepeda (#450) played 91 games in LF and 63 games at 1B. He played LF and was 0-1 in the first 1960 All Star game. He was 0-2 in the second All Star game. For the season Cepeda batted .297 with 24 HR and 96 RBI.
  
  
  
  
  
  

• Willie Kirkland (#172) started in RF. He batted .252 with 21 HR, 10 3B, and 65 RBI. The emergence of Felipe Alou made Kirkland expendable and he was traded to the Cleveland Indians with Johnny Antonelli for Harvey Kuenn after the season.

Today in Giants' History - September 24

1908 - Harry Pulliam upholds Hank O'Day's delayed decision and declares the previous day's controversial game between the Giants and Cubs a tie, a decision nobody likes. The Cubs demand the game be forfeited to them as the crowd prevented play from continuing, although darkness would have soon ended it. Both teams appeal. Pulliam sees no inconsistency with the September 4th incident that was similar to Merkle's Boner and claims he has merely upheld his umpire on a question of fact in each case. Meanwhile, the Giants beat the Cubs 5-4, after almost blowing a 5-0 lead. Hooks Wiltse is relieved by Christy Mathewson, and the official scorer awards the win to Matty. The loss goes to Three Finger Brown, his first loss to Mathewson since June 13, 1905.

1917 - At the Polo Grounds, Slim Sallee tops the Cards, 2 - 1, and clinches the N.L. pennant for the Giants, their 6th under John McGraw. The New Yorkers manage just four hits (and six walks) off Bill Doak, but they come when needed.

1936 - The Giants clinch the pennant, winning 2-1 in the 10th of the opening game of a doubleheader with the Boston Bees. P Hal Schumacher singles in the winning run.

1961 - At Cincinnati, the Giants stage a 9-run 4th to rip the Reds, 12 - 5. Orlando Cepeda hits his 45th homer of the year, a grand slam, to climax the frame. Cepeda will hit one more home run this year and finish with 39 walks, the first National League player with more than 40 homers and fewer than 40 walks. Hal Trosky has done it in the American League.
