Top ten Bulgarian historical sights...

Many of my friends from abroad and all these guys I want to befriend at social sites like facebook, sodahead, etc. know little of my native country, Bulgaria and my people. Probably that's why they are usually frustrated to realize a person from a far away, unknown country would like to connect with them. Their frustration's origin is in the fact that many of my compatriots ask for money and try many cunning ways to cheat and steal stuff... Yet, it doesn't mean all the Bulgarians are the same mean and horrible cheaters :), my many foreign friends already know that, I guess. Actually, when foreigners learn a bit more about Bulgaria, they begin to like Bulgarians too, with all their good and bad sides. To show some of the beauty of my country, I couldn't refrain from sharing an article of mine I wrote for a e-magazine, during my probation there, hope everyone will enjoy it:

some jokes for the beginning of May ;)

Via Bill Koller: An old, blind cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake.
He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels .
After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?'
The bar immediately falls absolutely silent.
In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says,
'Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair, Given that you are blind, that you should know five things:
1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.
2. The bouncer is a blonde girl.
3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate.
4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight lifter.
5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.
Now, think about it seriously, Cowboy. Do you still wanna tell that blonde joke?'
The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters, 'No ... not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times.

New thief prisoner enters in his cell: “Why you put these bars on the windows?” the thief asks the warder. “Because of security…” answers the wader. “You are insane! Who will try to enter and steal something from the prison???

Via Mari Eta: Preparing for a hunt, a father took his son's cigarettes... Until afternoon, he had already shot a dragon, 3 mermaids and 2 trolls...

Plus a new thought from a book of mine: If we don't forget that the common & ordinary could be much more amazing, funnier or fantastic than the incredible dreams, then we won't be able to find out the real fantasy. My A Writer's Adventures.

Tourist fair!

If there are a few places where many corners of the world meet, then tourist fairs are one of them. Usually, in every country most of the representatives of tourist companies come from the neighbour nations, yet that's not written on stone. There always are some tourist agents from different continents too, and that makes the fairs even more interesting and magnificent.
Of course, these tourist events are totally different in the different countries. They are much more spectacular in the more developed places and respectively humbler in the ex-communist or so called third-world members. Yet, in every country there are some interesting sights and customs to be seen, so every tourist fair has its
merits. Bulgaria, my native country, is no exception and even for me it's always intriguing and exciting to have a look at the annual fair in our capital, Sofia.
Unfortunately, probably because of the world financial crisis, the tourist business is in recession to some extent and this year the fair was not so splendid as it had been in the past. Of course, it doesn’t mean
today it’s not worth having a good look at all the stands, beautiful brochures, good tourist offers, etc.
Every year one could see a lot of new, incredible views, places, resorts and cities or villages in the many brochures and booklets the companies give for free. Every year any visitor could be a participant in many raffles for free, exotic excursions, or receive a good discount for some of the touristic packages and become a proud owner of some useful and peculiar souvenirs (like cool ball-point pens, luggage handle holders, book marks, etc). A part of the wonderful touristic fair experience is also the opportunity to taste some exotic drinks and meals, some of which are made by the same recepies our ancient predecessors used.
No one should forget touristic fairs are the places where we could even learn and see a lot of new and unseen facts, views and customs of our own countries. Then, I bet everyone could remember and realize what a beauty and great events could be hidden in the lands where we were born. The last touristic fair in Sofia, Bulgaria was no exception and I made some good photos of Bulgarian kukeri masks (of the kind I’d never seen before), or of some famous, ancient sights. I couldn’t also refrain from promissing to some Bulgarian tourist agents to show their magnificent cities, villages and the still more amazing nature around. Many foreign tourists would appreciate their beauty, so if you plan to visit an exotic country like Bulgaria, here are some of the sites and links you should know about:
There are some really good touristic programs many people would like to join. Of course, even if it is a small country, Bulgaria is an ancient one too (more than 1300 years old) and has interesting history, plus many other amazing sights and places to be seen. That’s why I plan to post some other information and photos about them in some of my future posts, so stay tuned :).

The Dark Path, by Luke Romyn – a breath-taking story about a modern Apocalypse, the most horrible ancient cult, the deadliest assassin and the kindest “light bearer”.

Some people say: Bad luck often brings good luck, or: Only a thief could catch a thief, others that only light could destroy darkness… Yet, Luke Romyn’s book is certain prove about the truth in both sentences.
The modern story about the saving of a new messiah from an ancient and disgusting cult contains so many vivid descriptions of horrible killings, bloody scenes of mafia and assassins’ wars, hatred and will to destroy all the sacred and kind in life, that many readers would definetly have nightmares after turning over some of the pages. Many of them will be convinced that only the evil deeds would deal with the dreadful way of the murderers and their bosses to earn their living and satisfy their striving for power. Evil is the best tool against the horrors done by any bad characters and kings of the crime realm, they would say, pointing out that the most dreadful assasin was the one who actually saved the young messiah from his inevitable doom. Others would remember the glorious power of the good intentions, triumphing over the most powerful weapon of Satan and would claim there’s nothing that could beat the kind thoughts and wise decisions...
The breath-taking adventures of the messiah-kid and his protector, the ex-good cop and present dreadful assasin, are described by an excellent style. Usually, stories written in English have to contain short sentences, dividing those with more words to a couple of separate lines. Yet, that way the style changes and the events and thoughts described by an author become something different… Luke Romyn’s writing, however, has long enough sentences with all the necessary adjectives, verbs, descriptions, etc. to make his story more breath-taking, interesting, and even with some touch of the ancient fairy-tales, according to my opinion. His imagination is as good as his writing skills and I guess everyone would enjoy all the adventures of the main characters, trying to escape the dreadful chasers of the most evil cult and their many cunning traps.
However, The Dark Path is not just a new story about merciless killings and evil, religious fanatics’s plans. Amongst all the bloody scenes and supernatural creatures, the author included some amazing philosophy, revealing the importance to do good and what the world would look like with a real balance between all the nations. Because of the author’s way to reveal his thoughts and imagination, many, if not all, of the non-believers would reconsider their attitude towards Bible and religious teachings at the end of the book. I guess that, together with the great writing style, would make those who don’t like to read and prefer to watch movies based on books instead to become better book lovers. Besides, reading the story, everyone would discover the great experience to „see” and „feel” such details which could be hard to notice watching a movie, no matter what good special effects its creators included. The description of hell, for example, is so vivid and horribly awesome that it could send cold shivers even down the spines of the toughest readers and horror genre’s fans. For some others, it could turn out to be a mirror for their deepest and most dreadful fears… I guess a hell where the devil’s a woman could surpass the wildest fantasies or nightmares…
Despite the author’s breath-taking way to put to words the gripping adventures of his characters, some book-lovers would admit The Dark Path is naïve at some moments (though I would say that’s a part of its beauty too, aren’t we all at least a bit tired of all the “meaningful” reality?). They would probably add that the end is too sudden and incomplete (and that’s the only thing in the book I don’t like too), yet it seems it’s just the author’s way to make the “passage” to his next stories smooth enough…
No matter how good Luke Romyn is at describing horrors and ever-lasting philosophy, his skills in humour and jokes are amazing too. His facebook page and site are full of evidences for that: https://www.facebook.com/luke.romyn?fref=ts. Though the author prefers to write dreadful mysteries like The Dark Path, I guess if more people ask him to combine his funny thoughts in a story or two (or include them in some of his other works), he would create some new, even more amazing books, with a perfect balance between fun and seriousness. Good luck in the future, my fb friend, Luke Romyn! Let the wonderful noise of the sea always sounds in your ears! (as my water dragons' hunters would greet).

weekend jokes ...;)

Via Rose Smith: Two rednecks were looking at a
Sears catalog and admiring the models. One says to the other,
'Have you seen the beautiful girls in this catalog?'
The second one replies, 'Yes, they are very beautiful.
And look at the price!'

The first one says, with wide eyes, 'Wow, they aren't very expensive.
At this price, I'm buying one.'
The second one smiles and pats him on the back.
'Good idea! Order one and if she's as beautiful
as she is in the catalog, I will get one too.'

Three weeks later,
the youngest redneck asks his friend,
'Did you ever receive the girl you ordered
from the Sears catalog?'

The second redneck replies......
'No, but it shouldn't be long now.
I got her clothes yesterday!'
Between sportsmen: "Why you didn't take your 1st place when you had to receive your medal after you won the competition?" "I'm afraid of heights..."
What is the expression sharks love to hear from us, people? "Man over board..."
And my crazy quote/thought from a book of mine: Looking at the ground could be the best way to find the best things from the sky.... my Space Hide & Seek/Space Ghosts.

jokes after the middle of the week and before the weekend...;)

"We threw a lot of eggs at the politicians at the yesterday's meeting..."
"But I've heard there were a lot of applause?"
"That was only when the eggs hit them..."

When they asked some teachers to name three reasons why they like their job, they all answered: "June, July and August..."

"Now what's your excuse?" asked a teacher a schoolboy who was late for school again.
"I saw a lady who lost 100 $..."
"Oh, and you helped her to find them?"
"Not exactly... I stepped and stood on them until she left..."

What is trash for some people, maybe gold for others... from my future Incredible Future :). Have a nice rest of the week, everyone!

The good way to make even the worst horror movies valuable.

I know I already wrote and posted a similar post about changing soap operas into something everyone would appreciate. Yet, I guess all the people and fans would agree there’s a huge difference between the long, modern love and treachery stories and the dreadful plots and creatures, criminals and monsters of the horror movies. Therefore, I’d say there should be a great difference too between the ways to make soap operas and motion pictures with too much blood and killings worthy of Oscars?
Actually, there’s also an enormous difference between the fans of these totally different kinds of movies. The guys who couldn’t live without the dreadful events of the horror stories are usually youngsters with uneasy and troubled minds (and good imagination), or future criminals and murderers, or not so young people with insane thoughts and desires. While the fans of the long (and meaningless according to many critics and common viewers) soap operas could be found mostly amongst down to earth housewives and their husbands and friends who above all appreciate family values and simple, everyday joys. Modern love sagas’ men and women would never kill or torture someone for the pure joy of such an awful act, unless their life or the life of their kin and friends are endangered. They would never go to a school or other public place with a loaded gun and a lot of ammunition to send to heaven or oblivion many innocent kids or men and women. Their thoughts would never lead to a mass murder just to “show and prove” the righteousness of an idea, or to make the world “a better place”… On the other hand, the horror movies’ fans would do any of these incredibly vicious deeds, and wouldn’t hide the fact the bloody “tips” they could see in their favourite motion pictures were their inspiration and mottos for their insane and disgusting deeds.
“Horror movies don’t create serial killers, they just give them ideas.” These were the words of a character from Psycho (the 1998 version), though many of the enemies of the bloody stories would say quite the opposite. As there are so dreadful horror movies that they could provoke desire for blood spilling and killings even in the most kind-hearted and non-violent spectators, I will always remember the interview of a mother who said that the main reason for her son to become an insane killer were the awful scenes from his favourite bloody motion pictures. Such madness should make us all want to welcome a law or rule that would forbid the creation of movies in which one could only see meaningless murders, cruel killings and lots of other disgusting activity. The horror moments in such motion pictures should be just hints; the rest should be some wise thoughts, some philosophy, some noble deeds… In other words, they should become a combination of genres, then, any movie fan would see the wisdom there, not the inspiration for insanity… Just for example, there are a lot of killings and horrible moments in The Lord Of the Rings too, yet as there is a lot of philosophy and wise thoughts, it became the movie of the year at the annual Oscars and wouldn’t be a movie which could inspire desire to end humans’ life…
I guess it is not the only way to make the horror movies valuable; many other people could give some even better ideas. But I bet anyone would agree to combine the horror with philosophy and wisdom and create a rule or law about that could be a good cause to drastically decrease the awful side effects of the bloody and deadly scenes.

Happy 1st March + some advice for flu healing + some jokes :)

Hapy 1st March, everyone! It's a very special date for every Bulgarian! On that day we give one another small souvenirs, Marchers, made of white and red threads, we Bulgarians pin them on our clothes for good luck and health or tie them on our wrists, then wear them until we see the 1st stork or the first blossom on a tree that gives fruit, then we hang them on that tree or put them under a stone, so that the good luck and health won't leave us troughout the year ;). This custom is so old, more old than 1300 years, can you believe that! It's older than the foundation of Bulgaria itself!
As I was sick with flu for a week, I couldn't refrain from re-posting some good advices for healing some of my facebook friends told me:

Mariya Doncheva Drink herbal tea with Maple Syrup (or brown sugar) and lemon a couple of slices !!! Eat hot chicken soup...with black pepper or red chilly at night and raw garlic or red onion for lunch!!!
Beverly Cialone Don't know if you drink alcohol, but there's a lot to be said for a "hot toddy"...a drink of liquor with honey and lemon added in...try it! In the meantime, hope you get to feeling better!
Mariya Doncheva And listen to favorite music ... while relaxing !!!
Beverly Cialone And follow the regular advice as well...plenty of rest, liquids (hot liquids help break up congestion--coffee, hot tea, etc), make sure to keep your electrolytes balanced to avoid dehydration if you've been having stomach issues...don't force yourself to eat if you're not hungry, although bland foods like plain toast, saltine crackers, applesauce, bananas, etc,. help if you're stomach is upset. So does ginger.

Hope the next jokes will make the weekend better for anyone :):
Two women are talking: "I don't want a man that's interested with my beauty, wealth, or state in society... I want one who's interested with my soul..."
"Then, you are looking for the devil, my dear...?"

A guide in an African country: "In this country, every tenth person is a cannibal..."
"What about the rest nine persons?"
"Well, they are very close to break the world record at running at long distances..."

"Did you start to open your your window while you sleep, as I suggested?" asks a doctor his patient.
"Oh, yes."
"Then, your asthma disappeared?"
"No, but my wallet, jewelry, credit cards did..."

And the quote from a future book of mine: There are things more important than life and death, beauty and ugliness, money and success, etc... One of them is called moral. my future Lake Mystery.
