Paul Oakenfold - DJ Boxes June & July - 2015

Here's a few DJ Boxes for you tonight.  Just some mind-numbing dance music, which is exactly what I need right now.

You know, when it rains it fucking pours in my fucking house.  I thought that by this time in my life, approaching 50 (in five years, I know) I would have sorted myself by now.  But, shit keeps stacking and life keeps piling and you feel like you're drowning and don't know which way is up.  I want to get in my car and start driving and keep driving until I run out of gas, then start walking and keep walking until my legs can't support me anymore.  I know running from my problems won't solve them, but that's all I feel that I can do.  What's bad, is they're fucking problems that have haunted me my entire fucking god-forsaken life.  If it weren't for the sake of my boys and my wife, I would have checked out a long time ago.  Sometimes, I just hate living.

Have a happy Friday.

Fluke - 1997 & Oakenfold - 2002

I'm getting ready to go to the annual Asian Food Festival being held at an arena here in town, so I'm going to make these quick and easy

Up first, at the peak of the Electronica craze of the late 90s, Fluke was a strong second-tier player in the field.  They had made some incredible remixes for some of my favorite artists, I enjoyed their Atom Bomb for Wipeout, so this album was a natural necessity.  It's pretty good.  But, it already pushes the 80minute CD envelope, an doesn't have any b-sides, and just a few mixes.  So, aside from the one additional mix, this is a straight up album release.  It's pretty cool...

A huge fan of Paul Oakenfold, I was pretty hyped when this one came out.  It remained entirely cool for me for about a year, but then tracks started to lose their coolness.  In the end, only a few of the tracks have really stood the test of time for me, but I look back on this one with a sense of fondness.  Ready Steady Go is an absolute rocker.  I always turn that one up.

Now, I'm off to sample some Asian cuisine.  Whether it be homecooking, street food or restaurant quality, I don't know, but I'm dying to find out.  I am working toward starting my own Food Truck with an Asian Street Food theme, so tonight is a definite necessity.  I am to the the point where all I need is the $$$ and I can open up.  I have the skills, knowledge, research and concept ready to go.  So, if you have about 75,000 you're willing to bet on my success, I'd love to take your money and try.....   Yeah I thought so.  ;)

Paul Oakenfold - DJ Boxes - March & September 2014

Well, it worked once, so we'll try it again.  easy out for me, I guess.  Just have to make the fancy covers for them.  The September 2014 was the first cover I made when I started doing the Oakenfold boxes.  I titled it after one of the songs on the disc, and realized that it made it harder to tell which months I had and which I didn't.  So, after that one disc, I made sure to title the rest of the boxes as their date.

You may also notice that the September cover has the same graphic as one of my Peter Gabriel compilations that I posted previously.  I love that graphic.  Also, I love the eyeball graphic on the March disc.  I still don't know how they did that pic....

Anyway, I love Oakenfold's selections.  He definitely has an ear for good music....

Paul Oakenfold - DJ Boxes - Unmixed

I know that this isn't really what my blog is about, but it's Friday, time to go have some fun and dance to something modern, energetic and exciting.  Paul Oakenfold has always been one of my favorite remixers, starting way back in he was mixing Shamen on En-tact.  His solo material is good as well.  But, his skills as a DJ are what people know most about him.

Every month (give or take) Paul releases his DJ box, to let people know what he's spinning at that time.  There is a lot of great material to be had on every disc.  Every once in a while, I'll throw a couple of these out there, as it gives me the opportunity to make my covers without any preconceived ideas of what they should look like.  It's all me and Photoshop, then.

Yeah, I know.  I phoned this one in.  Hope your not too disappointed....

So, here's two months of DJ Box.  Rip them, burn them and party on....
