First Week of School

So last week was my first week of school, and I can't say I'm more relieved. Usually summers make me just insanely bored... So by the time September rolls around, I'm dying to crack the books. This year, despite all my travels and fun, was no different!

The feeling of stepping back into that Sauder School of Business building and seeing all these people I recognize is simply amazing. It's like seeing long-lost family when I can't walk 2 steps down the hall without calling out for someone's name or someone calling me out, then standing there and catching up with them for a good 2 minutes. It's almost customary. And this ritual usually lasts for a good 2 more weeks before I finally get a chance to see everyone again and say hi.

My classes this year are incredibly well set up, if I do say so myself ^^. I've got Tuesdays and Thursdays off, with classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This basically allows me to save about 4 hours' of transportation time per week, and grants me well-needed time to study or read between the days to prepare for the next class.

Courses I totally loathe: GBiz and Comm Law. Boy I just... blegh. I can see how they would be useful later on, but seriously it's so bland that I want to throw up. The textbook and readers are just blocks of text filled with unheard-of terminology, or in the case of GBiz, economic nonsense. By that I mean things that would look brilliantly logical on paper or in theory, but has very little application in the real world. That's usually what Econ tends to be...

  1. Heh, our school schedules are actually the same. M/W/F/ on T/R off. I live on campus at my college, though, so you know... not saving myself any time there, just sleeping in on the weekends.

I definitely remember how great it felt seeing my classmates again after summer break when I was in grad school. They become like family, for sure!

  9. I came back to school in mid March, but the feeling is the same. It's great to catch up with all the people you know. Also when you start again, all the classes look exciting, thing that lasts 2 or 3 weeks tops hahaha

  10. I know that feeling. When school would break up for the summer it was an amazing feeling but as the weeks dragged on I honestly just wanted to return and see all of my friends again on a regular basis.

I can't say this sentiment was shared a few weeks after term had started up again though!

  14. I get to look forward to quitting my newfound construction job and headin' back to school come January.

I'm strangely not looking forward to it though, I just broke into the construction biz (been doing food production and factory work before this) and thus far it's been everything I thought it was going to be.

Just awesome, y'know? Hangin' out with a bunch of bros cracking wise, gettin' shit done, and just doin' work with no drama or anything.

BUT, Winter Quarter beckons, and I'm down for gettin' my degree.

  16. In a way, it's good the summer is over. During the summer, Mondays and Fridays were meaningless. Plus, I really didn't like weekends because that meant everyone was home. Also, I didn't know what time it was because I never wore my watch.
Hmm...now that I think about it, that's all a lie. I miss summer. June can't come soon enough. I'm starting to get a rash from where my watch is.

I agree with you on Econ, half of that stuff is either best-case scenarios or too idealistic to be applied in the real world.
