Palak Aloo Parathas, Spinach Potato Parathas

I have already posted spinach parathas and aloo/ potato parathas and this time, it's a  combination of both, Spinach Potato Parathas. Usually I would have added some mashed spinach and potato along with other spices directly to the flour while making the dough, but this time, I made the dough with the spinach puree and used the potato mixture as the stuffing. The parathas turned out really soft and delicious and we loved the combo of spinach and potatoes, serve them with a pickle or a chutney and some curd on the side..

Aloo Paneer Tikkis, Potato Cottage Cheese Patties

I had some paneer left after doing the usual Palak Paneer, it was a small quantity and not enough to make a dish with it alone, so I decided to add some potatoes with it and make these Aloo Paneer Tikkis, Potato Cottage Cheese Patties. I have also added some fresh methi ( fenugreek ) leaves to add some flavor to the tikkis. Tikkis can either be deep fried or shallow fried, I have shallow fried these tikkis. They turned out super delicious, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and tasted great with coriander chutney, you can also serve them with some tomato sauce too..

Potato Curry In A Peanut-Curd Gravy

Today's dish is going to be another simple and delicious dish with potatoes, Potato Curry In A Peanut-Curd Gravy. I have made curries with a curd/yogurt base, but I liked the addition of coarsely pounded peanuts in the curry. While making the curry, I was thinking that this would also taste somewhat similar to the other curd based curries, but it tasted very different and delicious, might be because of the peanuts. The curry would go very well with rotis, naans or even with a pilaf..

Jowar Aloo Paratha, Jowar Potato Paratha

After a weekend of rich festival food, I am going to start of this week with a healthy paratha, Jowar Aloo Paratha. There's already an Aloo Paratha using wheat flour on the blog, but today's paratha is gluten free since we are using jowar/sorghum flavor for making them. Jowar flour dough is difficult to roll out, so stuffing them with the potato mixture and rolling out would become messy, so I have mixed in the potatoes with the dough and then made the parathas. The parathas turned out soft and delicious, serve them with some curd/raitha and pickle for a filling and healthy meal..

Bombay Potatoes, Potato Curry

When going through pins on Pinterest, I saw some pins for this curry Bombay Potatoes and had pinned them some time back. The name and the pictures were so attractive, but while checking the ingredient list, I didn't find anything special, just the regular ones that goes into a curry. I have used baby potatoes, but we can use the big ones, the curry is so very simple, but it was very flavorful and tasted so good. It's a semi-dry curry and would go well with both rice and dal or with rotis too,do give it a try, the next time you cook potatoes..

Onion And Potato Bajjis (Fritters)

Bajjis, it's one of the popular and easiest snack recipes, if it's raining or snowing outside and you are craving for some hot snack, then this is the first one that comes to the mind. I have done it so many times, but because it was mostly in the evenings, I couldn't take pictures and so it never made it to the blog. You can make bajjis with many vegetables, the most common ones used are plantain/ vazhakkai, onions and potatoes but you can make them with eggplant, capsicum and ridge gourd too and they pair so well with a hot cup of tea or coffee..

Ragda Patties, Aloo Tikki Chaat

Ragda Patties/Pattice, this is one of my favorite chaats, it's basically aloo tikkis/potato patties served with dried white peas gravy, topped with different chutneys, onions and sev. Like most of the chaat dishes, if we have the chutneys ( green and sweet ones ) then making Ragda Patties is not very difficult, we can even make the chutneys a couple of days ahead and refrigerate them. I have adapted the recipe from here, it turned out really good and we loved it..

Jackfruit Seeds Cutlet, Kathal Bij-Er Chop, Palakottai Cutlets

The next dish that I had tried this Jackfruit season are these Cutlets With Jackfruit Seeds, Palakottai Cutlets. It's actually a Bengali dish, called as Kathal Bij-Er Chop, we use mashed jackfruit seeds and potatoes along with other spices and crushed peanuts, shape them into cutlets and deep fry them, but I have shallow fried them to keep it a little healthy. These cutlets can be served as a snack along with some tomato sauce, but I am telling you, they tasted so good that we didn't need anything to go with it. You can also serve them as a side to go with any meal, do try this before the jackfruit season ends..

Gawar Aloo Subzi, Cluster Beans ( Kothavarangai ) Potato Curry

We use cluster beans/kothavarangai/gawar a lot in South Indian Cooking, we make poriyal, paruppu usili, in avials, dry them and use as vadams, but I have never really tried to do a side dish with it for rotis until recently. I have tasted it in subzis at a Gujarati friend's place and even in restaurants but when I tried it at home, I was not completely satisfied. Then I saw this recipe, it has both gawar/cluster beans and potato in it, the ajwain, peanut powder and coconut and other spices make it so flavorful and it goes very well with chappathis/rotis..

Roasted Potatoes With Parmesan And Herbs

Fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, potato curry, give us potatoes in any form, we like them at home, so then, when I made this Roasted Potatoes With Parmesan And Herbs, we simply loved it. The best thing about this recipe is, it's so simple, no need to even peel the potatoes, just mix them with the herbs and cheese and then everything is done in the oven. After about 45 minutes, the potatoes turn out crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the flavors from the herbs and cheese is awesome..

Curry Leaves Potato Curry, Karuveppilai Urulaikizhangu Curry

Curry Leaves Potato Curry, well as the name says, this curry has potatoes/urulaikizhangu and yes, lots of curry leaves/karuveppilai. Actually, I had tasted at a restaurant, a curry similar to this but made with mushrooms and I simply loved the flavors in the dish. Then, why did I make the curry with potatoes, because on that day, when I had a huge bunch of curry leaves, I didn't have mushrooms but a bag of baby potatoes. The curry, as such is a simple one, but it's bursting with flavors from the curry leaves, garlic, pepper and fennel seeds, well, those are the main ingredients here. It's a dry dish and it goes well as a side with both rice and rotis, do try it out if you like potatoes and curry leaves, I am sure you'll love it..

Dum Aloo With Coconut Milk- Vegan, No Onion And Garlic

When I was surfing the net for a recipe for green peas kachori ( stuffed puris ), I came across this version of Dum Aloo with Coconut Milk. I already have two versions of Dum Aloo/Aloor Dum on my blog, one using curd/yogurt and another simple version that I had served with another variety of Kachori, Radhaballabhi. This version does not have curd but it gets all its creaminess from the cashew and poppy seeds paste and the coconut milk. It tasted awesome with the green peas kachoris and of course it would go very well with any kind of rotis, naans or puris. I love onion and garlic and I think that they should be part of our daily diet but if someone is looking for a version of Dum Aloo without onion and garlic, then this is for them..

Potato Raitha, Urulaikizhangu Thayir Pachadi

Everytime, I made raitha/thayir pachadi, it was mostly cucumber or onion or tomato raitha or a combination of all these vegetables together. I have even made raitha with zucchini and pumpkin, but this is the first time I made this raitha with potatoes. Once the potatoes are boiled and peeled, the raitha can be put together in no time and can be served as a side to parathas, rotis, briyanis or pilafs..

Poori Urulaikizhangu Masala, Potato Curry

Poori Urulaikizhangu, whenever I make pooris ( which is not often ), this is the side dish that I make with it. Though we can serve pooris with chana masala and kurmas, in my house this is a favorite. This is an easy dish, the flavors are very simple and there is not much oil or cream or coconut in this dish, so it's light and delicious with the deep fried pooris..

Parwal ( Potol, Pointed Gourd ) And Potato Curry

Parwal/Potol/Pointed Gourd, we don't use it much in South Indian cooking, but I have seen it widely used in North Indian curries. I have already made Potol Posto, a Bengali dish with this vegetable, this is the second curry that I made with it. I have added some potatoes along with parwal and cooked them in a fresh masala paste, this curry would go very well as a side dish for rotis, naans and pilafs..

Potato And Eggplant Dry Sabzi

The past couple of weeks has been really hectic, travelling and weddings had kept me away from my blog, I have made only three posts this month. I had made some dishes, clicked pictures but didn't have the time to edit and do a post, neither could I visit other blogs, I think everything should fall back to routine by the end of this month. Coming back to today's dish, it's a semi-dry curry with potatoes and eggplant/ brinjal, I had made it along with Gujarati Khichdi and Kadhi. I have another dry curry with potatoes and eggplant here, but that has a South Indian flavor, whereas this curry is more along the lines of a Gujarati Shak, but a dry version. It is a very easy dish and tastes really good with the khichdi and kadhi and it would also go very well with some rotis or puris too..

Aloor Dum, Potato Curry

After seeing the combination of Kachoris and Aloor Dum ( popular Bengali dish ) in many blogs, I had wanted to try it, but kept putting it off for one reason or the other. And then, last week , I saw these kachoris with aloor dum in a cooking show, and I couldn't wait any longer to try it. I made Radhaballabhi kachoris ( obviously my next post ) along with Aloor Dum, though I made it as an evening snack, we can have this for a weekend breakfast or brunch. I already have a post for Dum Aloo in my blog, a very rich almond-yogurt based curry, but this one is a very simple dish, but very tasty in its own way and a perfect side dish for the kachoris. We just loved this curry and it would go very well even with regular pooris and rotis too..

Potato And Peanut Curry, Urulaikizhangu Verkadalai Curry

Couple of weeks back, I had bought about a kg of fresh raw peanuts, boiled them and then shelled them. Apart from eating them as such, I had used the boiled peanuts in cooking too, I used them in the Cabbage Briyani and also in this Potato Curry. It's once again a very simple curry that goes well with sambar rice or curd rice and I think it should go equally well with rotis too. I have also added some chopped mint leaves which gives a nice flavor to this delicious curry..

Potato And Lentils, Aloo Dal

On weekdays, when I pack lunch, and when it's rotis, I try to make some side dish that has some protein in it, usually by adding some dal/ lentils or some form of soy, so that it's filling and doesn't make you hungry very soon. Today's dish is one such, I have cooked moong dal along with potatoes, and I have added kasuri methi which gives the dal a nice flavor. This is so easy to make, you have to only dice the potatoes and tomatoes and the entire cooking can be done in the pressure pan. This dal goes very well with pilafs, rotis or even with dosas..

Potato And Capsicum Rice, Urulaikizhangu Kudaimilagai Saadam

Potato and Capsicum Rice, this again is a very easy and quick dish, it can be put together in a breeze, especially if you have some leftover rice from the previous day. It's a perfect lunch box idea for your busy weekdays, uses the basic ingredients from your pantry and of course, potatoes and capsicums. Just serve it with some raitha or curd and some chips on the side for a delicious meal..
