Painting Table #9 2017

This past week I got a decent amount done but not a lot. I finished off the barriers. Then I based and started to block in the colors for my MERC keizai waza. I decided to go with a non traditional scheme to make them more interesting.

More as I get it done.

Painting Table #8 2017

This post has been a bit delayed. Mainly because I have been painting and trying new things and every time I thought about writing a post I did the "after I finish this part" thing.

First, I painted the last of my frostgrave stuff, then I decided to do all the bases on all the stuff I painted recently. I tried the GW texture paint mourn mountain snow and see why many people are disappointed with it. I think it might be great for terrain were you can do small clumps of snow on ledges and stuff but for bases even if you really pile it on it still looks a bit weird.

Then, while touching up the minis, I accidentally put way to much paint on the pallet. But it was the right color for finishing off this stuff so I broke it out. I am now somewhere around 75% done them. I mainly need to do the black and then clean up some mistakes and they will be done.

But that's not all. It's not really painting table but it is model related. I broke out my copy of MERCS Recon: assassination protocol and gave it a spin. Since it was my first game I was a bit confused during it but still had a lot of fun. I had printed off other factions boards so I could play my texico or ISS. I played the ISS. I know I made a lot of mistakes in terms of threat and I think I messed up the breach and clear I was doing. Unfortunately my oldest came in and scattered a bunch of the bits all over in a tantrum so I couldn't finish. But I will definitely be trying it again. I think I may paint up the other models for that soon as well.

More as I get it done.

Painting Table #4 2017

This past week with the big holiday allowed me to complete a lot. Not only did I finish off the marines I did all the zombie from deadzone I found that I had running around. For a total of 46 models finished. The should be useful for TNT and deadzone.

I will have to wait and see what I do next.

Painting Table # 15 2016

So straight to business. I painted the Ogres and the Forge Fathers. I still need bases for the Ogres but don't have any handy. That is however 17 more models finished.

Then I went on a assembling spree with all the frost grave minis and Oathsworn ones. Which means my sort of staging box is all filled up again. I hope to get these primed soon so I can work on the during the summer. When it is to hot/humid to do any airbrushing.

Finaly, I started on a huge batch of marines. So far they are all based, primed and have some of the black details done. These are all technically old metal sternguard. I am actually using them as command units mainly for all my different squads, if I remember right.
Well that is what has been going on since the computer died. Wish it was more but work was also brutal the past month. More as I get it done.

Painting Table #14 2016

The past few days has been productive. I started by finishing off the building I thought was finished already (so it will not be counted this year). Then I started transfering/saving some gw paints. One of the purchases in the past week or so was 50 15mm dropper bottles for like 9 dollars with shipping. I have transfered 10 or so paints so far.

Finaly, I started blocking in colors on the ogers. So far I have only done about 2 colors a guy. I hope to have time to finish them off this next week.

In other news, I realized that one of my posts earlier this week pushed me over the 400 post mark. Amazed in myself for still doing this and equally amazed that people actually look at it. Anyway that is all for now.

Painting Table #12 2016

This week was quite good. I finished off all 14 of the plague models and thus finished off the deadzone box set along with the few extra guys I had laying around.
I also finalized my kickstarter spending for This is not a Test. I also picked up a bunch of new nick knacks for painting and such. I did also pick up a metal set of goblin heroes for future use from mantic. The total set back from all of this was $131.18. It kills a large chunk of my budget for the year. But on the other hand it gets me a bunch of stuff I wanted to get anyway. The rest of the budget will probably be spent of flushing out the frostgrave stuff and maybe a pet project.

Anyway more as I get it done.

Painting Table #11 2016

Let me start by apologizing for the silence. I have been struggling. The following picture explains it all.
Basically I have been using this guy as the test model. At the time this photo was taken he had been stripped 3 times and by the time you see this post he will be stripped again. I have been struggling to get the effect I want. I have made a tiny bit of progress on the other guys but most of the effort has gone into trying to get what I wanted to work right.

Now here is what I have learned through this giant mess.
First, I have been using inks and washes wrong for years. I totally misunderstood what was for what and have actually been using them the opposite of how they should be used. As in I have been using washes like inks and inks like washes. It also seems that what I actually need to try and due to make my models work the way I want is probably trying to make the ink I have into a glaze. I think. So more as I get it done.

Painting Table #10 2016

Sorry for the long silence. I basically have been playing video games instead of painting. So these guys took much longer than normal. That finishes up all of the deadzone enforcers.
Next up will be all the the deadzone plague models.

Not much to report otherwise hopefully I will be back on track soon. More as  I get it done. So that is 17 more models done.

Painting Table #8 2016

I managed to actually get stuff done quickly over the weekend and the first few days this week. Namely I did my whole Pan O half of Operation Icestorm. Overall I like how they turned out
Here are 3 pictures showing all 7 of them.
I decided the next goal is to paint a chunk of the deadzone stuff and then I will do a bunch of marines. So here are all the enforcers that need to be done.

So that is 7 more models to the total for the year. It also crosses off another part of the to do list. Actually with the skeletons from last post that is two things. At the moment I don't have any more Frostgrave stuff to paint. That will change at some point this year but for now it is all done.
More as I get it done.

Painting Table #7 2016

This week was great for progress but then again major holidays sometimes help me get more hobby time. I finished off the building I had been working on and 20 skelies.

So that is 21 finished models. Next up I want to finish off the pan O stuff and then try and find time to set stuff up and take pictures for different tabs.

Painting Table #6 2016

First off lets start with spending. I spent another $ 24 buying supplies.

I also finished off 3 cats for Frostgrave and 2 more walkways.

The projects for this week and maybe next are skelies and hopefully Pan O starter from box.
Also here is a picture of my oldest trying to teach his friend the first game I taught him with terrain he made.

More as I get is done

Painting Table #5 2016

This week saw a flurry of activity but very little finished, mainly due to running out of paint. At that point I started up on another 2 projects.
This is all the undead and what I plan on being snow leopards based.

I also started getting my Pan O ready.

The 3 walkways I finished and then the unfinished stuff. I have just enough paint left to fix the edges on the other 2 catwalks. The building however I will not have enough paint for at the moment. The catwalks just need the blue green and touch up done.

So since I was running out of paint I didn't finish all I wanted. But hopefully I can finish off a little more and keep the momentum going with the other models.
that brings the total for the year to 18 models.
I also spent another $50 on getting a kickstarter. More on that later.

Late mid year review

So lets go back over the goals for the year.

Goals
1. Paint all the tau stuff I have.
2. Paint the 2 merc forces I have
3. Paint 400 points
4. Build/paint at least 2 pieces of terrain.
5. Paint more than I buy again. preferably on the 2 to 1 scale
6. $350 or less in spending

So where are we in the grand scheme of things.
1. All but 13 drones and 9 suits done. After they are finished it will be all good for now. I may in the future add new things but I have no plans to.

2. The first Merc force is assembled and will hopefully be painted soon. The other shouldn't be to far behind.

3. I am currently at 335 points. Well on my way to the 400 point goal for the year.

4. This one is completely done. I have painted way more than 2 pieces of terrain this year. Just with the planets I did, never mind all the deadzone stuff.

5. So far the paint more than I buy is well ahead of the goal with  156 to 41.

6. I am once again over budget by $45 and change. This will hopefully be different in the future.

Now for the 6MMRPC stuff.
1. Tau, a bunch of firewarriors/pathfinders, some kroot and about 9 suits are left at this point
2. BFG Tau, should have the first 3 finished by end of month.
3. The 2 other earth shakers
4.The 2 Mercs starter sets, something like 14 models
5.The Aqua ships I have running around, I think 10 or so models
6. The dystopian war ships I found the other day, frigates for both fleets maybe 5 or 6 each.

1. As noted above this one is well on the way to being finished.
2. Already finished.
3. Finished though not painted.
4. As with part 2 in first part.
5. Not even looked at yet.
6. Cleaned up waiting for paint.

That already earned me 1 joker, I am not sure for the earthshakers since I mainly finished them since I had them. They are still available to a good home by the way just for the cost of shipping. The Epic Space Marines and Titan group are also still available.

6MMRPC/ Painting Table #30 2015

So a bit of progress since I returned from vacation. Below you will find. The last 2 phased ion suits built. 4 more 1x1 deadzone structures. Two more broadsides, 1 missile, 1 railgun and 2 drones. 5 bridges I made with Deadzone stuff. Finally, I finished painting that 1 scatter wall, 1 defensive wall, and the 2 doors for the buildings. The doors I am not counting as models since they go to the 2x1 buildings, so 2 more models and 4 more points.

I am going to be taking a break from painting terrain for now. I am going to paint up the 13 drones since I can do them all by hand. After that I think I will move on to the Dystopian Wars ships. The 9 suits will be on hold until the airbrush is back up and running in September. If I manage to finish this current painting before the airbrush is back up, then I think I will move on to painting either the texico stuff or maybe some other models I have running around.

6MMRPC/ Painting Table #29 2015

You may have noticed a lack of posts this week. There are 2 reasons for that, mainly the humidity at the moment which has killed a lot of my hobby time, the other part is I will be on vacation by the time you read this. So I wanted to maximize  my available hobby time with my prep work. Since at this point my airbrush is almost useless do to the temp/humidity.

So here is what I did. One big wall of pictures ahead. In short I got both towers assembled and one primed and the yellow done. I assembled one of the XV9 suits with phased ion guns. Primed some ruins, walls and such to paint up. Cleaned up the 12 remaining Dystopian wars frigates for my two factions. Assembled and cleaned up my Texico faction box for Mercs. Assembled some stripped Gun drones. Finaly I started painting some wall sections and doors for the 2x1 buildings already finished.

Not pictured but also done was the clean up of a bunch more deadzone stuff. Getting ready to assemble some bridges and maybe a few more smaller buildings. So you can look forward to more assembly pictures and maybe even painting next week. I am hopping to get more done soon since on the table now along with whats assembled is another 3 jokers.

6MMRPC/ Painting Table #28 2015

Been another good week. I managed to finish off the 2x2 building.
I am going with 8 points since most of one side is open and of course one more model completed.

Then I also assembled a bunch more scatter terrain. To be honest though. I have no idea how I should paint my different rubble piles. I also assembled the last xv9 with fusion cascades and did more prep work on the three other xv9s.

The next week or so I plan on mainly doing assembley tasks. A bunch of drones, 5 more suits and whatever else I get my hands on. By the way what do you guys think of the posts with smaller pictures?
