Gotcha Day Anniversary

Ten years ago to this day, Tootsie waddled into our lives and changed our hearts forever. Our hearts expanded to include this lowdown tube of fur who was fierce and funny and obsessed with food, walkies, and cuddles.

Our first photograph together:

Dachshund Daddy promised Tootsie that he would carry her on walkies in her senior years. "One day, I will carry you everywhere." And he did. People in our town still think of us as the couple who carried their little dog everywhere.

When Tootsie passed away last year, two months into the global pandemic, our hearts were broken. They still are. To be a dog-less dog person is to know that you are less of yourself, for a time, but that you have been made a better self by your pup.

Dearest Tootsie, we send you all our love in the Great Beyond today on your Gotcha Day anniversary. And we send all our love to you, our friends.

Stay safe out there. It's a wild world.

Xo

Tootsie Tuesday!

It is Tuesday and time for Tootsie Tuesday. Grateful for every single day with our super senior. Tube of Fur knows naps matter for humans & canines alike. Find your best burrow and have a nap!

Our favorite burrow (pictured) is our DreamSack from Dachshund Delights. Dachshund Delights is based in Ohio. In addition to pawsome handmade in the U.S.A. dog items, April and her team are currently making face masks for humans. They announced their masks and within thirty hours had over 1,500 orders! Thank you, Dachshund Delights, April, & your whole team!

Happy Birthday, William Wordsworth!

It is Tootsie Tuesday & William Wordsworth's birthday!

Renee here: I'm thinking of all those years my dad was quoting William Wordsworth, and how I didn't realize it until I got to college.

So I phoned Dad: "Hey, you've been quoting Wordsworth since I was little!"

Dad's reply: "Yup." (Tootsie's grandpa is the best!)

We are thinking of you, friends, during these challenging times. May your hearts be full of joy and sorrow. And naps. Tootsie is our nap champion. Tootsie is our everything. xo

Black Friday Plans and a Limerick from Grandpa!

I hope my USA friends, and those celebrating abroad, had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We send love from our house to your house!

Here is a Black Friday limerick that Grandpa wrote:
If “Black Friday” is seen as obscene
By those of more halowt’ed ween
Could we soften it up
With a much lighter touch
For those with more limited means?
And here are my Black Friday plans--a nap with my pull tab out:

Love and all things fur,
Tootsie

Stable is the Name of the Day

Hi, Friends!

Just a little note to wish you a happy end of September and to let you know I'm stable. I'm still eating tiny meals multiple times a day, but my tummy problems seemed to have settled down. Paws crossed!

Meet my new friend, Brad the Crab.

Thank you, again, for all your wonderful wishes. It's so good to have fur friends.

Hike 4 of 2019

Hike 4 of 2019: Monte Clivio, Italy.

This is a super-interesting hike, because the whole trail is in Switzerland except for a tiny jaunt to the summit in Italy. There used to be a border fence with barbed wire on this trail between Switzerland and Italy. It was taken down. I would point out that in 2019 civilized countries do not need walls--nor do they build new ones.

Here's a photograph of the nap we took during the hike.

I was so happy to be in the woods with Tootsie and Dachshund Daddy on a gorgeous Sunday, yesterday.

Hike 3 of 2019

In the winter this is a hike we do a lot--it's in Suino, Switzerland--so I'll just count it once for our 2019 tally. Not shown to the right of the picture is a valley with several horses and the occasional Scottish cow.

Dog met: Maggie, an eleven-year-old yellow lab who was hoarse from barking so much.

Visual of what the humans ate afterward:
