Handling Social Media when you have Too Much To Do
Here's an interesting article about writers using Social Media for the best effect,
It's a post by Darcy Pattison called, "Emily Dickinson Would Have Tweeted!"
Networking and keeping up with friends takes time. People, especially writers, have done this for ages -- only the media we use has changed. Many 18th Century writers scheduled time to write letters, a half a day or more. It just takes time. You have to find the balance between the need for marketing and networking and the passion for creating.
One way to keep up is to use places that gather links, like TheDailyBrainstorm.com or Alltop.com which lists blogs.
Thanks to Darcy Pattison for all these ideas. And check out the writing resources she has collected by clicking on the links to the right of her Emily Dickinson article.
Now
Back to preparing that turkey and trimmings.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Surviving the Editorial Letter
I'm a firm believer that we children's book writers have a lot in common with writers of Romance Novels. So much so that I belong to the local Maryland chapter and usually attend the Romance Writer's of America convention whenever it is held here in the Washington, DC area. Their workshops have so much information for mid-list writers of all genres.
I also follow the blogs of several Romance Writers' agents. (for the same reason)
For example, Rachelle Gardner has a guest post on her blog from one of her writers, Camille Eide, talking about the Editoral Letter and how writers react to it.
Yup.
I've gone through all of the stages she mentions whenever I get one, myself.

Writing links
Here are some links to several entries on the Crowe's Nest blog -- the blog of agent Sara Crowe where her list of authors take turns posting articles about writing.
First, one from Mary Atkinson about the Controlling Belief of a character -- that which forms the background reason for all the character does. This is different from a character's goal.
Secondly, another post by author, Lisa Schroeder, from this same blog giving a writer's view of the American Library Association's Summer Conference. Yes, the same conference I wrote about last week.
Happy reading and writing.
