Happy New Year (last week...)

Yeah, so I'm late. Story of my life!

Check this out...

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG I HAVE LOOKED FOR THESE BOOKS!!!!
Seriously! I can even remember years ago, standing in a secondhand book sellers with a copy of 'Portal of Evil' IN MY HAND and going...
"Meh, probably got that one..." IDIOT!

That was literally YEARS ago! 'Keep' and 'Moonrunner' I haven't had much luck with finding either and then bam, my sister comes round with a bag full of books and says
"want any of these?"

And there they were...

=)

Right, so other things.
These were given to me by awesome peeps as Christmas gifts, to be completed soon-ish...

Look at that, my fist Tamiya 1/72 aircraft kit... I cant even! Seriously too good for the likes of me!

Also on the aircraft front I have noticed that Airfix have released their Do17z kit and are currently making kits for the Defiant and Beufighter! Excellent =)

What else? I was gifted a copy of GW's Mines of Moria a looooooong time ago - I am pleased to report that it is almost completed!
Yes, I mean it! I only have to paint the Heroes. (What is that all about? I always rush in, paint up all the Evil blighters cackling maniacally to myself; and then MAYBE decide to throw some paint over a few do-gooders...) What an evil git I am.

If anyone is interested - I have also managed to get my emulator to play 'Space Crusade' FINALLY!

It's not going too bad for the Ultras atm...

Just look at that shade of lippy... hot as. (Though the white Power Armour probably makes my ass look big...)

2 Missions down and about 8 marines are already off to see the Emperor.
Not a great kill ratio.

Fighting Fantasy #15 'Rings of Kether' is up next for a review. I had already managed to get through it several months ago for a post but that was several months ago and my memory would have played all kinds of tricks on me trying to recall what I did. -
"Attack the drug smuggler, get the flowers and tickle the elephant, do not pass go, leave earth in a spaceship shaped like a mushroom, after freeing the gnome listen to his tales of heroic lingerie shopping, eat the beans..." ETC

Um. Yes.

Happy New Year! Christmas goodness, some old work; and some new work =)

Hey all, Merry (belated) Christmas and Happy New Year!

Just returned from a holiday away, nice to change the scenery from time to time.

Here's a shot I took a while back and forgot to post,

This is a shot of all the HeroQuest stuff before being sent off to my friends flat to do battle! With any luck I can relate a few heroic tales of daring do soon (now that everyone is back) Or at least bore a few of you to sleep with stories of heroic bungling... More likely.

A couple of cool pressies to get done this year.

REEEEEEALLY looking forward to this one. I have a special project planned for German troops and armour and have managed to get a few kits together, I'll get pics up as soon as something is finished.

A surprise present from my Dad. I haven't had a go at any of these new Airfix kits yet so am eager to get onto this. One surprise was that it doesn't come with any crew figures? Not complaining, just surprised. (Yes I ripped the bag open and checked and everything!)

Here's a little (as in Hot Wheels little!) something I have been working on. A while ago I was very impressed by a blog I stumbled upon with 'Mad Max' inspired cars and figures converted for wargaming. I don't know if I'll get around to putting rules together but I had a blast painting this car! Expect lots more (I have an assault buggy getting prepped right now)
Here are a couple more angles...

Not sure If I should base the model or not? Hmm. Maybe get a few done first then see how I feel about it.

And lastly, a My Little Pony for my sister's Christmas present!

Great to finally convert a larger scale toy into something, she really seemed to like it so I think a few more are in order!

Cool, I managed to take a game book away with me on my trip to the in laws place over the hols so give me a moment to gather my thoughts and I'll get a review written!

HeroQuest - Final!

Life does tend to take a lot out of you doesn't it??

Well then, before I'm old and grey here are the last in my series of HeroQuest figures.

First up is a selection of the fantastic furniture supplied in the game.

My first furniture painting... so proud =)
The weapons rack was really the bit I was looking forward to. The only stumbling block being what colours to paint the shields! I'm always amazed how well this stuff has survived over the years I have owned it, believe me, she's seen some action!
Along with the weapons rack I'm particularly pleased with the tome on the sorcerers alter, very papery =)

Here are the Orcs

Sorry for the bad photo. I'm still getting a decent lighting system together for models and such.
As with the other evil beings I have painted them directly from the artwork on the lid. Not much I can say, they came out nice and grubby!
I actually used a friends painting technique for these models which he always called his 'Scunge' approach. Funny what you remember...

And lastly (but by no means leastly)

The Heroes!

Great fun painting these lads. I still say the Elf was the best character (but the Dwarf was my fav)
The Wizard's tunic came out well (its a bit garish in the photo I'm afraid...) And his blue trousers (denim?? surely not!) weathered up well.
I did a lot of playing around with metallic colours and washes for their accoutrements and have to say that the Barbarians two handed sword does justice to the artwork, but that blue hue was a bitch to mix!
The Dwarf probably came out the best, but then I've always liked painting Dwarf's. The Elf was fairly boring but easy and the Barbarian, even showing all that skin, didn't prove as difficult as I feared.

So there you go, all done and ready for the slaughter that awaits in the dungeons below!
Thanks to any who have actually waited for me to post this, lots more to come as Space Crusade nears completion and vies for my time betwixt a number of other projects!
Ahh, so much to do and so little time...

Days of High Adventure - almost there...

Here they are! By far my favourite race of semi-chaotic swamp dwelling, damsel kidnapping, dungeon wandering, flower arranging (possibly) One eyed servants of Morcar  =)

I've had so many arguments regarding the Fimirs presence in HeroQuest over the years that I can't even remember what most of them were about. Obviously important stuff...

The models themselves are among my favourites, although they were by far (for me at least) the most challenging to paint satisfactorily. Here's my attempt at the great green brawny short-sighted ones.
Yes, yes. I can hear the ribbing remarks of 'being so one-eyed' and 'not being able to see the other side of it' now... sigh.

Not to be left out, the two most characterful bad guys from HQ also got the Vogue treatment. The Chaos Sorcerer is a spiffing model to paint, and a very handy bloke to have around a dungeon.  I really like the box art Les Edwards created for HQ and decided to paint him in kind.

By far the easiest way to get a group of shifty little tomb thieving bitch heroes to wet themselves is with the appearance of 'La Gargola' in a confined space. I went for the 'Living Stone' (I presume) approach with mine, rather than the more flamboyant example by Mr McVey provided in the box (yes, because I'm lazy...)

That's it for now. Only the Orcs and the Hero figures remain to be sullied by my bristles!
Thanks for taking a look and I'll post the results... um when I get around to painting them.

Bye!

Christmas, Heroquest and Eagle Warrior goodness!

Happy new year all! Yes, I realise its almost February...

Had a blast over the hols, hope you all did the same  =) First up a couple of new projects a la Christmas pressies

Tiger awesomeness!
Cant wait to build this up =) I don't have any real experience building tank kits so this will be a great start.

This one was a surprise. A lovely re-issue of a classic Italeri kit (back when they called themselves 'Italaerei' which is waaaay before my time)
Have discussed the idea of a tank battle game using these awesome kits with a friend who hopefully will get into it!

On the HeroQuest front I have finally managed to get enough time/space to photograph the completed minis so far. So without further ado -

So there's the Undead portion of my Heroquest collection, I should have mentioned before that it goes beyond the contents of the original box (hence why it takes so long to paint)
I was fortunate a while back and managed to pick up a second HQ box at a dump shop for $1!!

Some filthy-mouthed chaos warriors to chase the weak kneed heroes off the board...

And a sneaky mess of poo flinging goblins to lure them into traps...

So far so good. I've also completed the Gargoyle figure but he'll have to wait until the Chaos Sorcerer is completed for a photo shoot =)

Last but by no means least is my newly acquired classic Rhino. I didn't have to assemble this as it came already built and set up as some kind of Whirlwind and sported a paint job that I wont inflict on you. But with a bit of modification and a HUGE amount of white paint I think she came up alright!

Many more Eagle Warriors to go before the army is all complete (the dreadnought is gonna be a BIG mission) But hopefully I'll have it all up here asap.

Great, so thats it for now, lots more painting to get finished and tons of new ideas and projects to get on the go. Se you soon!

So many Zombies

So little time.

The Zombie figures from HeroQuest were always some of my favourites, well them and the Fimir.
Always ends in an argument when you talk of the Fimir...
Not sure why.

To be honest there isn't really a dud figure supplied with HQ (in my humble opinion) although as far as outfits go I think the wizard got the short end of the stick, especially that tiara.

Just why Citadel decided that the Chaos sorcerer should have a skull for a face instead of an actual face also perplexes. I mean everyone has a skull don't they. But not everyone has an evil, twisted, possibly lacerated and or ritually disfigured, snarling death mask of a face to scare weak kneed heroes with eh??
Well I suppose in a game aimed at 10 year old's a skull is plenty scary.

So, right the Zombies. Yes... no, I can't remember.

Just look at this bit of art would you, bloody fantastic!

Having a sick-day today, not as productive as I would like being that I can stay awake for about an hour at a time.
Not to be put off; I've got the first batch of Heroquest figures up on the table for a quick brush up and will hopefully have a photo or two ready to post for next time!

A quick visit to my friends has also indicated that they wouldn't mind a quick jaunt through the dungeons of Morcar (once painted) as well, excellent! Right into my trap...

Right, off to defeat that infernal "Aliens-the board game" on New Grounds.
Wierzbowski always dies...
