Baraka bağımsızlıkçıdır. Baraka aktivistleri kişisel bağımsızlıklarını tutkuyla korurlar. Baraka örgütsel bağımsızlığından hiçbir koşulda taviz vermez. Ülkemiz Kıbrıs'ın bağımsızlığını sosyalizm mücadelesi ile ayrı düşünmez. Kıbrıs'ın bağımsızlığına ulaşmasını ve sosyalizmi önüne hedef olarak koyar.
Baraka'nın kişisel bağımsızlıktan anladığı şey, kendi kafasının dikine gitmek, örgütsüzlük ve "benbilirim"cilik değildir. Bizim için bireysel bağımsızlık; sosyal, ekonomik ve düşünsel anlamda kendine yeterli bireyler olmaktır. Böylesi bir bağımsızlık, kendi gibi bağımsız diğer bireylerin düşüncelerine önem vermeyi, kolektif olarak hareket edebilme olgunluğunu gösterebilmeyi ve tartışma yolu ile ikna olmaya açık olabilmeyi içerir. Bağımsız bireyler olarak ne birileri tarafından (iyi amaçlar için dahi olsa) körü körüne yönlendirilmeyi ne de başka kişileri körükörüne yönlendirmeyi kabul ederiz. Bizler ortak amaçlara ortak süreçlerden geçerek varmaya azimli bağımsız bireyler olarak açık tartışma yolu ile iknaya ve pratik eylemin eleştirisine kıymet veririz.
Baraka anti-kapitalist zeminde bağımsız bir Kıbrıs için mücadele eder. Ancak bu kendi içine kapalı bir ulusalcı bağımsızlık olmadığı gibi, "kurtuluş" adına emperyalist oluşumlara (AB,BM) bel bağlamak da değildir. Bugün siyasi anlamda bağımsız olduğu iddia edilen ülkelerin, ekonomik, kültürel, askeri ve idari anlamda emperyalizmin yeni-sömürgeleri oldukları olgusu inkar edilemez. Öyleyse Kıbrıs için talep ettiğimiz bağımsızlık, şekilsel bir sözde bağımsızlık değil; her yönü ile gerçek bir bağımsızlık olmalıdır. Bağımsız bir ülkede yaşayan bağımsız bir halk, dünya halklarının bağımsız (demek ki gönüllü) bir dayanışma ağı oluşturmasının temel koşuludur. Enternasyonalizmin en önemli özelliği halkların gönüllü (demek ki bağımsız) ortak mücadele ve dayanışma birlikteliğine dayanıyor olmasıdır.
Tüm bu sebeplerle Baraka, bağımsızlıkçıdır ve Baraka aktivistleri bulundukları her zeminde gerçek bağımsızlık için mücadele ederler.

PALESTINE SOLIDARITY MEETINGS: END THE GAZA BLOCKADE

The barbaric blockade of the Gaza strip by the zionist state of Israel continues for almost five years. One of the most powerful war engines on the globe enforces a suffocating iron grip on one of the poorest areas of the planet. A small strip of land has been turned by this blockade into an open prison for 1.5 million people.
Lack of food, water, electricity, fuel and medicine drive the population into starvation and at the same time Israel kills people everyday bombarding indiscriminately the so called targets.
It is a crime committed under the eyes of the whole planet and the approval of the new American administration and the European Union.
The murderous piratelike latest attack of Israel against the flotilla of the “Free Gaza” movement ended with the coldblooded killings of unarmed activists caused a condemnation of the attack by the solidarity movement across the globe.
Here in Cyprus we need to mobilize in solidarity with the Palestinian people and as Greek Cypriots we must demand from the government of Demetris Christofias to end any cooperation with the Israel state and allow the departure of any boat that wants to attempt to reach Gaza. The restrictions the Cypriot government has enforced on the “Free Gaza” flotilla, makes it an accomplice in the crimes of Israel.
The bicommunal coalition “Stop the War – Cyprus” is organizing open discussion event in which we will hear the testimony of one eyewitness of the latest piracy in international water by Israel and discuss how we can best demonstrate our solidarity with the Palestinian people.
There will be two meetings:
On Tuesday the 29th of June at 7:30pm at the Information Office of Nicosia Municipality (end of Ledra Street). Main speakers will be:
• Demetra Kirillou -activist of the Stop the War Coalition in Greece who took part in the latest attempt to break the blockade and was an eye witness of the attack will give the account of events under the title: “What happened-Myth and Reality” and
• Dr. Maged Hdaib of the Palestinian Authority in Cyprus.
On Wednesday 30th of June at 7:30pm at Hall 3 of the Grand Library of the Near East University

FİLİSTİN İLE DAYANIŞMA ETKİNLİKLERİ: GAZZE ABLUKASINI DURDURUN
Siyonist İsrail devletinin Gazze Şeridi’ne uyguladığı barbar abluka beş yıldır devam ediyor. En güçlü savaş araçları, gezegenin en fakir bölgesine boğucu bir baskı uyguluyor. Bu abluka ile birlikte ufak bir şerit bir buçuk milyon insan için bir açık hava hapishanesine dönmüş durumdadır.
Yiyecek, su, elektrik, yakıt ve ilaç yokluğu ile yoksulluk derinleşirken, İsrail her gün sözde hedeflerini gelişigüzel bombalayarak masum insanları öldürmeye devam etmektedir. Bu bütün dünyanın gözleri önünde ve ABD ile AB’nin onayı ile gerçekleşen bir suçtur.
“Özgür Gazze” hareketinin küçük filosuna İsrail tarafından gerçekleştirilen son korsanca saldırı, silahsız aktivistlerin soğukkanlı bir şekilde öldürülmesi ile sonuçlandı. Bu da küresel dayanışma hareketinin saldırıları kınamasına neden olmaktadır.
Biz de ülkemiz Kıbrıs’ta Filistin halkı ile dayanışmamızı yükseltmekteyiz. Özellikle Kıbrıslı Elen halkının Dimitris Hristofyas hükümetinden İsrail devleti ile her türlü işbirliğini kesmesini ve Gazze’ye ulaşmak isteyen teknelere yardımcı olmasını istemesi çok önemlidir. Kıbrıs hükümetinin “Özgür Gazze” filosuna uyguladığı kısıtlamalar onu İsrail suçlarına ortak yapmaktadır.
İki toplumlu bir yapılanma olan “Savaşa Hayır Kolisyonu – Kıbrıs”; İsrail tarafından uluslararası sularda gerçekleştirilen son korsanlık faaliyetini bizzat yaşayan bir tanığı dinleyebileceğimiz ve Filistin halkı ile dayanışmamızı en iyi nasıl gösterebileceğimizi tartışabileceğimiz iki açık etkinlik düzenliyor.
İlk etkinlik 29 Haziran Salı saat 19:30’da Lefkoşa Belediyesi’nin Ledra Caddesi sonundaki Enformasyon Ofisi’nde gerçekleşecektir. Konuşmacılar;

We support this and all mass mobilizations for the liberation of Palestine and for the support of Gaza.
But we must protest the way that the location for this particular event was announced: the Near East University is an illegal institution, founded on stolen and occupied lands and intertwined with the military and financial structures of the occupation regime of northern Cyprus, which is an extension of the Turkish military authorities that hold the country illegally, just as the Israeli military is occupying Palestine.
The Near East University is an instrument of propaganda for the regime. On the first page of its website it states: "The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was founded on 15th November 1983 when nothing solid was emerging from the inter communal meetings which had been taking place since the 20th July 1974 Peace Operation. This state is multi party democracy, and it is based on social justice and the rule of law." Nothing could be further from the truth about this genocidal regime.
We believe that the organizers of the event should have noted the special role of this institution in their published materials and have underlined its illegal status.
Furthermore, there is a struggle taking place currently to oppose the illegal regime's effort to "legitimize" its universities abroad - by fraud and misrepresentation - that is focusing on another institution that operates under similar status: the "Eastern Mediterranean University". We support all international and local efforts to oppose any legitimizing, upgrading or beautifying the illegal status of these institutions. For more information on these struggles please see here:

We applaud that students, faculty and staff at these institutions see themselves as allies of the Palestinian people against the Israeli occupation and we ask them to please consider opposing the illegal occupation of Cyprus as well.

Launch of Palestine Film Festival 1 June 2010
Palestine Film Festival 1-6 June, Nicosia.

The Palestinian Community in Cyprus cordially invites you to the launch of the first annual Palestine Film Festival of Cyprus.
7pm, Tuesday 1 June 2010
at Cine Studio, University of Nicosia (formerly Intercollege).
The reception will include a welcome address by His Excellency Mr. Neoklis Sylikiotis, Minister of Interior, a photographic exhibition from Gaza, music by Conor McLean, and a discussion panel with Mohammad Rujailah,
director of ‘To Shoot an Elephant’ - the first film of the festival, which will be screened at 9pm. The Palestine Film Festival showcases the creativity and diversity of filmmakers exploring Palestinian themes.
Films will be screened at 9pm every evening from 1 to 6 June 2010, free entry.

Το πρόγραμμα περιλαμβάνει χαιρετισμό από τον έντιμο Υπουργό Εσωτερικών, κ. Νεοκλή Συλικιώτη φωτογραφική έκθεση από τη Γάζα, μουσική απο τον Κόνορ Μακλείν, και μια ανοιχτή συζήτηση με τον Mohammad Rujailah,
τον σκηνοθέτη της ταινίας ‘To Shoot an Elephant’, η οποία θα προβληθεί στις 9 το βράδυ. Το Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Παλαιστίνης προβάλλει τη δημιουργικότητα και τη ποικιλία των σκηνοθετών που εξερευνούν Παλαιστινιακά θέματα.
