Star Ornament

Wow, this was a really fun project to put together! This is my creation for the new challenge over at Decorate to Celebrate!

One of my friends gave me the gold glittery stars, so I made a rosette from this file at My Scrap Chick, edged it with some gold glitter and attached it to the front of the star, then punched out a simple star from glitter paper for the front! So easy and quick, and adorable on the tree. I hope you'll create something for this challenge and join us! Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Card Time!

It's time to work on Christmas cards! Here's a cute digi from SLS Lines, one of the sponsors for the new challenge over at {PIN}spirational Challenges. I was able to use my Minc and add foil to the star and to the round ornaments on the tree. The digi is colored with my new
Spectrum Noir markers, too!
I hope you'll get your creative on and join this challenge! It's the last one for this year! Thanks for stopping by today!

Christmas in July!

Here is a new project for The Cutting Cafe! It's Christmas in July and today I made a Sleigh Treat Box! Here is the video showing how I put this together.
I'm still new to video designing, so I'm trying to learn from my mistakes and make them better each time. I realized that there really isn't a good view of the treat box from this view point. Hmmm. So to make sure you get a good idea of how cute this is, here's a photo!
Thanks for joining me today!

Keeping Records

Christmas is over and we are into a new year! By next December, I'll be trying to remember who was on my Christmas card list! Well, here's an idea! I've created a Christmas card record book using the fabulous Nativity box card file from the SnapDragon Snippets store found here. BUT, instead of making a box card, I used the pieces flat on the front cover of my record book. As a little bonus, I have the file for the inside pages, in PDF form, available here, for you to make your own! *Edited to add: these pages will need printed 2-sided.

This book is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, and each letter of the alphabet has sent/received boxes that will last for the next 5 years!

It has enough room for names and addresses for many, many friends and family members!

I hope you enjoy this little bonus! Please like their page and show them your creations on the SnapDragon Snippets facebook page found here.

Have a fantastic 2015!

Merry Christmas!

The reason for the season - the birth of our Lord Jesus! His humble birth in a manger is depicted in this nativity set from SnapDragon Snippets, found in their online store here. You can find all the nativity pieces in the store...Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, wise men, an angel, plus the animals, and even the stable! It's a fantastic set; I hope you can get every piece and make your own set!

Thanks for joining me today! Merry Christmas!

There are more cards to choose from in the "Sweet Wishes Card Kit" found in the SVG Attic store here.
If you don't have your cards finished this year, be sure and head on over to pick up this file! Listen to some Christmas music and craft away! Thanks for looking!

Lantern Tutorial Part 1

This is my tutorial for the Christmas Lantern. I think these would look so cute on a mantel with some Christmas greenery, and then in the spring you could add some spring flowers and a bird to make a wonderful display! Please leave a comment for me so that I can improve my tutorials! I would also love to see your creations!

This is the lantern template.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/44937141
I had to enlarge it to 153% to get it to print the correct size. If you have problems, here are the exact sizes that the pieces need to be, and the directions for cutting them to the correct size.

Supplies for this project are:
Black 8 1/2 X 11 paper (3) pieces
White glitter paper 12 X 12 (1) piece or large scrap at least 12" long
Vellum 8 1/2 X 11 paper (1) piece
Scor-Pal
Scissors
Decorative punch
Oval cutter
Paper cutter
Pencil
Ribbon
Adhesive
Decorative element for the top

For the lantern, you will need to use the template, or use these directions to cut out the pieces:
You'll need (4) 4" X 4 1/2" black pieces

To each piece you will use the top left corner of the long side as your first point to mark with pencil. Then mark the top edge at 3 7/8.

Mark the bottom edge at 1/2" and 3 3/8".

Draw a line from the top mark to the bottom mark on the left side, then again on the right side.

Now mark 1/2" away from that line on the right side and draw another line.

Cut on the OUTSIDE lines only.

Score on the inside line and fold back

Snip off the top part of the the flap.

Cut out the oval center. If you need a center line, it's 2 15/16".

Cut (4) pieces of vellum 2 1/2" X 3 1/2". Adhere to the back of each lantern piece that you just created.

Base is 3 7/8" square.

Score 1/2" in from each side.

Trim each corner out inside the score lines and fold on the score lines.

Adhere lantern side to lantern base, being careful not to adhere flap. It gets a little tricky at this point, but you can do it!

Adhere the second side to the first side, then to the base.

Continue with the remaining sides.

The post is 6 1/2" X 4".

Put STRONG adhesive (I used Scor-Tape) on one short end, the carefully roll and attach with less than 1/2" overlap.

To connect the post to the base, use 4 scraps of black paper about 1/4" X 1", then fold in half.

Adhere one half into the post, then turn 1/4 turn and adhere the next one, continuing until all 4 are attached.

Test and mark your placement of the post onto the center of the bottom, then adhere in place.

Take a 3/4" X 6 1/2" piece of the glitter paper and use your decorative punch ( I used a Martha Stewart punch) on one long side.

Adhere to the bottom.

See Lantern Tutorial Part 2 for the lid and the remainder of the construction!

Lantern Tutorial Part 2

This is continuing the tutorial for the lantern. We are now going to make the lid and complete the lantern!

For the lid, you will need the template or (4) pieces 4 1/2" X 3 3/8".

Score 1/2" from the right (short)side and from the bottom.

Trim above the bottom score line on the right.

The top center will need marked at 2 1/8".

Draw a line from the top score mark on the left to the top center, and the right side to the center

Score the line on the right. Mark 1/2" away from this score line and cut.

Adhere the long flap first, the the bottom flap until you have the lid complete.

Take (2) 8 1/2" X 3/4" pieces of glitter paper and punch the edges, then score and fold at 4" and 8". Adhere to the bottom of the lid, overlapping the ends.

Add a bow around the post.

Embellish the top as you choose, or see my poinsettia tutorial, which should be posted within a week!

Add a battery powered tealight, put the lid on the top, and enjoy!
