Todays post is a completed miniature.  I've been working on this model for a number of months, since the general release in fact.  It's the first character model I've painted in a long time, and I've decided not to paint the eyes.  I just don't think I could do this (I haven't painted eyes in 10 years) without a lot of practice.  Also, I haven't painted the shield, I come back to both sheild and eyes later, but I really don't think it's necessary for the model at the model.

I've really enjoyed paint him, and I may get some other models of the character series.

The Rout, Part V

So the Internet is alive with the sounds of dreadtober, so I thought I would build the second of my three dread Vlka Fenryka talon.  This and the third dread will be rocking the assault cannon/power fist combo.  This is more to do with saving money for the new prospero box rather than a love for the load out.

In keeping with my first dread, I've put studs on this dread.  I think these look great on the dreads, as I like to think the rout got these standard then customised them.  This particular dread has the front scroll work removed.  All told this took me about five hours, but to be honest, it would have been much quicker with a decent drill.

Unusually I drilled the exhausts prior to assembly!

The Rout! Part 4

Hi all, I have put together the first half of my first tactical squad.  They need transfers and weathering but they are nearly there (and barrels drilled and repainted). I will probably add holstered pistols and combat blades in the future.  The models I'm building from now will get these prior to paint.  

All said, these are game ready.  

Here is the test model with a transfer.  

The bases colours are blatantly ripped off from Drake Seta of the battle bunnies Vlka Fenryka.

The Rout! Part 3

Hi all, I built this dreadnought when Betrayal at Calth came out.  While no where near close in detail and style to the FW resin ones, it's not terrible when converted a bit.  Certainly it's a gaming model rather than a display piece.

Still needs transfers and some weathering but it's table ready as is.

What do you guys think?

I'm seriously thinking of painting up a Vlka Fenryka Shadow Sword.  What are your thoughts?

The Rout, part 2

More test models, the initial test was too dark, at night, so i tried some more.  The original test is on the right.

These are from left to righ base coated with; dawnstone, stormvermin, and eshin grey.  I discounted the dawnstone as too light.  Interestingly five years ago he would have won hands down as he fits the original Codex Titanicus art work perfectly.

Today I bought some Mechanicus standard grey and tried this out:

And the minis lined up as per the chart:

My preference is the middle, Stormvermin, but I may paint a few of both.  It will be a pain for vehicles as there is now air brush version.  The storm vermin is a more grey grey, rather than blue grey of the mechanicus standard grey.  More the colour of fur....  

The eshin grey marine will be joining my red scorpions as I think it's nailed the artwork in the Forgeworld books.  He needs the ochre trim and some black shoulders and the knee repainting.

I have 15 torso so far, does anyone know why they say mkIV? 

Btw, just so you know, I drill barrels of weapons after painting.  I don't know why...

The Rout! Part 1

This is the test model for a new force I want to start building.  The intention is it will be a force of mkiii marines with a few mkiv as well (at least until the inevitable Mkii get done next year).

I've gone for a darker scheme to more fit the role of executioner the Vlka Fenrika have.

What are your thoughts?
