Harvest Monday...Oh How I've Missed You!
Here's my Harvest Monday post! It seems like it's been FOREVER since I posted! I harvest from the garden daily...almost 365 days a year...I just don't always get a photo...and here lately there's been no extra time in my day to post...hopefully I've rounded the bend and I'm getting my life back. Chasing My Tail!
I'm so outa' the loop, I didn't even know Blogger had changed! I wonder how long it's gonna' take for me to get use to that little fly in the ointment!
The garden is looking wonderful despite my inattention these last few months. I have a harvest of lettuces, potatoes, onions, celery, chard and kale daily. The strawberries and artichokes have been added to the mix for over a month now. The chickens have blessed us with more eggs than I know what to do with. The staff at school love the extras I pass along to them weekly. The new dwarf fruit orchard has set an abundance of fruit. I should have pulled it all off and allowed the trees to concentrate on putting all their energy in root development...but I just couldn't do more than a heavy thinning...I really want to see some ripe plums, apricots, peaches, nectarines, cherries and apples on my new trees.
Due to neglect I have lost my tomatoes, peppers, squash and melons...wiped out by something. I have put down diatomaceous earth and will replant on Monday...after I BUY transplants from the local nursery. I have not had to BUY transplants for YEARS! I will replant the squash and melons...plenty of growing season left for them. I'm going to go a head and direct seed a few tomatoes and peppers, too...just in case we have a long summer.
I have started more bees. I lost most of my hives to wax moth last season. I have invested in some nice new hive building material and I'm now making my own equipment...or at least I'm attempting to make my own equipment. My friend, Paula has increased her apiary to over 15 hives just by capturing swarms and splitting hives! My brother and his wife have just started their own two hives...they planted a nice garden and put in a two acre fruit orchard and wanted the bees for increased pollination. Looks like I started a bee movement in my little corner of the world!
My husband is doing well since his surgery. He's back out out in the farm fields he loves so much. Our youngest son is now in charge and that is a very welcomed change. My job has gone through several major changes, some good, some bad...but I'm still enjoying my time there. I am looking forward to June 1st, though...the last day of school and the start of summer vacation! Yahoo!
I want to thank those that have honored me with blogger awards the last few months...thank you! thank you! thank you! Because of my hectic schedule I have not been able to participate...but again, I am honored.
