Darlings, CC is so excited to share this insightful book review by guest editor and fledgling fashionista Paulette, a 7th grader from Canton, CT!

The iPhone Photography Book, by Scott Kelby.
Thank to Kourtney, president and co-founder of Pacific & Court, for sending CC a copy!
This concise, witty, full-color illustrated book explains in mini-chapters how to get professional-looking images with the camera you always have with you! CC picked up a bunch of tips and tricks, such as:
1) Use Burst Mode for shooting something that's moving.
2) Never use iPhone's built-in flash.
3) Don't put your subject in the middle of the frame. Use the rule of thirds (invented by a painter in 1797): divide your image into 3 sections, and place your subject where those lines intersect.
4) When photographing people, direct sunlight and artificial light should be avoided. The best time to shoot is when the sun is low in the sky.
Darlings, CC hopes this manual helps you become a better photog, too!

Book Review and Giveaway: Summer at Tiffany

CC just finished reading this lovely little book by Marjorie Hart entitled Summer at Tiffany.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the novel, courtesy tlcbooktours.com:
New York City, 1945. Marjorie Jacobson and her best friend, Marty Garrett, arrive fresh from the Kappa house at the University of Iowa hoping to find summer positions as shopgirls. Turned away from the top department stores, they miraculously find jobs as pages at Tiffany & Co., becoming the first women to ever work on the sales floor, a diamond-filled day job replete with Tiffany-blue shirtwaist dresses from Bonwit Teller’s—and the envy of all their friends.
Looking back on that magical time in her life, Marjorie takes us back to when she and Marty rubbed elbows with the rich and famous, pinched pennies to eat at the Automat, experienced nightlife at La Martinique, and danced away their weekends with dashing midshipmen. Between being dazzled by Judy Garland’s honeymoon visit to Tiffany, celebrating VJ Day in Times Square, and mingling with Café society, she fell in love, learned unforgettable lessons, made important decisions that would change her future, and created the remarkable memories she now shares with all of us.

CC’s Review:
What a divine autobiographical account of living in bustling New York City in the sweltering summer of 1945! The author both entertains and informs about her adventures working at Tiffany and the stress and excitement of wartime New York. CC particularly loved all the anecdotes about shopping and dining, from the girls' adventures at Bergdorf Goodman to lunching at the Automat. This is a lovely summer read for anyone who loves Tiffany or has nostalgia for a bygone era in which ladies referred to each other as "m'dear" and wore little white gloves as a matter of course.

Fabulous news, darlings! CC has one copy of this charming book to give away to a lucky CC reader! Five Day Contest: To enter, simply leave a relevant comment on this post. Open to U.S. and Canadian residents only. Good luck, darlings! And be sure to visit the Summer at Tiffany website here. Follow the author on Twitter too!
