#1067 Garden Rosebush

6"x6" | gouache on illustration board

I have painted this rosebush in front of my house several times with oil paints, so I wanted to give it a try with gouache (a matte water media) on archival illustration board. Gouache has a similiar look to oil paintings but has a very matte finish. I use a varnish especially for watermedia when it is dry.

Maryhill Museum Art Party Oil Painting Class was a big success
The Thursday evening Art Party at Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale, Washington was well attended, there was lots of wine and big fat brushstrokes of oil paint were abundant at the art party. I had talented first time oil painter students and experienced painters .

If you haven't seen the new wing of the Maryhill Museum in Goldendale, Washington, it is worth the visit. The sculpture in the garden, the exhibits inside, the new cafe in the new wing, and it is a stunning drive anytime of year, along highway 14, the smooth desert hills and the road winding through them, along the Columbia River makes for a spectacular drive. The whole drive and experience is incredibly inspiring.

Cleopatra Camelia

Tuesday Plein Air finally! I could feel the heat of the sun! It's good to finally get outside and do some painting. Good News Gardening has lovely sculptures and plant arrangements, that are so inspiring to paint. I painted this sculpture last week and wasn't really happy with the values and colors in the shadows. This week I tried it again, and I feel like I'm "getting it"...
