This model is just superb, the pose is amasing and given I love characters who are raised up on bases to show them off in the unit you don't get much better basewise than this!
I had great fun painting it but a note to others; some of the model is a little tricky to get to so if you like painting models in pieces this is one that really might benefit from that or if not be sure to paint the tricky underbelly and belt where hes hunching before the rest of the model. I paint in pieces because I always have way too many projects on the go at once and end up loosing/misplacing bits just when I want to paint them. I have a Gabriel Seth I wont paint til I can find his cloak and backpack...
A blog to help me keep track of my modelling activities, show off some models and to get tips and advice from other hobbyists!

OLS Converted Vermin Lord
I'm clearly not the only one whose been following the great tutorials Ron FTW has been posting up on Object Light Sourcing:

Obviously I wanted a go! Now being me I didn't decide to do any practice, no small eyes or sensible details to get the hang.. I decided to go and put it on my Vermin lord with both the sword blade and the skulls as glowing sources. They are inversely highlighted with the light smudges mainly belnded in with slightly different effects for the different textures the light fell on. I imagined an oval sphere around the sword to decide what the light touched and I tried to keep its influence even. I'd love some feedback and any tips for improvement! Heres what I've come up with so far:

Vermin Lord Daemon Prince
Page 40 of the Skaven army book has the Vermin Lord Bestiary entry, the picture is ominous and impressive. The metal model however is well... not. Not even a little. Plus i wanted an excuse to buy a new Daemon Prince model, they look sweet and have a few really nice bits on the sprue. Whack out a little green stuff and use all the horns I could find on the sprues:

Please do check out my futher posts on this guy:

More Clanrats
Heres unit of 30 number two. I realize a rust effect should stem from the bottom and end in the sliver highlight 'chipping'. however i didnt think it looked as good, i figured skaven might not get to hit enough to chip their weapons rust off :P

I went a bit heavy with the thraka green on a couple of these chaps so i'll have to watch that in the future. I hope you like them, I had alot of fun painting them up, which surpised me as when approaching 50+ guys i tend to get a bit bored of the repetition. The new models GW has been pumping out over the last couple of years have been gobsmackingly good! Next week, empire spearmen.

Skaven now?
I like many others went out and bought island of blood, in fact, i bought two. This was perhaps silly as i collected neither army. Low and behold, now im collecting Skaven too, because having yet another army to paint up is a good idea right? Right!
So i was very fortunate to be offereed some more models by a friend hed had someone paint up to a basic standard (sorry i don't know the name or i'd give them a mention). Oh yeah and I've managed to paint them red again...
So I've been busy turning these from this:

To this:

I'm part way through my second regiment of 30 rats. I have to say painting models up from a mainly base coated stage is surprisingly enjoyable and very easy. Similarly with my empire models where I'm simply updating alot of my rank and file models and adding intereting characters to keep it fun. I'd definately recommend that plan alot of us had to crack out an older army and give it an update!
