key west: on film

"Is that a CAMERA?" "How old is that?" "Does that take film?  You can still buy that stuff?"
These are the types of questions I answered while using my Yashica Mat in Key West.  I can't remember a time in the past two years when I have been approached while shooting with this camera, yet in on this trip I was stopped half a dozen times on the streets and in shops by inquiring minds.  One vacationer even photographed it with her iPhone.
Finally, I have my film images back.  It's not that I sent them away anywhere and have been waiting impatiently to see them.  Four rolls that I've shot sporadically over the last eight months have been sitting on my dresser, waiting on a trip up to my hometown to be processed.  The local lab there still processes 120 film on site, not to mention they can do it in an hour.  Sending film in the mail for developing turns me into an impatient ball of nerves, as I begin checking my email incessantly and becoming frustrated and going quietly insane waiting to see my negatives.  At least with the hometown lab, I wasn't waiting on anybody but myself to set the ball rolling, and once I made my mind up to take the film in, it was done the same day.  The cherry on top is that I can have my negatives developed for $3.60 per roll!
So anyway, here are the rest of the Key West images.  Now all that's left is to plan another vacation!

film in the summer, part 2

My second and final roll of summer film.  Whether I like it or not, fall is almost here...

  1. Pennsylvania sunflowers.  The closest I thought I'd get to a field of sunflowers this summer...
  2. More of the same
  3. The sunflower garden, which is blown out for some reason
  4. Garden tomatoes on the Hoosier
  5. EEEEK!! A real live sunflower field!!
  6. Looking away.  The view less photographed.
  7. Sunnies up close
  8. Butterfly bush at home
  9. More of the same
  10. Stunning vineyard shoot at sunrise.  Swoooon.
  11. Red wine grapes
  12. Veraison, the process of grape ripening.   Ok, this is one good reason to look forward to fall!

things i love thursday

This is my last TILT post before Christmas, and very likely my last before the new year.  And it's a good one!
  • Christmas cards.  I guess growing up is having Christmas cards addressed to YOU as a person and not as a component of your larger family.  I received a few with the sweetest notes inside and can't wait to start sending them myself...next year.
  • Our HOUSE!  We close on our first home in one week.  I can't wait to start getting it ready to move in!
  • TWO end-of-year weddings to shoot!  I've had one on my calendar for almost a year now (and can't believe it's almost here!) and added another at the last minute.  I can't wait!  Next week is going to be busy busy...
  • Paint-by-number.  I'm attempting my first one, since I saw it at the store and wanted a project to work on.  It's way more complicated than I'd expect something called "paint by number" to be!  But, it's an 11x14 canvas that we plan to hang in our new kitchen when it's finished!
  • deliberate wedding-pinning, both for my own wedding and those I photograph.  Wedding photos are such beautiful and joyful things!
  • Hector and the Search for Happiness, which I'm currently reading.  Really sweet.
