Funny Things

 So, what all happened yesterday?  Well, it rained.  All day it rained.  Over an inch of rain fell as a cold front moved into the area.  Today it is going to be cold, with out high temperatures only climbing into the mid 30s (F).  That same thing is going to be true for tomorrow, and Sunday.  On Monday we're supposed to be warming up again.

Where as Biggie and Lily hated the rain, Howie has no problem with it.  He has no problem with puddles either, and, if the puddle is located in the right place, he soon turns it into a mud puddle.  He thinks digging in a puddle of water is a really fun game.  And when he comes in we play "Let's try and dry off the wet puppy!"  I did end up laughing because the game is fun.

I finished dehydrating the bag of potatoes yesterday.  Tomorrow, I'm going to do tomatoes and possibly onions at the same time.  I'm sure the house will smell wonderful.  Otherwise, I did nothing yesterday except work on The Body in History.  I had no desire to really do anything, no doubt the result of the cloudy skies and constant rain.  I do like sunny days.  We need more of them.  Wouldn't it be nice if it only rained at night, while we are sleeping?

And now for a bit of dark humor:

The funny thing about that was if there were a lethal strain of Covid killing off Americans, soooo many of those anti-vaxers would suddenly start whistling a different tune.  I honestly believe that the biggest problem we had with the last strain of Covid was that Trump got it and lived.  Had he died, so many things would have been different.  Christians want to believe God kept him alive to give them what they want.  They evidently don't know that Evil works the same way, unfortunately so many of them are presumptuous enough to believe they know the will of God.  Can you hear me laughing?

As if Orangey's packing Guilfoyle off to Greece wasn't amusing enough, he's going to put Kari Lake in charge of Voice of America.  According to their website, they claim to reach 354 million people around the world.  To put that into perspective, there are over 8 Billion people in the world, so Voice of America is reaching .00000004% of the world's population.  I'm hoping that she realizes how big this insult is after spending so much time in Mar a Lago, probably doing abhorrent sexual things with the Orange Anus.  

Finally, no one should be surprised that there are hitlists springing up online and posters being spread with the names and pictures of Healthcare CEOs.  As I said, the shooting of the United Healthcare CEO was just the tip of the iceberg and no one is going to fix the problem with the American health care system.

The Happy Birthday Death Notice

 We had rain overnight, how much I don't know.  The pavers on the veranda were wet when Lily went out for her morning wee. (Did I get enough w words in that sentence?)  The temps today are only supposed to get up into the mid 80s (F), a bit of a drop from yesterday.  Showers and storms are also in the forecast.  I'm fine with that, but then I'm also scheduled to work for 6 hours.

I also climbed on board the scale this morning - it's time to cut back on the good stuff.

Everything needed for the kitchen redo has been purchased... except for the labor, and deposit has been put down for that.  The electrical work will be completed first, and the week after that cabinets will be ripped out and installed, as well as the new sink and dishwasher.  I'll probably be without a sink for 2 - 3 days, something I'm going to have to live with.

One of the men in my graduating class passed away and one of the women who runs the class reunions wanted to post his death notice on Facebook, however she doesn't know what she's doing.  Instead of a formal notice, she posted it on a Happy Birthday card, and then rather than delete it and try again, she just apologized for her mistake.  Can you hear me laughing?  

In case ;you didn't hear, Mark Meadows got bad news yesterday.  He' can't take his Georgia racketeering trial to Federal Court in order to use the excuse "I was only doing my job."  Is it just me, or does it seem as though last week was a good one for Democracy?  And then there was this... Kari Lake getting steamrolled by Piers Morgan of all people.

Bombs

 I hope everybody had a nice, relaxing Christmas, that everybody stayed safe and warm inside their homes as frigid cold from Canada bombed America.  We did have single digit temps here on Saturday, the 24th, but no snow.  Yesterday things began to warm up, temps climbed into the low 20s (F).  Today they're predicted to reach 30 (F), and by Wednesday we should be a balmy 52 (F).

Here in Central Pa, Christmas day was quiet.  There was ham, corn, and mashed potatoes... lots of ham, that will be eaten as sandwiches and turned into ham salad.  Some will be frozen.  The dogs will have the juicy fat served up to them with their dinners this evening.

Oh, and Biggie and Lilly got cake and ice cream.  The dainty, lady Lily took her time, licking her ice cream the way you do an ice cream cone.  Biggie, who's head is the size of a personal watermelon, swallows things whole.  For him, it's not about the taste, it's about the consumption.

I watched Glass Onion, a Knives Out mystery on Netflix.  It was only released into around 700 theaters back in November, and only for a week or so before Netflix pulled it.  Reviews were middling.  I didn't like it.  Not one bit.  This was more of a bomb than a hit.  In Knives Out, Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) ask questions to solve the mystery, in Glass Onion rather than deduce, he makes statements; he tells the audience what they saw using different camera angles.  By the time the ending comes along, he is no longer the star of the movie, that honor goes to Janelle Monae.  I don't know about you, but I like it when my mysteries have a brain.

Besides Trumps ranting and ravings about the stolen 2020 election, other thing making the news this past holiday weekend, was Texas' governor Abbott sending bus loads of immigrants to Kamala Harris' home in Washington.  You don't need to excuse my lack of political correctness, but Greg Abbott is truly a cripple, both physically, and emotionally, and politically.  He shits on human beings in order to win approval from the MAGA Republican base.  There was so much outrage on social media, people quoting scripture, as though their words were going to punish Abbott.  They didn't.  Abbott doesn't care what Jesus thinks.  Abbott cares about Abbott.  In case you haven't realized it yet, he's running against DeSantis for president in 2024.

Oh, and Kari Lake lost her case in Arizona.  The judge actually told her, "you lost."  Of course, Lake has vowed to appeal because that's what her lord and savior Donald Trump would do.

Bibi's good, Sinema's bad

 Hello Saturday!  We're having another sunny day that's going to be on the coolish side.  Temps are predicted to rise into the low to mid 40s (F), which is fine with me.  I do get to work today.  1 PM to 7 PM.  This is the shift I worked during the pandemic and I liked it.  Being a morning person, everything is pretty much done before noon, so being paid very well to sit at a flooring desk for 6 hours is not bad.

Biggie's appointment has been made for his BIG blood test.  He's scheduled for December 20, and will be there for a full 8 hours.  The last time he was at the Vet that long was when he had his little man jewels removed.  The cost to definitely prove he has Cushing's Disease is $469.  How's that for a bite out of the pocketbook?  Not only will the test give him an idea of which glands have the little tumors, but also indicate what his med dosage will be.  That dog's going to be on more meds than me.

I had chosen a ride through Arcadia, Maine, for my treadmill jaunt yesterday.  It looked like it might be relaxing.  Well, 3.5 minutes into it YouTube popped in commercials that I skipped, and then 4 minutes later there were more commercials I needed to skip through, and again, 3.5 minutes after that there were more commercials.  I shut down the video after 16 minutes because by then there had been 4 sets of commercial breaks.  The problem is some content providers want to monetize their videos and so they allow commercials, and Youtube wants you to pay for a subscription to get out of commercials.  Sorry, but I'm not on Youtube long enough to justify a monthly payment, and there are plenty of content providers who aren't really interested making a pittance from their videos.

This being said, there are a number of people I do follow on YouTube, content providers whose originality stands out, like Dylan Bibi.  He's French, speaks very fast, tends to drink a lot of beer, and is both funny and original.

Evidently Kari Lake has filed a lawsuit against Maricopa county claiming election fraud.  This was to be expected.  Like her lord and savior, Donald Trump, her shrieks and lawsuits will only benefit the Democrats of Arizona.

And, speaking of Arizona, there is still quite a bit of fallout regarding Kristen Sinema.  Most people have come to the conclusion she made the only move she could knowing Democrats were going to primary her out in the next election cycle.  Some think she will not run for re-election, I'm betting that's not going to happen.  Even if she received every independent vote, she'd still need either Republican or Democrat voters to win, and both parties hate her.  There is a theory, however, that I do find attractive and it goes like this:  wanting that 51st seat in the Senate, Biden will offer her an nice ambassadorship, which Sinema will accept.  That would allow Katie Hobbs to replace her with strong minded Democrat.  Sinema is not stupid, but she is totally self-serving.  She will do whatever will benefit her the most.

 

The First 3

 Yesterday was pretty much a kitchen clean-up day.  A lot of attention is being paid to the floor which is vinyl planks over a subfloor of lauan (fiberboard).  Lauan doesn't handle water well.  For those who don't know, this is the same stuff they use in making laminate flooring which handles water quite poorly.  So far, there is no sign of swelling or warping.  Replacing it would be another pain in the ass, added expense.

Since the kitchen is already somewhat torn up, I'm going to ask the electrician how much it would cost to add a couple of outlets.  With coffee makers, and mixers, and toasters, and microwaves, a kitchen needs convenient outlets.  Mine has 2 and only one of those is counter level.

So, I watched the last episode of the Rings of Power last evening.  I was not really surprised by the revelations, but then a long time ago I read through the Silmarillion  upon which much of this series is based.  Things to keep in mind:  these first 8 episodes were only about the Elvan rings, the 5 for the Dwarven kings, and the 9 for man have yet to be forged as does the one to rule them all.  Also, Isildur has not been seen since episode 6 and Durin  was not seen in episode 8; both have major parts to play (that isn't really a spoiler).  Supposedly, season 2 will be out sooner rather than later.

The temps dropped down to 37 (F) last night, not freezing yet.  I managed to snap another pic of my dahlias. 

One of the things I find intriguing about the midterms is the large number of election deniers running for office.  Some of them, like Kari Lake, are relying on The Big Lie to get them as many votes as possible.  Even though it's been proven false over and over again, I wonder if these deniers truly believe it, or are merely using it as a tool to leverage MAGA voters.  The lengths to which some are going make me wonder if they have any idea of what might happen should they push it too far.  Take Doug Mastriano in Pennsylvania with his 40 days of prayer.  This man sees nothing wrong with people dying for God, in fact his doctorate which has been deeply criticized for being based on falsehoods, states this is a good thing.  Does this guy really want a religious war in Pennsylvania?  There are so many out there who are fanning the flames without even considering what the terrible consequences would be if people start taking up arms.

The Birthday Present

 Well, here we are on a bright, cool Sunday morning.  The temps outside are a comfy 40 (F).  They were supposed to drop into the mid 30s last night, I don't think they got that low.  No frost hiding in the shadows.  

My neighbor and her daughter were down yesterday.  I thought Amy lived in NY, actually she and her family live in the Poconos.  They both gave me hugs, possibly because not once did I call the police Mike.  As Amy said, her father was a seriously ill, Bipolar Alcoholic.  The house has been sold, closing in on Wednesday.  The new owner is going to renovate and rent it out.  Karen said she thinks he might be Spanish, but in this area it's more probable that he's Indian.  The influx of Indians and Pakistanis into the area is amazing.  Who know, I might become Hindi.

The patch is coming along well.  The plumbers relocated the drain pipe so simply filling in the hole with a piece of drywall was not an option; there was no place to anchor the 1" x 2" behind the existing drywall, so the patch is on top.  Pictures when it's finished.

Look what's ready to be mailed out tomorrow!  Note the catchy Santa Claus Any Time stamp!  And, as an incentive to all you Blue voters out there, November 8 is my birthday!  Help make sure I get the present I will cherish for the rest of my life!

And, what about Kari Lake getting kicked out of the audience for a what was to be a pre-recorded political event.  In case none of you have realized it yet, Kari Lake wants to be the Marjorie Taylor (no longer Green), of Arizona.  She is a political stuntress, an ex-anchor who wants to be a political star.  For her, damage is something you control, never avoid.

And (#2), in a speech yesterday, Trump claimed that the January 6 insurrection was the largest crowd he ever had.  The sooner he gets indicted and they shut him up, the better America will be.  Many people are ripe with anticipation.  The DOJ has an unwritten rule that they don't do anything within 60 days of an election.  That means November 9 is open.  I wouldn't mind a birthday present that comes a day late.
