Painted Attack Shed! (patent pending)

I spent this evening painting up my VBCW camouflaged attack shed (the Mk II variety). I have to say I am very pleased with how this turned out. From the air this will obviously look just like granddads shed and be completely ignored by the enemy, who hopefully wont notice the bit of Rolls Royce engine at the front.

I see this as a mobile command centre for the budding VBCW commander, or a highly camouflaged top secret pill box. Obviously the fact that it has to turn sideways to open fire is a slight design flaw, but I'm sure that will be worked out in the Mk III variety. Whats that, oh funding's been pulled, oh well I guess its back to the best of British broadsides then!

Attack Shed!

Those of you who follow my meandering blog will recall that some time ago, September 2011 to be precise, I created a shed like vehicle for VBCW. If you wish to refresh your memory, or didn't see that vehicle here's a handy link Shed Tank .

Got that, great.

Now my problem with the first iteration was that the only wheels I had to hand were from 1:35 scale modelling kits and I forgot to drop the shed down to compensate for that. The result is that despite the pictures my first shed is actually bloody massive, although still sort of works in 28mm.

Anyway it has always bugged the hell out of me because I like the idea, and my paint job, but the oversized look hacked me off something rotten. So I had always planned to remake the shed more to scale but had never gotten around to it. Well I was sitting around this evening and had an old battered diecast on the desk which I decided would be perfect to remake my shed with!

I have built the shed mostly out of balsa and I added a window on the side with window boxes (once painted to be filled with foliage, thus camouflaging the weapon) The bit above the drivers seat will also be filled with foliage like a big window box. But for the moment that is just blue tacked together as I want to undercoat and paint most of it before fitting the bit over the drivers seat.

Entry is at the back and will be a drawbridge style door so I will be adding some little chains or ropes to that to give it a bit more detail.

The best part, the wheels still work so I can literally push it around the table! :)

All in all I am rather happy with how this turned out and now just have to hope and pray that the undercoating and painting process does not bugger it up.

Delivery Truck

I finished a business meeting early today and had some time this evening to paint this up. Its a Lledo diecast (it was originally marked up as an Able delivery lorry I believe) which I have undercoated and repainted to my own design. As some of you may note the van now bares the same name as the small shop I made earlier in the month.

Basically I've painted this up as a delivery van for the pharmacy. I have hand painted the red crosses on the front and back, hence they look a bit ropy. However generally speaking I'm pleased with the results, the sign on the sides was knocked up in Photoshop and glued on.

Supply Wagon

I've been working on this across the last couple of days. Started life as a Lledo "days gone by" truck, I cleaned it up and undercoated it in grey primer before repainting to the above finish. I went with an interwar/early WW2 green/brown paint scheme, and I like the results.

I wanted to use this as a supply truck in my VBCW games (and pulp I suppose) so I have filled the truck bed with various bits from my modelling cupboard. The supplies are from a wide range of manufacturers and scales, I just grabbed anything that looked right.

I'm quite chuffed with how this turned out as I haven't tried painting a diecast before, I  have a couple more of these dicast trucks in the cupboard and a fuel tanker from the same range. All will now be painted up to match I think.

Rural Camouflage

I spent this evening painting and finishing off my VBCW silly. I'm very pleased with the results and think this will serve my forces rather nicely as a perfectly disguised very very lightly armored recon vehicle. Just park up on an allotment or by a hedge row and no one will ever know what lies beneath the cunning "shed" camouflage! :)

I knocked this up yesterday evening when I got back from Glasgow, and painted this up this morning. The picture says it all, just a simple little checkpoint made from a bit of kebab skewer (unused).

That's no shed

I just had to pop up some pictures of this. Now as fellow VBCW fans will be aware the rather madcap world of VBCW inspires madcap creations. Well I have wanted to build something a bit wacky for a while.The idea of an improvised armored car disguised (badly) as a garden shed has been something I've wanted to try.

This turned out a bit bigger (taller) than I was expecting so I will just say its built on the chassis of a tractor, which explains it being quite tall. Its basically a very lightly armored car with a vickers at the front, which looks like a garden shed. Making rural recon easy :)

I'm in Glasgow tomorrow for a job interview so it will probably be Saturday night or Sunday sometime before this is painted. There are some little things still to add, hinges on the back door stuff like that, but generally speaking I'm pretty pleased with my construction.

A little tank

I have spent the last couple of evenings working on this little tank which I picked up at Partizan. This is a Vickers Light Tank kit produced by BEF Miniatures. The kit is resin with some metal parts, namely the tracks, cupola and gun, in addition to the oil cans in the stowage in the back. The kit is really quite nice, with crisp detail and not to much flash. In fact the only flash I had on my kit was one of the track sections, but this only took a few minutes to clear up.

One slight problem with my kit was the exhaust pipe had (for some reason) not been included. Still I managed to scratch build the one in the picture using some bits and pieces I had, and I think it turned out okay. I also scratch built the clamps holding the exhaust pipe on as it didn't look right just hanging there. Again I think something was supposed to come with the kit.

I went for a simple Green and Brown paint job with some transfers scrounged from another kit I had in the cupboard.

All in all a nice little kit which I would recommend to anyone looking for an early WW2 tank, I will certainly be getting another one at some point in the future.

Crazy Quad

I spent yesterday evening painting up this little beauty sculpted by Paul Hicks, and purchased from his new venture "Mutton Chop". The model was great to put together, if a bit fiddly, but this was due to my cack handedness rather than anything else. Painting wise I went for a racing green frame. The driver is painted up in RAF uniform so that he fits in with my Wittering Defence Force. His armband (not fully visible in the pictures) reads "WDV" which stands for Wittering Defence Volunteers, the militia arm of my force.

I added the little flag and pole myself, for no other reason than I thought it would look good. The colours are the modern tactical flashes of the RAF, so not really period but I think it looks fine none the less.

I recommend this model to anyone who fancies painting up something a bit different. I should add the model does not come with a base, and strictly speaking does not need one. However as I will be gaming with this model I was a bit concerned that my cack handed gluing and sticking would not be strong enough and under the rigours of gaming the model might break, hence the base which is an old Victrix stand.

Staff Car

Just finished painting up this Tamiya 1:48 Citroen 11CV which I think looks quite snazzy as a royalist staff car. I couldn't be bothered messing around with transfers for the car's number plate so just chucked some letters and numbers on free hand. Turned out not to badly if I do say so myself. Figure for scale is a Musketeer British officer, looks pretty much bang on scale wise. 



Little Tilly

Having forgotten to procure transportation for my chaps before BG3 I popped into hobby craft and picked up this really quite nice 1:48 Tamiya model of  an Austin Tilly. The quality of the model is tip top, as I would expect from Tamiya and I think despite being 1:48 it scales up quite well with 28mm models.

I decided to paint this model up to accompany my Wittering Defence Force army, but I actually enjoyed building and painting the model so much I think I might get another couple and paint them up. I think I might paint one up for use in desert pulp games and the other as a general civilian truck or something similar.

Either way having noticed how well this scaled up with 28mm models I think I will have to look at the rest of Tamiya's 1:48 range and see what else might fit in with my forces.

Armoured Car

With the Big Game 3 kicking off in a matter of hours I realised I had no transport for my SFF force.

So in the last 3 hours I have cobbled together the above, armoured car, well sort of armoured.. Starting life as a 1.35 scale kubelwagon I squared of the top a bit with some foam board and then slapped a load of corrugated car on to represent metal.

All in all its a satisfactory job, I painted the hull of the car blue so that it looks like it's a civilian car which has been pressed into service. The bit of white on the front wheel is pva glue which hasn't dried yet. It'll do for the moment but in the long run something better is needed.

Shiny Transport

My shiny new transport. I wanted to try something a bit different so I used a can of Ford Midnight Blue car spray paint that I had lying around for the primary colour. Bit experimental but I think it turned out okay. I'm sure the shiny look isn't to every ones tastes but as my army is Mordian themed I thought it was fitting that there transports were shiny as hell.
