Scotland- Highland Folks Museum

We also visited the Highland Folks Museum in Aviemore. It is an open air museum, much like Mini Malaysia in Malacca. It has a reception area (cafe, toilets, gift shop and playground), 1930s folk village and 1700s folk settlement.



In the 1930s, they were mostly farmers. The museum build a school, house, post office, shop, barn and shepherd's house.

In the 1700s they lived in tribes, and every tribe has its own leader (who owns the biggest house). Other members of the tribes live around the leader's house, within stone walls that mark their territory.

The next day we checked out early and started our 8-hour journey home to Manchester. We drove south, this time via Glasgow..(so that Wanma can say to her friends.."den dah poie dah Glasgow..").

Alhamdulillah, we had a very memorable vacation in Scotland and came back in one piece.

Scotland- Loch Ness

The next day we went to Loch Ness, one of many lakes in Scottish Highlands. It is famous for its monster, nick named Nessie, which was first sighted in the 1930s.


This picture (from wikipedia) was taken in 1934. Later t was proved as hoax.

The legend has brought many people here. Many scientist tried to explain the presence of Nessie but now it is regarded as modern-day myth.





Nevertheless, Loch Ness is breathtakingly beautiful, a tiny piece of Heaven on the earth....

Scotland- Nairn

After sightseeing Edinburgh for a few hours, we continued our journey to north of Scotland.



If you look at the map (taken from www.geocities.com), from Edinburgh we drove to Nairn (not shown in map) which is situated roughly between Inverness and Elgin. It is the furthest north of this beautiful world that I've ever been to. I felt quite lucky because during our stay in Nairn, we experienced the summer solstice here (21st June-the longest day of the year for northern hemisphere). Even at 12 midnight, the sky was not dark (remang2 senja je). At 4am the sun was already out again.


Nairn is a small town situated at the coast of Moray Firth. It was a fishing village, now a holiday resort. Moray Firth is famous for dolphin watch, where you can hire small cruises to go to the sea and watch dolphins in the wildlife. But of course, we didn't have the money for that, although I would really love to.

We stayed in a caravan park called Nairn Lochloy Holiday Park. The park is by the seaside with direct access to the beach, and it has a playground, indoor swimming pool, restaurant and a video arcade.












The caravan's interior is small and compact, but all necessities were provided, including a fireplace and fridge/freezer. Even the cooking utensils were complete, from pots and pans to colander. Of course we brought our own pot and utensils, along with rice, canned sardines and Brahim's.






The next day we went to a nearby farm for strawberry picking. Adam was very excited, and he was good at choosing the strawberry. We ended up with almost 2kg of strawberry. The villagers get their groceries here, fresh from the farm.
