Tilt Shift

I’ve stumbled on this technique a couple of times now and I thought I would mention it here. The technique is called Tilt shift. You basically use tilt shift lenses which focus on a single part of the photo and blur the surrounding area to create an optical illusion of miniaturized scenery.

If you don’t have a lens like that (apparently they’re expensive) you can do that with Photoshop. I have selected a few pictures I like but I linked a flickr with plenty more + a tutorial on how to do it on Photoshop.

I tried a bit and it works well, you just need the right picture, some kind of a city landscape. I’ll try on models as well, it will probably be weird.

Ca fait plusieurs fois que je tombe dessus donc je me suis dis que j’allais en parler ici. La technique s’appelle Tilt shift. En gros, il faut utiliser un objectif « Tilt shift » qui se concentre sur une seule partie de la photo et trouble le reste donnant l’impression d’une scène miniaturisée.

Si vous n’avez pas l’objectif (ils sont chers apparemment), on peut faire ca sur Photoshop. J’ai mis le lien d’une série de photos et d’un tutoriel sur Photoshop.

J’ai essayé un peu et ca marche bien, je montrerais mes essais plutard.

Chan Kwok Hung’s buffalos

I was browsing the Sony World Photography awards 2011 winners and thought this picture was absolutely amazing. That is some incredible action shot and won in the sport category. It was taken in West Sumatra of Indonesia, farmers will held the buffalo race at the muddy rice fields and usually after the rice harvested, they believe will be lucky if their buffalo win the race. That’s got to be one the craziest race in the world.
The name of the photographer is Chan Kwok Hung and I couldn’t find massive information on him, just a picture he took last year, about sport again, stunning as well.

Je regardais la galerie des gagnants du concours de photographie Sony 2011 et j’ai trouvé cette photo vraiment fantastique. Un moment d’action incroyable et il a gagné dans la catégorie « sport ». Cette photo a été prise en Indonésie, chaque année les fermiers font une course de buffles dans les champs de riz boueux. Je crois que ca doit être un des événements sportifs les fous qu’il soit.
Le photographe s’appelle Chan Kwok Hung, je n’ai pas réussi à trouver beaucoup d’informations à son sujet, juste une autre photo, sur le sport encore. J’ai mis le lien de la galerie sur le « Telegraph ».

Pulp Art

I really like these, kind of make you think why didn’t I think about doing this?
Photographer Thomas Allen creates art out of dime-store novels, slices out pieces of their illustrated covers, and bends those slivers into three-dimensional action. Then, he carefully lights his subjects and photographs the scenes, dramatizing his work.

J'aime vraiment beaucoup ces photos, tellement simple qu’on se demande pourquoi n'ai-je pas penser pas à faire ca? Photographe Thomas Allen crée a partir de romans de gare, découpe des morceaux de leur couverture, et les réarrange en trois dimensions. Ensuite, il les éclaire méticuleusement et photographie ces dioramas. C'est juste une petite sélection de mes favoris mais vous pouvez en trouver beaucoup plus là-bas.

The Photo-Composites of Jim Kazanjian

I discovered that artist and thought I would share some of his work here. I found his universe of ramshackle buildings, crumbling labyrinths and claustrophobic spaces very inspiring. I’m not sure how he works but these are recomposed photographs rather than shots. This means that all those landscapes are entirely fictitious constructions.
Someone wrote: “None of the images qualify as photographs, yet each piece is entirely photographic” which cannot be put any better. Hope you like him, that’s the links for more information:

J'ai découvert cet artiste et ai pensé que je pourrais partager certains de ses travaux ici. Je trouve son univers de bâtiments délabré, de labyrinthes effondrés et d’espaces claustrophobes très inspirant. Je ne suis pas certain de savoir comment il fonctionne mais ce sont des photos recomposés plutôt que des endroits photographiés. Cela signifie que tous ces paysages sont entièrement fictifs.
Quelqu'un a écrit: "Aucune de ses images ne peut être qualifiée de photographie, pourtant, chaque pièce est entièrement photographique" ce qui ne peut pas être mieux dit.

Stormtrooper RIP

Stumbled on those pictures a while ago, I don’t think that quite unseen new stuff but I really like them. The guy is called Shobrick, I couldn’t find lots of information about him but there are a few website featuring his work:
