vm foundation

Πρίν από λίγες μέρες μάθαμε για την ιδέα των ανθρώπων του Vinyl Microstore, να προχωρήσουν στη δημιουργία ενός "ιδρύματος", υπό το μοντέλο του donation. Το VM αποτέλεσε και αποτελεί, για πάνω από 13 χρόνια, την "εναλλακτική πρόταση" στη μουσική και στην pop κουλτούρα. Υπήρξε δισκάδικο με εισαγωγές μικρών ανεξάρτητων εταιρειών από όλο τον κόσμο. Φιλοξένησε στα ράφια του ενδιαφέροντα ελληνικά και ξένα funzines. Δημιούργησε διαδικτυκό ραδιοφωνικό σταθμό, μέσω του εφάνταστου site του. Κυκλοφόρησε (καλαίσθητες) δουλειές ελλήνων και ξένων μουσικών. Διοργάνωσε πρωτότυπα events, happenings και πολλά πολλά άλλα. Όμως, το κυριότερο αποτέλεσε τόπο συνάντησης, κουβέντας, αισιοδοξίας. Υπήρξε από τα μαγαζία εκείνα, όπου το μεράκι υπερίσχυσε του κέρδους. Απ ότι φαίνεται ένας κύκλος κλείνει.... Walk across the courtyard, towards the library. I can hear the insects buzz and the leaves 'neath my feet... Ramble up the stairwell, into the hall of books... Since we got the interweb these hardly get used. Duck into the men's room... combing thru my hair... When god gave us mirrors he had no idea... Looking for a lesson in the periodicals... There I spy you listening to the AM radio... Karen of the carpenters- singing in the rain... Another lovely victim of the mirror's evil way. It's not like you're not trying, with a pencil in your har To defy the beauty the good lord put in there... Simple little bookworm- buried underneath... Is the sexiest librarian... take off those glasses and let down your hair for me. So I watch you thru the bookcase- imaging a scene: You and I at dinner, spending time, then to sleep. And what then would I say to you- lying there in bed? These words, with a kiss, I would plant in your head: "what is it inside our heads that makes us do the opposite? Makes us do the opposite of what's right for us? Cause everything 'd be great... and everything 'd be good... If everybody gave... like everybody could." Sweetest little bookworm. hidden underneath... Is the sexiest librarian... Take off those glasses and let your hair down for me. Take off those glasses and let your hair down for me. Kisschasy’s second album “Hymns for the Nonbeliever” takes the form of an old bible which was inspired by the album’s title. The band actually briefed the studio with “we want a bible” and Mathematics took it from there.

The cover was actually scanned from an old bible found at a local bookshop. Then touched up with gold foil to make it seem authentic, although it’s hard to see it on the flat jpg. Here’s a photo which shows off the “very expensive” gold foiling.

One interesting thing I found on Amazon is their version of the cover has been scanned by a blind gimp

Seeing these old bibles got me interested in the look and feel of old books. A quick Google image search for “Old Bible” pulls up some interesting photos.

Amnesiac - Radiohead

The “limited edition” was presented in a red hard bound book filled with illustrations by Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke, who went by the pseudonym of “Tchocky”. Stanley has pretty much done all of Radiohead’s covers and is now working on Radiohead’s as yet unfinished 7th studio album. I really dug the fake library card and pocket that holds the CD.

There are numerous references to “F Heit451″ which refers to Ray Bradbury’s book burning sci-fi novel Farenheit 451 which looks to made into a movie in 2009 with Tom Hanks.

Note the spine damage mentioned in the library card isn’t evident on the deluxe edition. It would have been nice if the label could have hired someone to tear each book up but I guess the book was expensive enough to produce.

This packaging won the Grammy for Best Recording Package which was picked up this year by Tool for 10,000 Days.
