Super Bowl Scarves Project

This is the scarf that I'm working on for the Super Scarves project.  The city of Indianapolis is asking volunteers to knit, crochet or weave 8,000 scarves to be given to each volunteer when we host the Superbowl here in Indianapolis in 2012. 

You can make any scarf that is non-team specific.  Footballs on the scarves are fine.  I'm using Cascade 220.  The blue is color number 9457 and the white is number 8505. 

The pattern for this scarf is one that you can commit to memory after a few times across the rows.  It was a free pattern on the inside of a yarn label from another skein of yarn that I bought.

Super Seed Scarf

With size 8 needles, cast on 30.
Row 1:  Slip the first stitch knitwise, k1, p1, k1, p1...repeat until there are 3 stitches left on the needle.  Knit the last three stitches.  Turn.
Row 2:  Slip the first stitch purlwise, p1, k1, p1, k1, repeat until there are 3 stitches left on the needle.  Purl the last three stitches.  Turn. 
Row 3:  Repeat row 1.
Row 4:  Repeat row 2.
Row 5:  Slip the first stitch knitwise.  Knit across.  Turn.
Row 6.  Slip the first stitch purlwise.  Purl across.  Turn.

Repeat these 6 rows until the scarf is 76-100 inches long.

I did rows 5 and 6 (the plain knit and purl rows) in white.  Rows 1-4 are in blue.  I am carrying the white yarn up the side of the scarf so I don't have to cut it after every row and then tie in all of those loose ends. 

You can make your scarf in any combination of the blue and white that you wish.   Last I heard there have been 2,200 scarves turned in so a lot more volunteers and scarves are needed.
