Finished Texture Turkeys and Hot Air Balloons

I have had several emails about the Texture Turkeys, so I am posting directions. First you draw the body and beak on construction paper and cut them out. Draw the turkey's face with oil pastels. Glue him on a large piece of white paper.

We made these thankful pumpkins today. Students wrote thankful sentences about people they are thankful for to give as gifts for Thanksgiving

Our Hot Air Balloons turned out so cute!! Some classes used paint for the balloons, and some used oil pastels.

Texturkeys

Today the 3rd graders used the texture plates to make crayon texture rubbings for their turkey tail feathers. Texture=Turkey=Texturkey

Blow Paint Turkeys 2nd and 3rd Grade

My daughters have been really into blowing paint drips to create beautiful paintings lately. Friday I came up with a fun idea to make turkeys with blow paint feathers.

We started with construction paper to make the turkey and used watered down tempera for the drippy paint. The students could decorate the backgrounds if they finished early. This was a one day project.

Fifth grade is making drippy paint creatures with cool colors, I will post more later. They are turning out quite fabulous like this Eagle landing on a branch!!

Pop Up Turkey Card

I made a template for this project so that we could do it in one day. I am not a fan of templates unless we are time crunched

most of the kids used oil pastels to outline and then smear into the middle for value

first you color and cut out the turkey. Then fold it in half

fold up the little flaps

put glue only on the flaps and line up the fold of the turkey with the fold of the card and stick him in the middle

We used a half of a painted piece of paper for the feathers. We folded them in an accordian fold and cut the top so it was rounded like feathers

Then place the feathers all folded with glue on both ends  inside the card while it is half closed and close the card tight so the feathers stick

then they will fan out when you open it

kids drew the blue willow china around the turkey, with oil pastel and then smudged it with their finger

and GOOBLY EYES!!

some students made their own feathers with white paper, oil pastels, crayons and texture plates. They were SO creative!
