Painted Skaven Forge World Exalted Vermin Lord

So I've finally finished this model. Chopped it off the pillar and built up a different base for it. Took about 7-8 hours to paint from start to finish. Fairly glad with it! Anyway, on to the photos -

So I finished painting this conversion this morning and took some photos. Some better photos will be done once the whole army is complete. Hope you enjoy.

New Skaven BSB

So I've painted up a new BSB for my new Skaven army. The army is slowly coming along. I'm about 20% through a plague claw catapult and have an additional 2 unit fillers, 2 engineers, about 20 stormvermin and a warlord on war litter. The last 21 models haven't been made either. The tournament is May 18-19 so not too long to go!

Anyway here are some pictures of the Skaven BSB.

Painted Skaven Ikit Claw

So I've finished the first model of the new Skaven army for 2013. I must be crazy going for a second Skaven army! So, I'm back from a long time away. I've decided to start a new Skaven army and this time around I have changed the basing, added some different colours and there will be more conversions and unit fillers. I have written some fluff and painted my first model which will be used as a Warlord. I'm still awaiting my mountain of plastic sprues to arrive.

Clan Variskikk

Clan Variskikk specialise in blending dark sorcery and arcane technology. Long been in the shadow of the predominant Clan Skyre, they have made a name for themselves and continue to build and sell to other smaller clans.

The clever Warlock Engineers of Clan Variskikk are ever busy creating experimental new weapons and continually tinkering with previous designs of their deadly arsenal. Event the clans Hell Pit Abomination has been bred with technology, science e and sorcery (and don't forget Warpstone) to create a truly disgusting and terrifying weapon.

Grey Seer Variskikk himself is a powerful sorcerer, able the channel the raw magical energies in the air and use it for destruction. Whilst his clan has expanded in size, so has his wealth. With this he has hordes of slaves at his disposal and will ever enter battle riding atop his Screaming Bell pushed by the finest Stormvermin. As Variskikk's reputation has spread far and wide, he has gained enemies in both the Underempire and above ground. In his later years, Variskikk has grown extremely paranoid and now never leaves the side of his hired swords. Two Assassin mercenaries from Clan Eshin. Many Warlords and Chieftains have tried to overturn Variskikk but have been quickly executed by these elite killers.

Clan Moulder Army List

So I really like the fluff of Clan Moulder. My usual opponent uses Ogres so I've written a 2,400 point uncomped list. I would love to take a Moulder themed army to a tournament but can't fit a decent army under the usual SCGT comp. Guess its just friendly games it gets used.

Anyway here it is -

Throt the Unclean, GENERAL
Warlord, Halberd, Charmed Shield, Talisman of Endurance, Crown of Command. Mounted on a Broodhorror, Rusted Armour.

Chieftain, BSB, Talisman of Preservation, Halbard.
Engineer, Doom Rocket.
Enginner, Brass Orb.
Engineer, Level 1, Dispel Scroll.

31 Giant Rats, 4 Packmasters.
8 Rat Ogres, 3 Packmasters, Skweel Gnawtooth.
50 Slaves, Musician.
50 Slaves, Musician.
5 Giant Rats, Packmaster.
5 Giant Rats, Packmaster.
5 Giant Rats, Packmaster.
2 Rat Ogres, Packmaster.
2 Rat Ogres, Packmaster.
Hell Pit Abomination.
Hell Pit Abomination.

Throt and the BSB go into the Giant Rat unit and bunker proving leadership and the re-rolls. I'm trying out the Rat Ogre darts tonight to see how they fare. Let me know what you think of the list in general.

Queek Headtaker

I've not really had time to update the blog recently so will be upping the content again.

I finished a quick paintjob of Queek for a game on Saturday vs Ogres. I won the game. Both lists were far from optimal as you can imagine having 40 of Queek's Stormvermin.

It took about and hour and a half to get it done and it's just a reversal of the Stormvermin colour scheme. Think it works but I hate having to rank Queek up. It's a pain.

1600 Point 2 Day Tournament

So as I've said before this weekend is the 1600 point tournament. Over the last 2 1/2 days I've been updating 35 Plague Monks, finished 10 more Stormvermin and finished a new Warlord with Fell Blade/Sword of Anti-Heroes (this weekend he will just be a Chieftain) and Skweel Gnawetooth (again just an ordinary Packmaster this weekend. I was hoping to get 9 Gutter Runners done but don't have the time. I got them stripped, rebased and undercoated but won't get round to starting let alone finishing them!

Follow me on twitter @elfordminis for updates this weekend on how I get on during the tournament. Sorry for the bad photos. Taken with my phone!

And an army shot for you of what I'm taking this weekend!

2400 Points vs Ogres

So recently I've not had time to have any games due to real life and painting so I managed to get a game in against one of my friends today. He wanted no restrictions and the points value of 2400. I told him I'm taking a competitive army as I haven't played for ages.

He took a competitive list too with inclusion of a Tyrant rather then Slaughtermaster. He also had 2 units of 2 Mournfang, 2 Ironblasters, Gutstar and some Orge Bulls aswell as characters and Sabretusks.

I took my usual 2x Grey Seer list, 3 Engineers, 3 Slaves blocks, 2 Clanrat units, 3 Rat Darts, Hell Pit, Doomwheel, 2 x Warp Lightning Cannons and 2 units of 6 or 7 Gutter Runners.

He wins first turn and is worried about the Cannons. Hits and wounds the first and only takes a wound. Shoots it down with the second Ironblaster. I stand and shoot vs a Sabretusk with the Gutter Runners and kill it. Get charged by a second. Drawn combat.

My turn my Hell Pit gets a 15" charge into a unit of 2 Mournfang. Doom wheel goes 4". Not much else. Magic doesn't do much. Cannon misfired and Doomwheel killed 3 of my Gutter Runners on other flank. Pass Panic test. I kill one Mournfang and win combat. He rolls Double 1 to stay in the fight.

He brings the rest forward including a charge with the Gutstar (including Tyrant and Bruiser) into the Doomwheel. Other unit of Mournfang fail a charge and go forward 2". Shooting brings down my other cannon. Magic does nothing again. Abomb kills second Mournfang and is now 3-4" away from an Ironblaster. Gutstar destroys Doomwheel and turn to my Clanrats with the expendable Plague Seer.

My turn, my Hell Pit charges his Ironblaster and all other units move accordingly to stop charges and distances. Magic phase I get 12 dice and 1 Warpstone Token still on both Seers. I cast Wither but its dispelled with his dice. He chose not to use the Hell Heart. A roll of 3 would of got my Plague Seer, and a 4 would have got my General. I then cast Skitterleap to put my Brass Orb 1" away from the Tyrant and Gutstar. Also cast Plague with a Power Scroll and take a few wounds on both Gutstar and Bull units. Shooting sees the Brass Orb thrown and hit the Ironguts. Tyrant, Butcher and 5 Ironguts disappear and the game seems mine now. Abomb munches the Ironblaster and over runs into the other one.

After this it was pretty straight forward. Abomb too the other Ironblaster, 2 more Mournfang and got the final kill of the game, the Stubborn BSB. In all I lost 560ish in points and he lost his whole army end of my turn 5.

So in my last 2 games vs Ogres I've tabled them. Still a tough match up. Want to try using my Furnace now and then soon my Screaming Bell. Oh and next time I'll take some photos to show you guys!

1600 List Problems

So I've made another few army lists for the tournament and not sure which I prefer. In list 1 I like the targets, and the Gutter Runners. List 2 could do alot of damage in combat and list 3 is a normal Skaven tournament army. List 4 has the Clanrats changed for the better looking Stormvermin. Again it's 1600 points, no Lords, no duplicate war machines, max 40 in a unit, no Doomrocket.

Ramblings

So today I've done a bit of painting. Not as much as I should have but still got some done. I also put together my Skaven Warlord with Fellblade. Converted from a number of parts I just need to wait until tomorrow to get the green stuff out and tidy the robes up at the back of the model.

1600 point Skaven army for tournament

I've written up a list for an upcoming tournament. 1600 points, no Lords, no duplicate war machines, max 40 in a unit, no Doomrocket.

Here's the list -

Chieftain, GENERAL, halberd.
Chieftain, BSB, shield, Warrior Bane.
Plague Priest, Plague Furnace, Flail, Ironcurse Icon.

38 Stormvermin, Full Command, Storm Banner.
40 Slaves, musician.
40 Slaves, musician.
5 Giant Rats, Packmaster.
5 Giant Rats, Packmaster.

35 Plague Monks, Full Command. Plague Banner.
7 Gutter Runners, Poisoned Attacks, Slings.

Doomwheel.
Warp Lightning Cannon.

I'd like feed back. I've taken the furnace as it I've never used it before and I've just painted it up. The slaves are there to hold stuff up, and got two combat units in the Stormvermin and Monks.

Plague Furance Finished!

So I've completed the Plague Furnace while still working on the Death Guard commission. Photos of these will be coming on Friday.

Originally I wanted to put the Skrolk model on the front, but decided against it. It was painted in 20 seperate pieces. I've gone for a sort of rotting dirty wooden frame while doing rusty metal. This is the first bit of rust and dirt in the army. I'll only be applying this to Pestilance models. I'll be going back to the Plague Monks soon to apply the rust details.

Plague Furnace WIP

So I've made great progress on the Death Guard commission, so late last night I decided to paint some of the Plague Furnace. At the rate I'm going, it will only be a few more days until its finished! There are 20 seperate pieces though!

More Stormvermin

I've completed another 5 Stormvermin. I've worked it out, and I need another 13 painted for a tournament mid June. Easy enough to do. I would like to do another Warlord and maybe a another BSB but I'll see what time I have. For the rest of the week, I need to work on the Death Guard commission. By the weekend, I hope to have all 20 marines done which leaves me the 2 characters to do at the weekend. The following week will be the Possessed and the Dreadnought.

Stormvermin update

I've finished up 10 Stormvermin. I'm not going to post a 'proper' picture until I've finished the other 30 :)

Stormvermin Test Models 2

So here are a few changes done with the feed back from everybody. I'm really liking the black armour and the black glossy blade to highlight they are 'elite' infantry.

Test Stormvermin

Heres my two different test models for the Stormvermin. One has a slightly darker metal then the Clanrats, the other has black armour with chips from it. What do you all prefer?

New Skave List

So after the tournament, I've decided to change my list slightly. Now I know I'm still not the best Skaven General and I know theres better options but I just want to try some stuff out before moving on. I did at first plan on taking a Furnace with the monks, but after painting 40 of those ugly plaxtic monk models, I doubt they will ever find a place in my list now which is a shame as I love the Furnace model its self. Don't get me wrong I'm still going to paint one :)

So heres the list -

Grey Seer, General, Earthing Rod, Talisman of Preservation.
Grey Seer, Power Scroll.

Chieftain, BSB, Halberd, Shield, Dragonhelm, Obsidian Trinket.
Chieftain, Halberd, Skavenbrew.
Engineer, Level 1, Dispel Scroll.
Engineer, Doom Rocket.

34 Stormvermin, Shields, Full Command, Razor Standard.
29 Clanrats, Shields, Full Command, Poisoned Wind Mortar.
28 Clanrats, Shields, Full Command, Poisoned Wind Mortar.
38 SLaves, Musician.
35 SLaves, Musician.
5 Giant Rats, 1 Packmaster.
5 Giant Rats, 1 Packmaster.

10 Gutter Runners, Poisoned Attacks, Slings.

Hell Pit Abomination, Warpstone Spikes.
Warp Lightning Cannon.

After a few months of trying this I'm going to move onto a Seer/Warlord build. I though the Skavenbrew in the Stormvermin could be quite fun and 'Skaven like' and could help them although they still can't go toe to toe with enemy elite choices. First game tonight vs Rob and his Daemons.
